Episode 6x16 / Re: Questions?
« on: June 19, 2010, 09:59:13 PM »
I am just trying to help.

Well, one of the things is this baby business.
If women are not able to conceive and give birth on the island (they can either come pregnant or go away to give birth), what with Ethan?
OK, I understand, that Amy MIGHT have conceived off the island, but there is no indication she did, so this is not the answer I'm looking for.

Was his body used by MiB only? Was it MiB or Jacob who didn't want to give Locke a hand when he was about to move the wheel? Was it MiB or Jacob who set Michael free?

If there was a strict rule about the bodies (implied elsewhere) because MiB could use them, why was the Dharma grave left open? Apart from dramatical purposes.

If you can only move on when you reconnect with significant people in your life, why didn't Sayeed reconnect with Dogan before moving on?

I am disappointed probably because I didn't like Vanilla Sky and the whole ALT idea resembled it too much for me. As much as I am a big sucker for philosophical speculation I would very much prefer the time IMO wasted on the ALT to be used for some more satisfying storytelling. I take it's about 50% of season 6. I understand it's just my personal preference, but this is the way I feel.

ALL THIS MAKES PERFECT SENSE AND NEEDS NO FURTHER EXPLANATION - but just in case you cannot figure ANYTHING out, we will show you at the end of the episode Jack and Kate finding mommy and MIB's bodies...  DUUUHHHH!!!!

I felt the same.
It was like someone poking me and saying "Get it now?!". I mean, people want answers but that doesn't mean they're idiots.

Episode 6x14 / Re: What does this mean for the "new Jacob"?

why didn MiB kill the crap out of him??

Maybe the same reason why MIB can't do that directly to the candidates. Maybe the rule is Smokey can't touch the protector and the candidates.

But don't you think that this man is not alone?
When he says "One of these days we're gonna find a loophole", Jacob answers "When you do, I'll be right here".
So "you" is not "you, the black shirt guy", but "you and those with who you're looking for the loophole".

I think Blitz Wing is right - it's about innocence. Gaining knowledge is a double-bladed sword.

My husband and I were talking the other day that (not only with all the biblical references) LOST is a lot like the Bible, when supernatural things happened to people almost everyday. Moreover you really have to read the whole Bible to know what it's all about... which on the other hand is not a big deal since you can say that about every book :/
Anyway, the "SF factor" of the Bible is not the point. Just like the super powers of the island are not the point.

And I just realised that what I like about the show is the idea to create a whole story. I like the fact that LOST is more like say Twin Peaks than CSI for instance.

But I feel your pain.

Erikson chose to be very enigmatic so we can only guess. My guess is that that's how his thinking goes:

1. Smokey impresonates people and is black
2. Jacob's nemesis impersonates people and wears a black shirt
3. Smokey is Jacob's nemesis.
4. Jacob can't be worse and has to have his own monster, who in turn is white since Jacob wears white shirt.

If my husband wasn't just throwing in some comments about white bears I would have been able to sum it all up.

That's why Kate (and it annoys me that people are so mad at her now) was saying to Jack that "it wasn't all misery."

Ah, you see I also have a problem with Kate but that's because she's a bit... dishonest. We saw her building a relationship with Jack but only recently have we found out that her heart was broken by Sawyer. Then she breaks up with Jack but still comes for a mercy f&*% just to dismiss him on the plane because now her bet is on Sawyer. Unfortunately Sawyer is not available and doesn't even seem interested, so she tries her luck with Jack again. But to her horror and fury (hence slamming the door) she finds out she doesn't have power over Jack anymore. She constantly keeps skipping between Jack and Sawyer only this time none of them wants to be her beau and she gets pissed and tries emotional blackmail too often.

While in previous seasons she had a bit of innocence about her, now she's just pretentious.

Step 3. Realize you do not have the specialized equipment, firing mechanism, firing sequence or training-check

I guess this is where Sayid, jack-of-all-trades, comes in handy. To some extent.

I was really admiring Jack for how he learnt to step back, hold on and take things easier. The moment he decided to take Faraday to the Others was when he first lost it, but in this episode he's a full blown old Jack again. Taking the first available task as you great CAUSE and acting on impulses really. And of course he is going to fail because if he doesn't John Locke never becomes who he is now.

I just wish Jack would wait for his moment of revelation. And now I'm just affraid he's going to be weepy-little-Jack-standing-up-for-others-and-not-being-appreciated-by-daddy forever. That is if he survives at all.

And while I never liked John Locke, I must admit I'm hugely impressed. I keep thinking about how he plays Ben, how he unnerves him and how he doesn't fall for the usual traps. And it's so refreshing! Because John doesn't seem to manipulate people purely for he's own amusement, like Ben used to do. We are being hinted that John is willing to discard people like Ben (lying to Sun, using the herd of the Others) and yet I must admit that I still trust him :/ It's like he knew that first thing should go first and he doesn't get distracted. And at the same time he's not arrogant about it like he used to be.

And I'm probably a bit late on that one, but when Sun came forward with the picture, I had to pause to scream "Waaaaaalt!!!"

There you are. Not a lot for discussion, just wanted to get it off my chest.

Note to self: secure a bonus for every time the character's face gets battered in the next season contract.

Episode 5x14 / How did Daniel know so much?
« on: May 01, 2009, 08:24:05 AM »
One thing I can't understand is how could Daniel possibly know so much about the events on the island? Especially about the fact that Des failed to press the button and that made the plane crash.

I don't recall Des or John telling the story to Daniel or anyone else, but I must admit memory doesn't serve too well lately. Of course the conversation could have happened off screen... like it hardly ever happens in that show.

Even if the journal is Dan's memory, who put that event into it? Who could have known?
Well, someone watching Des on a camera could have known but why would they inform Eloise or Charles Widmore, who both sent Dan with the ship.

Sorry if it was discussed somewhere else.
