Cool, any pictures to help me get my head around this?

Episode 4x05 / Re: They Can Change the Future...

All stories begin and end in faith, in some form or another (faith can have a secular meaning), were it with out the human aspect, it would be as boring as watching them reading a manual
for a Cray XT4.

Seems more like Fate to me. With Course corrections making our attempts at free-will moot.

I think definitely Michael but he is NOT Ben's man, Miles is.

This is great stuff, unfortunately it is isolated to Desmond. Back during Flashes they said they would never do it again then recently recanted and said they'd do it one more time only (The Constant). It is full of paradoxes but if we ignore them and take it at face value there is still no reason to think this applies to anyone else (except possibly people with the 'sickness')

LOST Talk / Re: predict the ending (NO SPOILER)
« on: February 13, 2008, 10:20:20 PM »
If this is the age old battle between light and dark then the ending will be the prelude to the Armageddon battle. Two sides gathering on the plains for the war to end all wars. But... somebody (Hurley?) will transcend the division and diffuse the situation.

What's the deal with the frame on that boys photo? It's changed when Miles comes back down!

Episode 4x02 / Re: Desmond/Ben/Naomi triangle
« on: February 12, 2008, 09:09:03 PM »
This was my thought to at the time as it makes sense and seems logical. But now that theories are connecting Abaddon is being linked to Smokey I'm rethinking it. Now we are talking about someone for whom aquisition or even duplication of that picture may be quite easy.

It also seems odd that Naomi's cover story is not the same cover story that the freighter 4 used.

Episode 4x02 / Re: A Man on Their Boat
« on: February 12, 2008, 08:57:50 PM »
I'm thinking that when Miles called and Minkowski 'couldn't come to the phone' that something was up. I'm thinking that Ben's man was at work taking over the boat perhaps. Naomi and her crew are gone so in theory the boat is minimally staffed at this point.

Just like Naomi's seemingly bizarre phone dialog before this was another one like it but this time Miles wasn't speaking in code (Don't talk about your sister!) Seemed more like the person on the other end was under duress this time.

Episode 4x02 / TalkShoe
« on: February 12, 2008, 07:24:39 PM »
Once again, Dan & I are forced to do our show LIVE on TalkShoe. I'll open the room around 9 tonight and once we're settled in start recording. Just FYI as I like to keep these calls open to the public even though we aren't looking for callers.

If we only get eight, then it's just a mini series, not a season.  They need to mobilize and get to work.  I'm glad we're seeing new stuff, but I'm feeling ripped off.

Sure but don't forget DVD's, they'll want a full season to sell.

Spoiler Theories and Speculation / Re: Light vs Dark

...or are they vacillating between those states? Lock with faith, locke loses faith, locke regains fate. Some never vacilate and other maybe just once that we've seen so far.

Taking your third point, Maybe jacob is able to 'project' himself anywhere on the Island in any form (Yemi, Christian, Horse etc) whereas Walt is only able to project himself as Walt.
Maybe Walt hasn't yet got the power to appear as someone else yet?

This is probably why the Others think Walt is special amongst other reasons.

But special in a scary in a get-him-off-the-island way!

i agree with you curt, but i want to add that even our Christian God can get angry.  He is not a passive God.

well there you have it, I just flaunted my ignorance in front of god and everyone!

Season 4 / Re: Central Theme
« on: February 12, 2008, 11:47:50 AM »
Well... I'm going with the idea that 'everyone is there for a reason'

I just updated the thread on Smokey (or something in the theories forum) with a broader outline of the underlying theme for the show bt in essence we have two sides in a struggle. Each side has been recruiting people to come to it's/their aid so everyone on that plane, everyone on every boat and balloon that has ever come was brought there by one side or the other to do their bidding. even the Ben's man on the freighter is a real good example of how each side has been able to undermine the others efforts. The switching up of the pilot, and I am sure that out losties, fuselage and tailies both had agents for both sides all unwittingly, and inexorably brought to the point where they were on that flight.

Each persons role varies, it may be big and it may be small but when you think of all of the little things that happened to get to this point then you realize that nothing is small, it's all important.

A couple of things...

Just because we equate Jacob with Gods doesn't mean he can't get angry. A very common theme in every mythology and even some modern religions. Don't interpret God to our Christian God as a benevolent and kind god, think more along the lines of the Titans from Greek culture.

Smokey has been there since the dawn of time and essentially has Jacob captive (just like Mittlework had Hanso in TLE). For what ever reeason they cannot destroy each other directly but have to rely on influencing humans to do their bidding, again very common in mythologies. So both sides continue to bring people to the island in an attempt to get them to d their dirty work.

But here is the rub, there is no good side or bad side. Neither side can win since their war is Armageddon. Which in ancient times meant 'the plains of gathering' where armies will gather, in the end of times, for 'the war that ends all wars'.

So whether you picked Jack or Locke doesn't matter, what matters is that neither side get the upper hand and accomplish the goal of their particular puppet master.
