In the closing hours of LOST, I would just like to thank all of you for having insane and unrealistic discussions with me. This has truly been a journey and I'm glad we all made it together. I wish you all well.  Thank you.

Don't know what the hell I'm going to do with a History degree in this economy. I guess go back to school? I'll just be a professional student and collect degrees.

Pretty pretty, Mrs A!  Beauty to go with the brains. :)
I'd trade a bit of brains for a bit more beauty...but it would have to be stuff like my old HS locker combination, or listing the presidents of the U.S., or all the crappy movies I ever saw... y'know.
Don't we all. lol  I'd gladly give up all the Vanilla Ice lyrics stored in here for an aesthetic improvement.  :D

ROFL! That's what I'm talking about, Mrs G!! Oh goodness, now I have Vanilla Ice stuck in my head!
SorrEEE ;D

Isn't she the cutest?

She is so cute, and talented. Very charming!

Episode 5x16 / Re: Timeline deviation?
« on: May 15, 2009, 05:57:14 PM »
This is my first post, and it's just my thoughts about the finale, specifically concerning free will versus fate. I'd originally bought Faraday's explanation that "whatever happened, happened" and Miles' explanation to Hurley about everything being set in stone. This seemed to be additionally reinforced by the fact that Sun found their photograph in the DHARMA processing station, since it stands to reason that this photograph is a "consequence" of Jack, Kate and Hurley time traveling, so further "consequences" would have already manifest in 2007, i.e. Sun's present timeline. I agreed with Miles that Jack would probably be causing the Incident, rather than doing anything to change the past.

However, it seemed to me that the Incident would have occurred regardless of Jack dropping the thermonuclear device into the pit. While it's true that the Incident began shortly after Jack dropped the device, the drill had already tapped into the pocket of energy and Chang couldn't turn it off because the electromagnetism was pulling it down. I thought that when Juliet saw the device in the cavity next to her that it was confirmation that the device did not cause the Incident since it hadn't detonated yet, and that when she subsequently detonated the device it was analogous to Desmond "blowing the dam" in 2004, except this time taking place in 1977, thus effecting a large change in the past as Faraday theorized would presumably be too large for "course correction".

I think it remains to be seen how precisely the timeline will change due to the pocket of electromagnetic energy being wiped out, eliminating the construction of the Swan station. Ajira 316 crashed on the island despite any known cause, so this could still happen to Oceanic 815. Likewise, Desmond washed ashore onto the island for reasons unrelated to the Swan, but what happens to him after he arrives would be different. "Locke" also pointed out that the Swan station was where he and Ben first met; this wouldn't happen, at least in the Swan station.

wjang-I did interpret the white light to be the bomb exploding. Don't know why you wouldn't?

Barringer- I am supposing that the implosion of the Swan and the explosion of Jughead do "neutralize" each other. The events you mentioned do still happen if the Island is still there and there is still an electro-magnetic anomoly. Without this basic premise, TPTB are at risk of losing the entire 6th season and the show has little basis. Maybe the H-bomb triggers a 'reset' of the Valenzetti equation that was put into effect during the cold war and the days of mutually assured destruction. If it resets, when do they reset to? Jack waking up on the Island. I think we all hope not! Didn't that already happen at least once?
