TV & Movies / Super 8

So I went to see J.J. Abrams' new movie out now...  Super 8

The alien in the movie makes Smoke Monster noises.  Kinda cool to hear that again.  Just thought you ought to know.  LOL.

Let's make a list and keep adding...  Other than the obvious one of what the heck are Jacob and MIB playing at...

1.  Who are/were Adam and Eve?
2.  What was the Hurley-bird?
3.  What was up with the whole fertility problem on the island?
4.  Who built the Tawaret statue and why?
5.  What is up with Vincent?
6.  Was Christian always MIB or was he sometimes Jacob?  (white/black shoes...)
7.  Was alt-Anthony Cooper the con man who caused the death of Sawyer's parents?
8.  What does Widmore want?  What does Eleanor Hawking want?

Episode 6x04 / Claire's "branding"...
« on: February 24, 2010, 03:00:26 PM »
Claire said "They branded me."  But it looked like Sayid's poker-burn to me.  So the Others really did test her too, apparently, to see if she was infected.  Don't know if there's anything discussion-worthy here, but it was just something I noticed and I don't see it being talked about anywhere...

Episode 6x03 / "They're coming..."
« on: February 18, 2010, 01:48:09 PM »
OK, this is going back to last season, and there was a thread about it then, but in light of what we're seeing now...

What did Jacob mean when he said that?  Who's "they"?  Seems like he should've said "He's coming..." doesn't it?  (Meaning the MIB...)

OK, so as soon as the Temple Others were told that Jacob is dead, panic ensues.  They send up a flare, sprinkle magic ash all around, post guards -- in general they circle the wagons and set up defenses.  Aldo told Kate they were guarding against the ticka-ticka smoke monster.  But that would be an "it" or a "he" wouldn't it?  Who's the "they"?

Is it Sawyer and MIB?  Was Jacob anticipating that MIB would start recruiting, like Ilana said?  Or could the "they" be "the candidates"?

Episode 6x01 / What were the whispers saying in the Temple?

Spoiler Theories and Speculation / How the Statue falls...
« on: May 10, 2009, 01:31:09 AM »
OK, here's another "TV Guide" tidbit, from the May 11-17 issue, in an article written by William Keck:

Now their (Ben's and Locke's) feuding reaches a climax in Lost's last-ever season cliffhanger, as Ben is forced, at Locke's request, to make a sacrifice so monumental that "it lands on Ben like a rock and cuts him to the core," says Michael Emerson.

Now, if I understand correctly, Keck gets to preview episodes, right?  So he may've seen this already?  Does anybody besides me think Keck and Emerson are slyly, silently screaming to us that the Statue is going to fall over on top of Ben and smoosh him?  Look at the word choices -- "monumental"... "like a rock"... "cuts to the core."

So therefore "What lies in the shadow of the Statue?" could possibly be the body of Ben Linus...

I know... I know.  He's too major of a character to be gone before the last season.  I think so too.  But, wow, this could be a fun cliffhanger!

The article finishes up with Emerson saying "I'm in a scene that you'll want to see the next beat of.  Something is left hanging.  The audience is going to be left wondering who will be on this program next season."

"That's a good tease," says Cuse, commending Emerson as "a very well-spoken actor."  To which Lindelof adds (facetiously -- we think), "Who must now be killed."

Maybe Ben is the "something left hanging" -- literally.  Maybe he'll be dangling off the side of the Statue when it topples over and we won't know if it smooshes him or not?

Or maybe the Statue won't fall yet at all -- who knows?  But there is definitely going to be something going on about the Statue in the final episode, because last week's "TV Guide" had TPTB telling us that we're finally going to see the face of the Statue in the finale.  This is going to be soooo fun...

Episode 5x15 / Best Lines of the Night
« on: May 06, 2009, 11:16:10 PM »
No line.  Just the whole scene with Dr. Chang asking Hurley when he was born and who was president.  Laughed my heiney off!

TV Guide this week had a snippet article about the Statue:

Lost fans will see the last angle of the ancient, Goliath four-toed statue on the two-hour May 13 season finale.  "You've seen its foot.  You've seen its back," says exec producer Damon Lindelof.  Now at long last, the face will be revealed.  Michael Emerson, who plays Benjamin Linus, hopped on the computer and did some research of  his own after he realized that the same figure is represented on wall carvings in the island's underground temple.  "She's Taweret, the goddess of childbirth," concludes Michael, referencing the pregnant, hippo-headed Egyptian deity.  "That dovetails in pretty well with our themes, wouldn't you say?" says Michael, who also discovered that whom Taweret mates with, and when, is of great relevance.

So... I'm not sure if this is a spoiler or not, because I'm not sure if Emerson really knows anything or if this is just "I, Michael Emerson, who knows nothing more than all the rest of you Joes out there, am of the considered opinion that the statue is Taweret."  So for what it's worth... there you go.
