Ben: I'm a Pisces

Episode 5x14 / Would the Losties want to change the future?
« on: April 30, 2009, 01:03:58 PM »
If they change to Flight 815 not crashing on the island, then they all would never meet and become friends.  Jack won't have Kate; Sawyer won't have Juliet.  Kate would not have all those years with Aaron.  Charlie and Claire will never have loved.  Maybe they won't want to chage that.  We give up the good in our lives if we give up the bad.  Oh, and Kate would still be in jail.  Sawyer would still be scamming instead of channeling his inner hero.  Sun would want to excape Jin.  Charlie still be on drugs.  Rose have cancer.  Locke be in a wheelchair.  Would they want that?

OO the other hand, maybe the future would try to course correct and bring them to their destineis in another way.

Episode 5x13 / What are the connections of characters to the island?
« on: April 16, 2009, 07:07:53 PM »
Charlotte, Aaron, Miles, and maybe Daniel were born there.  Jack's family seems to have some sort of connection, because so many of them have ended up on the island. Jack's father and sister are both hiding out in Jacob's cabin and running messages for the island.  Gramps Shepard seems to have a connection , too.  Claire was the only person in some time to have a successful birth on the island.

Locke was tested by Richard, and seems to have passed some initiation rite by causing his father's death.  Locke's father (?) was also the man who started Sawyer on his life of crime.

Ben arrived on the island as a preteen, and seems to have passed the same initiation as Locke; he killed his own father (what's up with that!).
HUrley is connected through the numbers.

Penny, of course, is the daughter of Widmore, who was once a leader of the Others.  Desmond arrived at the island while in a sailing race, which he hped would help convince Penny's dad that Des  would be a good son-in-law.
Eko landed on the same island his dead brother did.
Anyone else?

Episode 5x12 / What is the real purpose of the DI?
« on: April 11, 2009, 07:03:14 PM »
The DI strikes me as having two separate agendas.  There are the "pure" scientists, who seem only to want to learn, and there seem to be to be other  DIs who have a different agenda: Radinsky, Horace, the torturer dude.
Some of the DI seem to really believe the whole "namaste" ideal.  they truly want to make the world a better place and are looking for ways to harness the energy on the island for good.  They believe that everyone is equal and no job is more prestigious than any other, as long as you contribute positively.

then there are people like Horace.  He seems to look down on people whom he does not consider to be his intellectual equals.  He sort of sneers at Ben's dad and at Jack in their custodial positions.  Or he tells people there is not a place for them in DI, insinuating that they are too stupid.

As with any technological or scientific advance, there are those who want to use it tom gain power, wealth, and/or prestige.
Perhaps the Others accepted DHARMA when they thought the DI was a peaceful quest for knowledge, but changed their minds when some Di thought to seize the island's powers.
Sorry if this was already discussed.  I have not come across it.

Episode 5x12 / Ben and children
« on: April 10, 2009, 02:43:33 PM »
What does everyone think of the pattern with Ben having a soft spot for kids?  He protected Alex, in a way, and even refused to kill her mother, although that may have been more to challenge Widmore than for any other reason.  Rousseau did not seem to be a danger to Alex, so why did Ben kidnap her?  To annoy Widmore?  Then he aborts his mission to kill Penny when he hears Charlie crying.  He also caused the Lostie childrren to be kidnapped (including Walt).  Why?  WE still have not really found out why he took the Lostie kids.  WE still don't have any answers about what happened to Walt while he was with the Others.

We know Ben is concerned about women not being able to have children on the island.  How does this tie in with all the kdinapping?  When Ben was Benlet, women could still successfully carry and give birth!  What changed?  Is it a judgment by Smokey on the sins of Ben?

Any ideas?

Theories & Speculation / When will we find out more about the Temple?
« on: March 31, 2009, 12:08:04 PM »
Is the temple a temple to Anubis and/or Osiris?  To the Egyptian pantheon?  How did they create Smokey to protect it?  Does it have anything to do with reincarnation?  Was it destroyed when the Incident occured?  The same time as the statue was destro
My theory is that the incident destroyed the statue and dmaged the Temple, letting loose the guardian of the temple.  Smokey once was tied to the temple, but the damage allowed him freedom of the island.

Theories & Speculation / What about the Shepard family?
« on: March 21, 2009, 06:24:08 PM »
I didn't think much of it in the beginning, but Jack's family seems to have some sort of connection to the island,  He is apparently an important "player."  His father, Christian, also has been popping up, reaqnimated, not just on-island, but back in the US.  Christian has interacted with more than just Jack.  He met Sawyer in Australia, and has appeared to Sun, Claire, and Locke.  Claire has either reanimated or just left her baby and wandered off, and is hanging out with daddy Christian.  Aaron, the newest young Shepard, seems to be of some importance, and is the only baby bo0rn oin the isoland in quite some time.  Is it a coinky dink that he is a Shepard on his mother's side ?
Also, Grandpa Shepard is always trying to leave the nursing home where he lives and trying to find some place unnamed.  The island?
Now look at the the implications of the name "Shepard."  According to▸ noun:  astronaut who made the first United States' suborbital rocket-powered flight in 1961 (1923-1998)
▸ noun:  United States author of surrealistic allegorical plays (born in 1943)
▸ name:  A surname (common: 1 in 6666 families; popularity rank in the U.S.: #778)

Okay. but it soundslike, and p-robably comes from the word shepherd:▸ noun:  a clergyman who watches over a group of people
▸ noun:  a herder of sheep (on an open range); someone who keeps the sheep together in a flock
▸ verb:  tend as a shepherd, as of sheep or goats
▸ verb:  watch over like a shepherd, as a teacher of her pupils
▸ name:  A surname (common: 1 in 4761 families; popularity rank in the U.S.: #569)

Does the shepard family act as some sort of guardians for the island?  Were they "Others?"  Is there more to Jack's mom than we know?

Episode 5x08 / Roman or Egyptian
« on: March 09, 2009, 06:55:20 PM »
So, with all the Egyptian references going on, howcomes the Others speak Latin?  Of course, the Romans did have connections in Egypt, but that would have been after Atlantis.

Is it that various groups have visited the island and been assimilated?

Episode 5x07 / SAyid's shirt

Does anyone else think the shirt's logo and sentiment seem very DHARMAish?
