Death
How the islanders deal with death reflects how they deal with life, also. See also Rebirth / Reincarnation ("The Next Life").
From "White Rabbit":
Jack: "But if we can't live together, we're going to die alone."
From "Confidence Man":
Man in Pool Hall: "Tell me Sawyer, do you want to die? Because when a man walks in my place and tells me he left a 160,000 of my hard won dollars in the care of a civilian I've got to ask myself if what I'm hearing isn't the desperate cry for the sweet release of death."
From "Outlaws":
Sawyer: "But we're in hell, huh?"
Christian Shepherd: "Don't let the air conditioning fool you, son. You are here, too. You are suffering."
From "Exodus":
Sawyer: "My daddy never got a chance to beat me. He shot himself when I was 8."
Michael: "Is that why you want to die, man?"
Sawyer: "What?"
Michael: "Since the day you told me you wanted on this raft, I couldn't figure it out. Why does a guy who only cares about himself want to risk his life to save everyone else? The way I see it, there's only 2 choices -- you're either a hero or you want to die."
Sawyer: "Well, I ain't no hero, Mike."
From "Man of Faith, Man of Science":
Hurley: "4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42. 4, 8, we're dead, 15, doomed and dead, 16, 23, 42..."
Hurley (refering to hatch): "Great idea, dude, go look into the burning death hole."
From "Collision":
Ana-Lucia: "All I remember was a pop. By the time I hit the ground I thought I was dead. I feel dead... Go ahead, I deserve it"
Sayid: "What good it would be to kill you if we're both already dead?"
From "The 23rd Psalm":
Mr. Eko: "...Yea, though I walk through the shadow of the valley of death, I fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod, thy staff they comfort me..."
From "One of Them":
Sayid to Henry: "You would remember! You would remember how deep. You would remember every shovelful, every moment. You would remember what it felt like to place her body inside. You would remember if you buried the woman you loved. You would remember -- if it were true!"
Some of the Egyptian heiroglyphics at the end of the countdown clock have to do with death.
From "The Whole Truth":
FakeHenry: "Men reject their prophets and slay them, but they love their martyrs and honor those whom they have slain. [to Jack] So what's the difference between a martyr and a prophet?"
Jack: "Either way, it sounds like you end up dead."
From "Lockdown":
Helen: "Don't knock the obits -- the nicest part of the paper. No one ever says anything mean about people once they're dead."
From "?," Richard Malkin's daughter was believed by her mother to have been revived after passing away. She tells Eko in the airport that she saw Yemi in "the in between place."
"Cerberus" is written on the blast door map--the Greek 3-headed dog that guards the underworld and prevents the dead from going back into the world of the living. Also, in Latin: "Liberte te ex inferis" ("Save yourself from Hell.")
