The Scavenger Hunt

THE HUNT BEGINS EVERY WEDNESDAY AT 8PM EST.

THE HUNT is a scavenger game hosted on this site. Each week, you will have to use a series of LOST-related clues to find information in the real world and on the internet. By putting the pieces of the puzzle together, you will find the solution to the weekly hunt. The first 10 people to enter a correct answer on this page each week will receive points (10pts for 1st, 9 pts for 2nd, and 8pts for 3rd, etc). Whoever has the most points at the end of the game will receive a Season 1 LOST-DVD set (possibly an autographed set).

RULES (Anyone who breaks these rules will be suspended from THE HUNT):
1) You cannot share information with other contestants
2) You must provide your email address each week when you enter your solution, this email address will be used to track your points (but not given to anyone)
3) You will be tracked by IP
4) You can only use one email address - anyone caught playing with multiple accounts will be banned
5) You can only submit one answer each week
6) Solutions will be posted each week for the previous HUNT. Study the solutions to help you do better on future HUNTS.

INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS:
You are welcome to play, but, you may have to help with the cost of shipping if you win. Also, the DVD format will likely be NTSC. If you require a different format, I will try to accomodate, but there are no guarantees.

PREPARE YOURSELF! To do well in THE HUNT, you'll need to know your LOST facts. The more you know, the better. Use this site, and others as resources. You're best friend in THE HUNT will be the GOOGLE BAR at the top of every page on this site.

WEEK 1 SOLUTION

1) The first hint, which is also intentionally made to be misleading, is the 'DaVinci's Code' written at the top. This is not a reference to the book "The DaVinci Code", but rather, the code DaVinci often used in his journals in which he wrote upside down and mirrored. This clue was simply pointing out that the text is upside down and mirrored.

2) Once you can read the text (either by flipping back to normal in an image editing program, or printing out and holding upside down in a mirror, or by letting your brain flip it around) you see there are four sections to the puzzle labeled A B C and D.

A) "I know it got JL (John Locke) in the leg, put MD (Michael Dawson) in the hospital, and interupted KA (Kate Austin's) escape!! But, I don't know what MAKE it is?!" There is also a picture of a car next to this clue, and the car is pointing towards the word MAKE. The three characters were all hit by the same make and model of car, a Pontiac Bonneville. The answer to part A is PONTIAC. To figure this out, you would have needed to search some LOST sites for information about a CAR and ACCIDENTS.

B) "If I knew (A) I could Locate the nearest dealer to GL-12". There is a drawing by this clue of the PONTIAC symbol, with ".com" underneath, referring you to PONTIAC.COM. If you google "GL-12 LOST" you will actually find a link to this site, and you'll discover that GL-12 was Locke's strategy/war game playing partner at work. We know Locke worked in Tustin, CA. So, it's likely GL-12 lived in Tustin as well. To locate the dealer closest to GL-12, you need to find the zip code for Tustin. There are three zip codes. You can enter any of them into the DEALER LOCATER on PONTIAC.COM, and the same dealership will always return as the closest.

C) "The +4 Zip(B) corresponds to a verse in the book of Rose's faith". The +4 zip refers to the four digits after a standard 5-digit zip code. The +4 zip, 8406, from the closest dealer in part B corresponds to a verse in the book of Rose's faith. There is an assumption that Rose is Christian based on her prayer for Charlie ("Heavenly father..."). This is reinforced by the drawing of the book with a cross on it. And a clue as to how to use the numbers, "B-C-V V", or BOOK(1)-CHAPTER(1)-VERSE(2). In a standard Christian Bible (not Catholic), the numbers can only be used one way. The book is 8, which is Ruth (note, there is no 84th book, so it had to be the 8th book). The chapter is 4 (there is no 40th chapter). And the verse is 06, which talks about REDEEMING or REDEMPTION. This was the hardest part because there are different versions/translations/etc.

D) "The right of ?(C) +song Reminds me of Fords RAFIOT TUNE. I need the lyrics to find the SECOND WORD" In this part, you are to take the answer from (C) and combine it with SONG (+song), which gives you REDEMPTION SONG (or something close to it). This reminds us of Ford's (Sawyer) Rafiot Tune, or boat tune... which was REDEMPTION SONG by Bob Marley. You need to look up the lyrics to this song and find the second word for the final answer, which is:
