Dr. Edmund Burke was Juliet's ex-husband, and ran the Miami-based laboratory where they both worked. After their divorce, he was still her boss, causing a strained work relationship. He was involved with a girl named Sherry, who he made a research assistant.
He accused Juliet of stealing medications for her sister, Rachel. Unbeknownst to him, Juliet was being recruited by Mittelos Bioscience to work for their company. After Edmund was hit by a bus with an Apollo Candy ad on the side, she left the Miami lab to work for Mittelos.
