Richard Alpert was the recruiter for the medical research corporation, Mittelos Bioscience, that wanted to hire Juliet. She showed her slides about the company, telling her that they were based in Portland, and interested in her because of her groundbreaking research in finding cures for infertility. She initially turned him down, citing that her boss, Edmund Burke, would never let her leave his laboratory unless he was run over by a bus. After he was ironically run over by a bus, Alpert returned with Ethan Rom, and got her to agree to work for Mittelos. He then admitted that the company was "not in Portland".
