Jin KNEW Sun betrayed him?
« on: October 12, 2006, 10:30:22 AM »
Ok, maybe I missed something, and if that is the case just let me know, but when Sun was translating for Sayid what Jin was saying did she she say "He knows I betrayed him."?  Was she saying that Jin KNEW Sun had slept with Jae??  Did it show Jin find that out and I missed it??  When he went in and delivered his message to Jae I kept waiting on Jae to spill the beans, but he never did that I heard.

I go the impression Jae thought Jin was there because of his relationship with Sun, when in reality Jin (to his own knowledge) was only there because Suns father ordered him to "deliver the message."

My question: When and HOW did Jin find out that Sun had betrayed him??

We have not been shown that Jin knows about Jae (you did not miss anything)
So I wondered the same thing.

But we don't know what he is referring to.  Because it was said soon  after the flashbacks and our knowledge of Sun's cheating doesn't necessarily mean that was what he was talking about.
(I think it was the writers trying to trick us)
The betrayal could have been that she learned English behind his back.

on the other hand

Maybe he did find out about Jae somehow. He did seem a bit puzzled when Jae fell onto the car with the pearls in his hand
(So maybe it is something we haven't been shown yet)

Sayid had Sun lie to Jin for 10 more minutes. That is a betrayal to Jin.

Well, 20 minutes, to be picky, but yes, this is what Sun was talking about. The fact that Sun knows English was a betrayal that Jin has known for a while now.

I believe this is part of it. Also Jin, I believe, knew all along that Sayid was lying out his @ss about Jack still showing up and he can't see the smoke, etc. Sun supported Sayid when Jin wanted to go back to the beach camp - that was a betrayal. However, there was a certain amount of trust Jin put in Sayid to get them through the situation. When Sun and Sayid were discussing that he was setting a trap for the Others, Jin stated he knows more English than they realized.

I don't think Jin knew about Jae and Sun - otherwise, they wouldn't have been in the airport together and Jae would have definitely taken a dirt nap-no qualms about it.

Also Jin wouldn't have been romantic in the airport (showing Sun the flower that convinced her to stay with him)

You know with all this back story going back and forth, it doesn't make sense to me.

Why would Sun's father want Jin to avenge the family honor if it wasn't for someone insulting a father in the worst way? Adultry!

I think Jin is a very smart guy and I am sure that he knows that Sun has been keeping soemthing from him. I can tell when my wife is keeping something from me. She might not ever admit it, but I know.

Paik's excuse was that Jae stole from Paik. Therefore, he disgraced Paik. Since Jin is Paik's "son," he has disgraced Jin as well. Honor is a big part of life in many Asain countries.

I'm going to agree with BRB
I think that is possible that Jin knew about the affair and we just have not been shown that yet

That's what I was thinking.
Sun betrayed Jin by lieing to him. I know this isn't betrayel in some cultures, though, I think in the asian culture that is dominant in Sun's and Jin's flashbacks betrayel is only a small thing. Betrayel, according to them is lieing, friendship with certain people, and not doing a job for your father-in-law (in Jin's case). Whereas in our culture this is not maimed betrayel, but disloyalty, not abiding by rules, or just 'frowned apon'.
It's all to do with choice of words I think.
