Episode 4x12 / Jack's appendicitis
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:25:31 AM »
Last week we posited a number of theories about why the Powers would choose this moment to give Jack appendicitis. The consensus to the extent there was one, was related to early signs of dependency, but I'm thinkin' there may be something more.

Jack would want to be the last person off the Island. He's promised everyone he'll get them off. So what would make him leave early? Perhaps he becomes incapacitated, tears his stitches out or whatever. Get him to medical care on the ship immediately then go back for the rest. Oops, coulda sworn we left the Island right there....

Episode 4x12 / Nadia is not on Sayid's list?
« on: May 17, 2008, 11:13:22 AM »
Why isn't Nadia on Sayid's list of folks to meet him? I don't think Oceanic would have limited the greeting party to just immediate family.

It's a reach but I've long thought that Sayid received bad news from (or about) Nadia during that extra day he waited to fly to the States. If she told him Don't bother me torture boy! he would believe her, I think. This would explain his not putting her on his list, his taking up with Shannon, and his comment to Danielle that she's dead (if you interpret it as dead to him).

She shows up 'cause she has a change of heart when she believes he is dead.

A change of heart that, btw, Kate's mom apparently does not share. At least not yet.

Episode 4x10 / FF timeline
« on: May 02, 2008, 09:31:51 PM »
So, I think the FFs go like this:

1. Ji Yeong. Summer, 2005. Sun has baby, Hurley is sane.
2. The Shape. Mostly in October of 2005. Maybe swap this with (3)?
3. Season premiere. Hurley starts seeing Charlie, Jack is confident, living alone.
4. Kate's trial. Jack is a tad less confident. Aaron appears to be about 2. Late 2006?
5. The Economist. Could go earlier or later....
6. Something Nice. August, 2007. After Kate's trial. Hurley is nuts, reserving a room for Jack. Jack starts skid.
7. Looking Glass. Early 2008? We have to go baaaaack.

Episode 4x07 / Why is the black box on the boat?
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:52:00 AM »
Is anyone else bothered by the fake 815's black box being on the boat?

If the captain is to be believed then it cost Widmore a pretty penny to acquire. Why would he then turn it over to the Boaties and risk losing it? What possible use is it to them?

Theories & Speculation / Danielle and Room 23
« on: February 16, 2008, 12:37:03 AM »
The Economist got me thinking back to the very first Sayid centric episode in Season 1 when we first met Danielle. In that epi we find out that Danielle shot her science team thinking they were sick, but she uses interesting language. "It took them, one after the other. I had no choice. They were already lost" and "What would have happened if we were rescued? I couldn't let that happen. I won't" and "Your people -- the one's you're determined to get back to -- watch them, watch them closely."

We're supposed to think physical illness and this was somewhat supported by Kelvin's hazmat suit and talk of a sickness, but we're now pretty sure the sickness was a cover of some sort and the phrasing Danielle used sounded more like a mental or emotional problem. Like her friends were turning into people she didn't know and who she considered a threat.

We now know the Others kidnap people and we know they make use of Room 23. How big a stretch do you think it is to suggest that Danielle's team was kidnapped one by one and turned into Stepford Cindy's by the Others?

And Danielle shot them to avoid a similar fate.

What do you think?

Community Lounge / Any Brights out there?
« on: August 24, 2007, 02:07:29 PM »
I see there's a Christian thread and thought I might see if there was interest in something rather different.

A Bright is a person that takes a Naturalistic world view, eschewing the supernatural or the mystical when it comes to explaining the world around us.

Yes, that means we're all a bunch of atheists and agnostics.  ;) But not the reverse as there are a number of atheists who believe in, say, astrology.

The term Bright came about as an attempt to find a more positive and more precise word than the usual terms which are more about what we don't believe in. It's definitely not intended to imply that we're particularly smart (we aren't). To the extent that any older definition of the word applies, the closest would have to do with shedding light on a subject via some natural or scientific evidence.

Our word for folks who do believe in something beyond the natural world is "Supers".

You can find out more at http://www.the-brights.net.

Just thought I'd see if anyone's interested in discussion.

Spoiler Theories and Speculation / Desmond and Nadia
« on: August 04, 2007, 12:29:41 AM »
Desmond joined the military in the late 90's and our best guess is that Nadia escaped from Iraq about that same time. I can't help but wonder if Des was stationed in the Middle East and had something to do with her escape. This would help to explain Nadia showing up in England, and, if Des had to disobey orders to save her, it could explain his stay in the brig as well.

Des likes to say: See ya in another life, brother.
Nadia wrote to Sayid: You will see me in the next life if not in this one.

Waddya think?

Spoiler Theories and Speculation / Portugese guys and Penny
« on: July 15, 2007, 03:05:38 PM »
We are supposed to believe something like this.

1. Portuguese guys detect Locke's implosion of the hatch.
2. Call Penny at home...at night.
3. Penny launches search or maybe not.
4. For a while we were to believe Naomi is a part of said search but now that's in serious doubt. Penny doesn't know any Naomi.

I have two problems with this:
1. Why would Penny be looking for such anomalies and be so interested that she'd give out her home number, call me anytime day or night? She has no way of knowing this phenomenon is in any way related to Desmond.
2. Every scrap of present time has been on the island. All the off island time has been in flash backs and now in a flash forward. Except the snippet with the two Portuguese guys.

So, what if that snippet is a flash forward and the timeline goes more like this?

A. Penny is in Daddy's office or some such and notices an automated call being placed by the computer.
B. Hey look here's a vaguely familiar looking guy who thinks I'm on a boat.
C. DESMOND'S ALIVE
D. Gets a fix on roughly where the call was received and begins to hunt. Finds a bit of other info about the island. Magnetic anomalies?
E. Through the next three years hires people to be on the lookout. Meets some of our Losties. Magnetic anomalies? Hears more about Desmond who's somehow been left behind.
F. Gets a call from her trusty Portuguese guys in 2007 or 8.
G. Oh, Jack, still wanna go back....?

So, waddya think? Crazy? Or does it fit as a possibility? Gotta entertain ourselves somehow!

LOST Talk / Anagrams
« on: June 15, 2007, 09:42:11 AM »
While discussions of anagrams show up in several threads, I can't find one that's specifically devoted to them. And we need something to keep our brains engaged for the next several months, so.....

We all know these:

   Ethan Rom = Other Man
Mittelos = Lost Time = Time Lost

Here's one I haven't seen:

Agent Edward Mars = Strange Drama Wed.

Mister Eko and Leslie Arzt seem like prime candidates but I can't come up with anything really good for either. Well, there's

    Mister Eko = I seek mort = I stroke me = O strike me

The first doesn't seem to fit as Eko fights to the end. The second I just couldn't resist. The third sounds vaguely biblical and could be read as a shout of defiance, so maybe.

Theories & Speculation / Jack on pain meds?
« on: June 02, 2007, 09:52:33 AM »
Oxicodine (sp?) is a pain med and as a number of folks on this board have mentioned it's highly addictive. So do ya reckon Jack's dependency started with legitimate prescriptions to treat pain?

Further into the realm of speculation, what would the source of such pain be? We know he was in a plane crash....
