Community Lounge / Tribute to Lostgirl (Debs)
« on: March 21, 2016, 10:36:02 PM »
I always loved Debbie aka Lostgirl. She was always so kind to everyone, was good-natured, and frequently brought a smile to my face! She will be missed.

Watch me.

It's a three-part episode by Joss Whedon.

I loved it.  Did anyone else watch it?  What did you think?

Forum Feedback / Suggestion Regarding the Captcha
« on: February 03, 2008, 03:46:08 AM »
Maybe I'm the only idiot, but sometimes the captcha isn't all that clear, and I mistype it in the box.  Is there a way to save the wording in the post so that if I mistype the captcha I don't have to type it all over again?

Community Lounge / Four Truths and A Lie
« on: August 21, 2007, 12:04:55 AM »
*Sigh*  I'm starting another thread.  It's another game to play because I had this request from someone to start it.  I'm hoping that it will be fun!  One person writes four truths and a lie about themselves.  People get to pick which one they think is the lie, and then whoever gets it right gets to be the next person to post the truths and a lie.  I'll start.

1.  I once went tumbling down the mountainside, only to have a bush save me from falling down off the ledge.
2.  I was in St. Lucia the day before Hurricane Dean hit.
3.  Last time I was in Hawaii, I saw Naveen Andrews from across the street.
4.  I performed (singing/dancing) at the pentagon.
5.  I sat on the same pew at church one time as the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Theories & Speculation / Dharma's Human Experiments
« on: March 09, 2007, 10:45:02 PM »
This episode got me thinking a little bit more about how Dharma fits into The Others' existence on the island.

Anyway, I think it's fair to say that Dharma had a few human experiments going on on the island.  They also had experiments for the polar bears, the sea creatures, and even frogs.

But, what were the human experiments?  What do you think they were?

I think the pressing of the button was one.  Writing in the notebooks was another, etc.  But, I also think that they had one that dealt with observing the behavior of people absent of knowledge of the outside world.  My this theory isn't completely formed, but perhaps they would take groups of people, put them in the rugged environment, and see how they interacted.  Maybe there were natives of the island already untouched by the outside world, and maybe Dharma experimented on them.  Perhaps they tried to teach them about the outside world.  Maybe they were quick learners and rebelled, and thus we have The Others.

Thoughts?

Forum Feedback / The Quick Jump

I miss that Quick Jump thing that used to be at the bottom of the threads.  When I'd get to the bottom, I used to use it to go back to whatever board where I wanted to go.

LOST Talk / Season 3 Numbers Appearances
« on: February 06, 2007, 10:08:24 PM »
I know that there is a section on the main page for this, but it's not updated all the time, so I figure that we could help by listing when we see the numbers in season 3.

In case you don't know, the numbers are 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42.

When Colleen is dying in S3X04 Every Man for Himself and Jack is trying to resuscitate her, the monitor goes from 39 to 16.

Forum Feedback / Home vs Main
« on: January 25, 2007, 10:31:21 PM »
This is just a suggestion:

I was wondering if we could have some consistency on the use of "Home?"  If I'm in the forum, "Home" means to go to the Main Forum page.  But, if I'm at the Main SWLS page, "Home" means to go to the Main SWLS page.

Not a big deal, but I still haven't gotten over my confusion with it, and it's been months since the change was made.

LOST References (Books, Movies and Music) / Frequency
« on: November 20, 2006, 03:42:10 AM »
I couldn't see where this was discussed previously, but in the movie "Frequency," Elizabeth Mitchell (Juliet) plays a character named Julia 'Jules' Sullivan who is a nurse.

In addition, in that movie, there is a main-ish character named Jack Shephard.

I don't know that there are any more connections than that in the movie.  Anyone else?

Episode 3x06 / Preview Discussion
« on: November 03, 2006, 04:43:40 PM »
Well, it looks like Alex is in it.  Probably rebellious.  I thought I saw a scene with someone perhaps tied up in the background?  Did it seem like that to you guys?

LOST References (Books, Movies and Music) / Stephen King References
« on: October 27, 2006, 04:17:17 PM »
This thread is for the discussion of all of the Stephen King references.

In 3x01, Juliet picked the book "Carrie" as the discussion book.

Episode 3x04 / The Long Con Reprise
« on: October 26, 2006, 05:56:19 PM »
Ben told Sawyer that the only way to gain the respect of a con man is to con him (or something like that).  Well, I'm of the opinion that Sawyer actually gets conned a lot.

He got conned to kill another man who he thought was the man who conned his parents.  Ben conned him.

I think that maybe even Cassidy is conning him about him having a daughter.

LOST References (Books, Movies and Music) / Of Mice and Men
« on: October 26, 2006, 05:50:50 PM »
Just an food for thought for those of you who haven't read the book "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck (I know, I'm such a nerd)... there is a character named Crooks who coincidentally is called so because of his crooked spine... Now Benry started going off on some weird tangent towards the end of the episode when he was talking to Sawyer and says something like, "A guy goes nuts if he ain't got nobody.... blah blah blah, I tell ya a guy gets too lonely and he gets sick." <---- This line is actually a quote from Crooks in the book. Crooks = Benry?

Is this relevant or just a coinkidink put into play by TPTB? I honestly don't know, but there seems to me to be a connection or reason, given the mention of the novel and the title of the epi, for Ben saying that and why he needs Jack to change his perspective. (Spinal surgery anyone? Any back/spine specialists around?)

Thus, IMHO, I think that the x-rays showing the tumor on the L4 vertabrae could possibly belong to Benry. Not to mention Jack says something about it to Ben in the preview for next week. We'll find out sooner or later.

(Anyway, the line Benry says actually has more to do with individualism, isolation, and lost hope... which I'll start a thread about later when I have time... but hopefully this helps.)

I put this here because I wanted to discuss the book, and this was a good lead-in, uofapiglet.

I also wanted to say that I really liked the reference in Episode 03x04 when they were hiking up to the cliff.  I like that Sawyer referred to himself as "George."  However, it doesn't exactly follow the book because otherwise, Sawyer would be dead.

TV & Movies / The Prestige
« on: October 23, 2006, 06:14:33 PM »
So, I was wondering if anyone else saw this movie?  And if so, what did you think?  I liked it.  Thought it was a little predictable, but it had a good story line.

I admit that I was disappointed...

MAJOR Spoiler to the movie
that they went to the unrealistic cloning of Angier.  A friend with whom I saw the movie (also a LOST fan) and I figured out the part with Borden and his 'assistant,' and I thought it was obvious that Angier faked his own death to frame Borden.

But, it was still good.
