Episode 4x02 / Re: Were They Flashforwards or Flashbacks?
« on: February 08, 2008, 07:13:47 PM »
In each of the flash scenes, we are allowed to see how each of the boaties responded to the news of O 815.

Charlotte refuses to believe it, no matter how many papers it's in.
Miles looks around and in the rear view mirror upon the news.
Frank calls the NTFB to inform them that it is not the plane.
Dan cries without reason.
Yet, Naomi, the leader of the boaties, is only expresses the possibility of there being survivors of 815 on the island.

If the scenes were flashbacks:

So, Charlotte should have said to the survivors, "I knew you were here." conclusion.
Daniel...."I'm so glad you're alive"
Frank...."Those bastards at NTFB didn't believe me, but now I've shown them.  Where's my friend Seth Norris?"

But these things were not said.  Therefore, I conclude that the scenes (except Naomi) are flashforwards, the boaties got back, and their memories and/or their realities have changed.

Episode 4x02 / What If We Find Survivors From 815?
« on: February 08, 2008, 06:59:50 PM »
Out of the thousands of islands in the pacific and millions of square miles....

Why would Naomi suspect that the plane crashed on this island and why would she suspect that there were survivors?
Abaddon/Naomi had some notion of the island's capabilities/properties before the mission.  The idea that a plane was lost and impossible to find led them to suspect that the island was a place where such an event could happen.  Additionally, Naomi knew that a crash on this island was not the same as a crash elsewhere.  (A normal altitude loss of control/crash doesn't produce survivors).  Finally, Naomi knew that although the man they were pursueing (Ben) and the others were diabolic, they would not kill the survivors.  Therefore, she must have some understanding of why Ben would want to keep them alive (baby factories).

So, it's starting to look like Abaddon is in charge of the cover-up.  Naomi's flash may have been back.  Dan, Frank, and Miles' may have had flash forwards or flashbacks.  If they were forwards, then whatever got them off the island altered their memories and/or possibly reality.

Ya, lot of theories.

But, again, why would Naomi suspect that the survivors were upon this specific island.

The electromagnetic field necessary to hide even a small island would require an electrical wattage equal to all that which has ever been generated going back to Ben Franklin and his kite.

However, if we think of the island as a mini-universe and think in terms of space time, the we could explain how Desmond could sail in any direction and always end up back at the island.

Einstein was the first to envision space time as a "fabric" that warped around on itself.  Therefore, you can think of space time as a sheet that rolls back on itself.  This means that if you travelled to the edge of the universe, you would get back to the place from which you departed.  Also, if you could see to the edge of the universe, you would view your back.  Wierd stuff Vern.

Anyway, only a black hole could produce the gravity required to bend space time within such a diameter.  So, how can the island have some properties of a black hole without pancaking the inhabitants.

Episode 4x02 / Re: Fake Plane is Not 815

That doesn't make sense Jugdish as one of the BOAT PEOPLE, the pilot of the helicopter, was shown phoning the authorities in reference to that NOT being 815.  If the boaties are part of the cover-up, then why would he work for them?
I haven't worked out my ideas on this one.  This was the Motherload of mind-f's loaded with easter eggs and paradigm shifts.  This is what Lost was missing last season.

I do think it plausible that what we saw (and have been labelling flash-backs) may have been Desmond type experiences occurring to those boaties shown (except Naomi, who died on the island).  So, they were in fack flash realities....the boaties have been projected back into a separate reality similar to the one the original and some time back.  Their memories coincide with their known pasts (like Desmond) except they begin to get perculations of their island memories.  This would explain Faraday crying.

The Naomi flash was clearly a flashback.

Abaddon and Naomi were shown in a big empty white room like Jim Carry and Morgan Freeman in Bruce Almighty.  Abaddon is the gatekeeper of Sheole (or however you spell that).

Mulitple realities, it's the only way to fly.

On the one hand, Faraday's response to 815's discovery is telling.  He is crying and a woman as why he is so upset....His reply is "I don't know."  If he is being honest, then it could be just that he is a sensitive individual, nuts, or something else.  After he left the island, did he forget the experience and only have it retained in his subconscious (crying without reason).   Did an alternative Faraday get placed in this reality and, like Desmond, only wake up to his memories?  Too many questions occurred at 6 minutes into the show.

Serious question.  Did the scenes occur before or after the four reached the island?

There's too much to think about following this episode.  I don't know about you guys but I need to see this one again (with a notepad).

Notice the name of the boat was the Christian One.

And, if so, why send a physicist, a ghostbuster.....?

Who are these people?

The future ain't what it used to be.

The key to an explanation of EVERYTHING will depend upon Ben.  Let's hope that he stays alive.

That was an excellent post.  I am impressed with the detail in your retention.  I have been lazy and need to rewatch all of the episodes.  We just had a child and it is my intent to use Lost instead of Barnie in the education of the little gal.  Anyway, I look forward to reading further posts.

Episode 4x01 / Re: Jack's Dad alive in the future?
« on: February 07, 2008, 05:46:45 PM »
Of course Christian is alive.  Do you think that the producers are excluded from behaving like the people they created.  Ben said that he would let Jack friend's go as soon as he had left the island.  The producers stated that Christian was dead, there was no time travel, and whatever else.  The translation may be that Christian is dead in this reality, passing between realities doesn't constitute time travel, and whatever else.

The producers made Ben, they can behave like Ben.

Christian is alive in some manner or form and is looking for his other shoe.

In the past, I have countered to all those who said that quantum mechanics/MPU/alternate realities was too much for the average person to bite, by asking them to go on the Stephen King Wikipedia page and count how many of his stories involve such a premise.  Now remember, many very thoughtful people have expressed an opinion that King is a ghostwriter for Lost.  If he is not, it is striking how many of those stories have themes that have been infused into the show.

Theories & Speculation / Re: THE UNIFYING THEORY

I've read all of Mr. Turtledove's alt histories....He usually begins a series of books and the first one is good while the sequel's not as good.  The one to read is "The Guns of the South" in which plans for a new rifle are given to Robert E. Lee.  The new rifle is strange looking and light.  Interestingly, they can shoot rapidly.  The men delivering the rifle call it the AK-47.  Think what about the Civil War with a 100 such guns.
