Car 54, Where Are You? with Nipsey Russell

The opposite of pro is con;
That fact is clearly seen;
If progress means move forward,
Then what does Congress mean?

Episode 5x12 / Re: Charles and Ellie
« on: April 13, 2009, 09:27:19 PM »
what if Ellie helped Ben Usurp Charles, maybe she was like his Others mentor, which is why she was helping and seemed to know Ben pretty well.

How about this: Ellie and Charles had a kid named Daniel. But Charles started having an off-Island affair with an "outsider", with whom he fathered Penny.

Episode 5x12 / Re: Does anybody care that Ceasar's dead?
« on: April 13, 2009, 08:48:25 PM »
sounding too much like mccain hahahaha
At least we don't have to hear Ceasar call anybody his friend anymore....it was getting annoying.
Oh, come on! Desmond calls everybody "brotha" and everybody likes him. Not to mention Hurley's "dude".
It's something about the way Ceasar calls people "My Friend" that irritates me. It's what Locke says "I don't think he really means it"! =D

Blowing this guy sky-high was an obvious shot at McCain and his insincere "My friend" catch-phrase. TBTB are unapologetic Obama fans.

I half expect to see and game-breaking alteration of history/alternate future and Daniel looks at the camera and, just like Locke said when the Swan exploded, cries, "I was wrong..."

Episode 5x10 / Re: wow !
« on: April 01, 2009, 10:06:50 AM »
The reason I'm making a case for Ben is that he gets blamed for a lot more than he actually does. Sayid wasn't totally justified when he pulled the trigger. How could he weigh the amount of good vs the amount of bad that Ben has done, especially since he himself is no moral person - woman torture, assasination and multiple betrayal ?

I don't believe Sayid killed young Ben in an attempt to seek revenge for the terrible things that Ben had done (both to others and to him). I believe Sayid was attempting to avoid those terrible things from happening by killing the perpetrator before he had the chance to commit those terrible acts. Sayid hasn't been briefed by Daniel as to the "What ever happened happened" theory so he (as I imagine most of us would do) thought he could change history. Sayid shot Ben to save the Dharma Initiative from the purge, to save the Losties from their persecution at Ben's hands on the Island, to save all the people who were assassinated by the Sayid-Linus team, and to save himself from Ben's manipulative clutches.

Episode 5x10 / Re: J.A.C.O.B
« on: March 31, 2009, 04:54:08 PM »
I can see it now: the letters J.A.C.B. scrawled in hieroglyphic-like writing inside the temple. "The One" has come to be known as Jacob. He will have killed his father. He will lead us.

Do we know who Aaron's father really is? REALLY? (or is it just Thomas). According to the prophecy, whoever it is had better watch his back.

Episode 5x10 / Re: Where Will Sayid Go Poll
« on: March 31, 2009, 03:27:03 PM »
I think he will want to watch over the events to come on the Island ...

ok, we know the dead come back to life, and miles can hear the not risen dead
we know there are time jumps
so almost anthing is possible

so how many of you would be upset if they somehow figured out a way to turn Sayid into Smokey ?  Sayid dies and his "essence", his "spirit", his "killing nature" is trapped on the island and becomes Smokey, the island security system

This is a fascinating connection that has never occurred to me before... and I do not see this happening. But there certainly is something to be said for the fact the both Sayid and Smokey appear to be killing machines at the service of one Benjamin Linus. Many believe that Smokey "judges" people before killing them and we know that Sayid only kills people for what they have done (or will do).

Nothing is constraining them to do or say what they do or say.  they are making free choices at the time.  It is just that, when they go to the future, they will have alrady made their free choices.  The past being unchangable does not have any impact on their free choice at the time.

Michael tried to make the "free choice" of killing himself. The Island "constrained" him.

I like the idea of the disappear-puppet string yank-Earth rotation-reappear theory, but remember that the Earth not only rotates, but also revolves around the sun. So, if it were to disappear and then reappear at a different point in time but in the exact same place, it would most probably be floating along the Earth's orbit somewhere in space.

I say vile vortices

It doesn't have to have anything to do with the fact that time is different on the Island than off the Island. It could very well be that, at one point, Ethan time-warped, spent 20 years there, and then returned to the moment from which he had left. No?

If they landed in 2007, why is Otherville all abandoned and decrepit? Didn't the Others move into the old Dharma digs and keep it up and running? It looks like a ghost town now...

Episode 5x09 / Re: Time Traveling Memories
« on: March 26, 2009, 12:32:42 PM »
Desmond is different

What makes Desmond different is not just the fact that he turned the key and got a face full of Island mojo.  Desmond's consciousness jumps back to a past-Desmond body and alters history.  This is what Hawking feared and it's probably why Widmore meddled so much with Des' life.  He is dangerous and potentially very powerful.  Let's try to keep him down in The Swan for as long as possible.

I agree that Desmond is different, but I don't think he is alone. I think that when brother Campbell told him "now you are one of us" he didn't mean a monk,
but somebody like maybe brother Campbell himself, mrs. Hawking and Abbadon.
But Desmond is behind everything we saw, he didn't push the button in time and caused 815 to crash, he turned the failsafekey and caused the freighter to find the island, he called Penny from the freighter and caused the 06 to leave the island, he gave Daniel the right coordinates for his timetravelexperiments (told to him by Daniel himself in the future) causing Dan to come to the island, he was the one to keep saving Charlie's life so that Charlie didn't die and could go to the looking glass and turn the switch so Jack could contact the freighter and send their position, causing Ben to turn the wheel and the island to move in time, causing the losties/freighters to be in Dharmatime.
If Desmond is special and can change things, did he change everything and was there a past when Jin didn't meet Rousseau and Ben didn't meet Sayid and Richard and Widmore didn't meet Locke? Or is he coursecorrecting and was his purpose to cause whatever happened to happen?

You wanna know what makes Desmond different? Widmore.

Widmore, as an Other and powerful friend of Ms. Hawkings, endows Desmond with some time-breaking qualities in an attempt to go back and change the course of history with the goal of stopping Ben from Killing his daughter, Penny. That's what yanks Desmond out of the constraints of time and that is (as Ben has said before) how Widmore changes the rules.

Episode 5x06 / Re: Who kicked the crap out of Ben?
« on: March 14, 2009, 05:56:40 AM »
Ben killed Penny. Widmore finds out and freaks. Widmore then, in a desperate attempt to change history and save his daughter, works with his Island sweetheart Mrs. Hawkings to unstick Desmond in time and change the events leading up to Penny's death. This is why Desmond is different and why time doesn't affect him the same way it affects everyone else.

Waddaya think?

But as far as we know... you can't change whats happened. And I stress "as far as we know"

You can't change what happened, but Desmond can!
