Episode 3x08 / Re: Low ratings = Good news
« on: February 21, 2007, 05:07:16 PM »
If this show ends in an actual movie, I swear I'll kill myself...not really though. That's almost as bad as the X-files movie (what happened to part 2?)...although a 24 movie might work, even though Johnny Depp did it already like 10 years ago in Nick of Time (in concept at least).

Stranger in a Strange Land is a science fiction novel by Robert A. Heinlein published in 1961. It tells the story of Valentine Michael Smith, a human raised by Martians on Mars, as he returns to Earth in early adulthood. The novel explores his interaction with and eventual transformation of Earth culture. The title of the book is from the Biblical Book of Exodus. - from Wikipedia

Exodus is the second book of the Torah, the Tanakh, and the Old Testament. The major events of the book concern the Exodus, a departure of Hebrew slaves from Egypt under the leadership of Moses. - from Wikipedia

The Garden of Earthly Delights - Hieronymus Bosch

"...a prolific Dutch painter of the 15th and 16th centuries. Many of his works depict sin and human moral failings. Bosch used images of demons, half-human animals and machines to evoke fear and confusion to portray the evil of man....Among his most famous is The Garden of Earthly Delights. This triptych depicts paradise with Adam and Eve and many wondrous animals on the left panel, the earthly delights with numerous nude figures and tremendous fruit and birds on the middle panel, and hell with depictions of fantastic punishments of the various types of sinners on the right panel. When the exterior panels are closed the viewer can see, painted in grisaille, God creating the earth." - From Wikipedia

Episode 3x08 / The Monitoring Station
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:47:01 PM »
Did this episode help explain the "monitoring station" to anyone? I think that it will be VERY important (to Desmond's story at least).

I'd like to hear any NEW thoughts!

Episode 3x08 / Re: Is Desmond the new "Fulcrum" of LOST?
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:39:28 PM »
Ok, so Jack was going to be killed in the pilot, but it was changed. It's a simple thing for the writers to say "ok, this Jack character has alot to offer, let's make him the main guy instead of blank"

I'd like to think that one of the original characters was always going to be the fulcrum, maybe it was Locke, Kate, Sawyer or some character that they cut, but Jack was the better choice in the end.

Theories & Speculation / Forbidden Planet theory?
« on: February 20, 2007, 03:07:02 PM »
Has anyone the Forbidden Planet theory based on that old movie? I heard this during the 1st season and forgot about it since.

It goes like this...people land on a planet and this alien race left behind a machine that let's you think anything you want into existence. Turns out their subconscious let loose a monster and it killed them all and it ends up messing with and killing the new people as well.

I'm sure their are similar theories on this board...
any thoughts?

Another question about this theroy...

Where to the children fit in? Why are they taken? What about Aaron, what could his role be?

Just wondering your take on this T Mack.

Episode 3x08 / Is Desmond the new "Fulcrum" of LOST?
« on: February 20, 2007, 11:35:53 AM »
I think Jack is the true "hero" of the show not Dessie...

Great Post!

The only problem I have with this (great) theory is Desmond being the "fulcrum" of it all.

The way I see it Jack is the fulcrum, with Kate and Sawyer in the mix somehow. Jack is the leader, the savior, the shepherd.

Everyone else around him only helps or hinders his final destiny, which is saving the world of course! Most likely he sacrifices himself to do it in the end. I can't see it any other way (as TV show anyway :)).

Anyway, that's my 2 cents!

Theories & Speculation / Re: Perhaps the "others" are from the future!
« on: February 16, 2007, 05:57:17 PM »
no time travel
no aliens
no clones
all explainable scientifically

at least that is what they said.
so far, i haven't seen anything other than the smoke creature that couldn't be explained scientfically.
desmond did not time travel, he had a dream and his life flashed, is flashing and will contine to flash before his eyes

Things that can't be explained scientifically...
1. Dessie seeing the future.
2. Walt appearing in the camp, etc.
3. The Black Rock in the middle of the island.
4. The aforementioned Smokster.
...did I miss anything?

Any thoughts as to what the writers had in mind with moving the story along, or were they just alseep at the wheel?
