Episode 5x15 / Re: The Compass vs The Journal
« on: May 07, 2009, 07:41:44 PM »
Doesn't a compass actually point to the magnetic north, rather than true north?  So, on the islalnd it should point to the magnetic force of the island.

Well we know the island can move in space and time, but do we know whether it rotates? So north can't always be the same.

Also, the islands magnetic field throws compasses off, except for (apparently) Richard/Locke's? So does that mean with the compass, you can always know where north is even when the island has moved?

Sawyer knew who he was from there time in the 50s.  When Locke walked down the hill into the camp.  Juliette says that the guy down there is Richard and he is Old  really Old.

I really dont think this is a subject that really needs to be discussed anymore.  Also if he wasnt there when Juliette said that, because I dont really remember if he had already gone after Faraday or not.  But it is very likely that the losties do other things then what we see on camera.  There are somethings in the past that have just been understood as happening or someone told somebody else.

Good call :)

Runways are quite large, and the hydra island is quite small so it's possible it runs near the beach and far into the jungle (where kate and sawyer worked)

Yer I think Sawyer may have just heard the sirens, saw him and realized it was bad news, not that he was Richard Alpert.

But his reaction seemed to knowing... and he said his name... hmm... maybe they did meet, but Richards probably met way to many people in his long life to remember them all.

And as for the John Locke thing... well some things come up in conversation, other things, you WANT to keep from people so I guess it's believable that Locke told him about their meeting.

No engines swallowing people up like the 815...

Crazy stuff: Yeh I heard about that (i live in UK though lol)

no older ben is on hydra island with locke and the other ajira plane crash survivors and they are in the present NOT 1977

Are they in the present though? I assumed that too, but we don't know that for sure.

I agree.  I don't think we know exactly "when" they are, but we seem to be being pushed towards the present.  Our clues are the maps/papers Caesar found in the Hydra station, and the fact that there is a Hydra at all suggests they're definitely post-Dharma.  I've heard some people say that the marks on the maps/papers seem to indicate that they're things Daniel must've done around freighter-time, but I'm not entirely sure of that...

I am pretty sure that last night when we saw the monitors, One of the guys says "What are the Polar Bears going to escape their cages", or something close to that, so we know the Hydra was there in 1977.

Also I think we know that Ben and the rest of the Ajira 316ers are in present time because Lapidus landed on the runway that Kate and Sawyer were building while they were being kept in the cages.

Actually, all we know is that there ARE polar bears in cages SOMEWHERE. Perhaps something happened at the hydra station and the D.I. abbandoned it back in the 70's.

As for the plane on the runway?? No possible way. Sawyer and Kate were working much further into the island than where that plane is. The plane is on the shore line, and that runway was surrounded on all sides by jungle.

As for the idea of being able to land that plane, I don't care how good of a pilot you are, there's no way to land a plane like that on the ground and have the thing be in as good shape as that one is. I mean, the wings were still attached. They would have been the first things to come off after initial touchdown. On the water or the ground.

It's possible to land a plane in water

But yeh I agree with you, I doubt he landed it on the island, maybe it got brought down by smokie ;) ... I dunno lol!
