LOST Talk / Into the final season - Favorite Character(s).....
« on: March 21, 2010, 08:33:56 PM »
Well now we are well into the final season of our favorite show I was wondering who everyone rooting for, who's our favorite characters, why, and if/what made you change your mind....
Just reading some thread's and I think this could be a good way of reminding some of us of the more subtle points of the characters, maybe telling us a few things we forgot, basically give us a 'new' approach to some old characteristics that we have grown to love over the past 6 years - well its worth a shot.

I have always been a big admirer of Charles Widmore, I love the character, so mysterious, never giving too much away, always playing his cards close to his chest. He obviously 'loves' the Island in his own way and wants it back at any cost. He seems such a hard man with money to back up his plan, but we have seen with his deteriorating relationship with his daughter Penny that he has a good heart (IMO). As much as he 'loves' the Island he still accepts that he screwed up with his relationship with Penny, he is obviously very devout to the Island that he would risk his relationship with his daughter. I think his 'obsession' with the Island is almost desperate and I am sure in the end he will turn out to be the good guy (or one of them).

I have always loved the Des and Penny thing to, only time I got a bit emotional was when it was Penny's boat that picked up the Oceanic 6 and the reunion between the 2 lovers. Desmond looks like being central to the Island's pysics, after all the time travelling he has had a pivotal role in constants and forseeing the future - a great and interesting character.

Also worthy of mention is Libby, another intruiging character and pretty to boot :). Just hope we find out why she was in the SRMI, I feel we deserve that at least.

Of the main characters Locke was always my favorite, loved his belief in his faith, that he would go to any lenght to follow his faith and that Smokey actually let him live back in the early days, leading him to say that he had seen into the eye of the Island and it was beautiful. I was kind of glad he was chosen to take the form of Smokey and it seems more beleivable than any of the other character being 'chosen', his strong faith and determination makes him a great vessel for MiB, he can be very persuasive (as we saw with people like Boone) yet seem quite calming, certainly not threatening, quite vulnerable as we have seen from his flashback - a great character acted very well by Terry O'Quinn.

so in conclusion:

1. Charles Widmore
2. John Locke
3. Desmond

Thanks for reading.

Episode 6x06 / Re: Damn, Richard!
« on: March 10, 2010, 08:03:36 PM »
I am totally into the theory that Richard was a slave (in chains) on the Black Rock and was freed and given a gift by Jacob, but what I dont buy into is why the hell he suddenly starts taking orders from young Ben?
After all, he says he has been there longer than we can imagine, Ben meanwhile in contrast has been there 2 minutes, so is this purely upon Jacobs orders? If so, I am not surprised he is pissed with big J!

So what do we know? Before Ben was shot by Sayid Widmore and Hawkins were running the camp, Richard was basically a go between for Widmore and even got a rollocking of CW for taking Ben to the temple to be healed, so was Dogen Charles' replacement on the Island? Or was it Ben?

Sheesh this get more confusing the more I think about it!

I thought Hurley had his 'ability' for seeing dead people before Jacob met him, maybe he met Jacob before he handed him the guitar case in the cab but Hurley didnt seem to recognise him.

Is Faith bad or good? Is Science good/bad?
Is Freewill good/bad is Fate good/bad?

Is Jacob good/bad is MIB good/bad?

More than any of these questions i want to know.... Is Charles Widmore (Wallace?) Bad or Good?

Im still betting Good :)

Episode 6x06 / Guess the candidates 'special powers'......
« on: March 10, 2010, 07:11:52 PM »
Are we able to get an idea of what the Losties special 'gift' is from Jacob?

Richard's reveal that Jacob touched him and now he can't kill himself (also assume he dosent age) but he is convinced Jack can kill him.

No idea yet where Richard was 'touched' but his gift is revealed, unable to kill himself and possibly (likley) does not age.

So we have seen some of the candidate's meet Jacob and seen him 'touch' them in different places.

Kate - (likley not a candidate) but Jacob touched he on the nose.
Jack - touched on the hand (as Jacob gave him the Apollo bar).
Sawyer - also touched on the hand (as Jacob gave him a pen).
Locke - touched on the shoulder after he was pushed out the window.
Sun and Jin - touched on the shoulders at their wedding.
Sayid - touched on the shoulder by Jacob asking directions.
Hurley - cant remember, he was given the guitar case (and Ankh), maybe again on the hand.

So we have Kate - nose, Jack, Sawyer and possibly Hurley - hand and Sun, Jin, Locke and Sayid on the shoulder - any meaning in this?

4 - Locke - shoulder
8 - Hurley - hand (possibly)
15 - Sawyer - hand
16 - Jarrah - shoulder
23 - Jack - hand
42 - Kwon - shoulder

Or is a touch just a touch, no matter where?

I think in this timeline Jacob is the bad one.
He only thinks about the island and not about the people.

MIB kills too, but if he achieves his goal, that according to me is going back to the original timeline,
everybody will be alife again. So, he didn't kill anybody.

I agree, in assuming you mean the LA X time line. Its a good theory put well in writing, no offence meant but its a simple way of summing it up, as I see (and am sure others do) many theories that are very complicated.
But if we think of the crash, the death (Boone, Shannon, Charlie, Locke etc) as the 815 crash time line then yes, I agree this is Jacob's doing, bringing the people to the Island by way of Des not pushing the button etc, the whole Dharma and a big power struggle on the Island including Jughead.
However if the LA X timeline is what MiB, Flocke, or whatever we call HIM is planning with his promises (getting off the Island, Sayid can see Nadia again etc) then it would make alot of sense, to me at least.

I'm going along with this theory for now, the crash and the 815ers struggle on the Island was all down to Jacob's interference but MiB can put all this right if people will trust him and follow/ join him, thus ending up in the LA X timeline - everyone is alive and well and on a slightly better footing than before 815 left Sydney.

Episode 6x04 / Re: Candidate's vs Recruit's.
« on: March 05, 2010, 01:30:54 PM »
I take your point Bob, and yes I agree. What I was trying to say is that Dogen would have been guilty for causing his sons death but if Jacob 'revives' him then he can no longer carry the guilt of his sons death if in fact he is alive? The guilt would be more for the situation he caused (his son having no dad and the trauma he has put him through) than that of killing his son.

And was it not Keamy's goon that killed him in LA X, Sayid used him as a human shield, even though Sayid 'is not that man anymore', shows what a bit of gentle persuasion can bring out in a man.  ;D

Love the Christopher Walken thing, thought exactly the same thing, only wish I could do the impersination that good, kind of hard with British accent :P

But before you vomit, the flashes sideways are doing a very similar thing.  They are providing a completely different perspective of the characters that we know and love.  One without the influences of Jacob, Dharma or the island - ever.  And we have seen that they are indeed intrinsically different people.

Without the influences of Jacob yes, but I disagree, I think we are seeing the characters in the flash sideways as a representation after their Island experience, the original flash back is how they turned out without the Islands influence.

For instance Jack was self obsessed and bitter, always looking for his dad's approval before his Island adventure, now he seems a more caring, willing to listen type of guy after his experience on the Island. Whilst the Island never happened in the flash sideways (shown IMO by it being sunken) I still think they had the experience.
Hard to explain but nearest I can think of is people who say they have been abducted by aliens, dont remember anything (ala Men in Black's white flash) but have still apparently experienced the abduction. OMG I cant believe I mentioned alien abduction on a Lost forum!!!  ::)

Episode 6x04 / Re: Candidate's vs Recruit's.
« on: March 04, 2010, 05:03:53 PM »
So basically it seemed that at least on this occasion (and maybe others) Jacob used Dogen's guilt in the equasion, he knew that Dogen felt guilty for his son's demise and along comes Jacob with an offer to take away the guilt (or at least part of it), let his son live and give Dogen a new life, never to see his son again.

A thought popped in my head, Dogem must be either really loyal to Jacob, feel threatened by him or have been brainwashed by him.
Put yourself in his position, MiB said anyone who joined him would be able to leave the Island with him, leave the Island and return to his son. I dont recall MiB saying 'anyone except Dogen', although thinking about it, maybe his work on the Island makes him an exception to MiB's offer?

If MiB's offer was an open one, and there was a chance Dogen would be able to patch up his differences (after all Ben was Jacob's go between with the Other's yet MiB spared him) would he not take a chance? He must have realised now Jacob is dead his time is up, so why not take the chance, either way you could end up dead but MiB's way offers you the slightest chance of leaving and seeing your son?

Episode 6x05 / Re: Sup, Claire?
« on: March 04, 2010, 10:59:10 AM »
I'd like to disagree, I think any parent who has a missing child would first and foremost want to know where they are, not how they are doing or what food they like, what color hair they have, first and foremost where is he.....
The look on Claire's face was enough for me to think 'why dont you tell Claire where Aaron is', maybe just as strange the fact Claire didnt ask 'where is he now?'.
