Episode 6x16 / Re: Unanswered Questions
« on: May 29, 2010, 10:17:54 PM »
So, there are times when talented story-crafters leave a series finale open-ended to allow fans' imaginations to continue on the story line as each fan would enjoy best.  Then there's feces.  Guess what I smell?

Episode 6x16 / Re: Numbers...Valenzetti....An....swer?
« on: May 27, 2010, 08:14:16 AM »
Saying that all the people in the sideworld were souls, except for David, who only existed in Jack's head is
much insaner. Dogen saw him, Juliet saw him as her son, Claire talked to him. Were they all in Jack's head?

They weren't all in Jack's head (by this point there were only worms in Jack's head),  but there can be no doubt that most of these people weren't "real." or even souls of any kind  The sideways universe was created through the collective consciousness of all of the Islanders who formed a bond about their time on the island, not all of dead humanity (don't you think it would be a little crowded, not to mention a little weird for those who hadn't lived in the 2000's?), and clearly not every delivery man in their universe could have possibly been to the island before.  Most of the people there were imaginary, just as the chairs, hamsters, and volleyballs populating that universe were imaginary.  Their not-yet-ready-to-depart-but-needing-a-universe-to-meet-each-other souls needed a believable backdrop through which to meet up again, so they created a universe similar to their own but more awesome.  That wasn't Helen.  That wasn't Anthony Coooper.  There was no David.

I laughed out loud when Jacob told Kate something to the effect of, "It's just a line of chalk, Kate.  The job's yours if you want it."  Only funny because of all the banter on here about who the candidates were and why Kate couldn't be a candidate anymore blah blah blah and in the end it just really didn't matter.  It was like, well, anyone could take over I guess, but I'd really like it to be one of you guys.  No big.

Yeah, the kids did all right in their acting--they are only kids, after all, but the lady from West Wing was downright terrible, and I usually like that actress.  The glowing light was lame not only in its inherent lameness that none of us needs to explain to each other, but insomuch that in the third to last episode it's brought in out of the blue that the island is the source of all... everything in the entire, what... universe?  There's a little bit of that light inside every man?  I could have loved this episode.  I still enjoyed watching this backstory, but it seemed poorly done.

They're leading towards a wonderful place by getting back to all this "Jack wants to fix things" stuff in the sidewaysverse.  Jacob seemed to want to fix humanity, always holding out that it could be done no matter what MIB said.  Jack, as the new Jacob, would not only be trying to fix humanity the whole time, but would also be trying to fix Flocke as they existed together on the island for the rest of time.

I'm pretty sure the dynamite in the Black Rock didn't evolve into C4 during its stay on the island.

How about when Ben's mother visits him on the island when he's a boy?  She didn't die on the island, so... just doesn't fit MIB's MO as described last night.  I'm starting to wonder if this is why they've always left so many questions unanswered--because they weren't actually answered and they were just making things up as they went.  Such a shame.

Episode 6x11 / Re: Desmond hit Locke because....

Despite the time difference (2004 vs. 2007), the Losties in the sidewaysverse clearly have "memories" of times spent on the island, even though temporally, those times wouldn't have happened yet.  We just have to accept that as part of the magic occurring.

Good lord in heaven!  We're still theorizing it's Sideways Jack's son???????  Besides how ludicrous that is, he looked nothing like him, nor like the extremely dark and burly adult MIB.  He resembled them less that he resembled... Charlie, so I'll go ahead and post that I think he's Charlie (even though he's clearly Jacob).

Episode 6x11 / Re: Best Lines of the Night

Desmond, to a bewildered Flocke, who asks Desmond if he knows who he is:
"You're John Locke."
It was said with a kind of calm certainty that seemed to unnerve Flocke.  Another clue that John is coming through.

Least favorite line--dubbed in post-production when Hugo brings them to Flocke's camp at the end, Flocke:
"Hello Jack."
There was no need for this line, and in fact it ruined the moment when Flocke sees that Jack has come with Hugo.  Don't know why they added it.

Episode 6x11 / Laugh Out Loud Moments-Dynamite and BMWs
« on: April 14, 2010, 07:49:05 AM »
Okay, these weren't exactly funny, and my wife looked at me like I was crazy, but they were so sweetly unexpected and forwards-moving that I laughed out loud at these two events and wondered if anyone had similar moments last night.
When Ilana just blew right up.  It was like, and.... she's done.  Moving on.
When Desmond ran over Locke.  I guess my body had no way of processing this, so it defaulted to laughter?

Not a line, but the gag where Mikhail gets shot and spins into a close-up revealing that he got shot right in the eye--I laughed out loud.  They stayed on that shot for so long, like, "Huh?  See?  His eye?  You know, his eye?  Get it?  Because he had both eyes at the start and you were like 'Hey, he's got both eyes,' and now we're like, 'Hey look we took his eye away again!'"

Episode 6x07 / Re: Little House on the Prairie
« on: March 17, 2010, 03:15:44 PM »
There actually was a previous episode when Sawyer says something about "Little House," and Kate laughs at him for having such a familiar term with it, and teases him.  I'm sure I could look it up if Ii didn't have other things to do.  It's always been a favorite show of his.  Remembering that, I laughed out loud last night when he was watching Little House, and missed the entire scene as I explained these same connections to my wife.

Episode 6x07 / Re: MIB's Mommy
« on: March 17, 2010, 07:14:22 AM »

Back to MIB - - Interesteing that he has Mommy issues; Claire & Kate have issues with being Mommy; Jack, Sawyer, Hurley & Locke have Daddy issues . . . If this whole thing ends up being a group therapy session I will be seriously pissed off!
Locke also has Mommie issues.  A crazy Mommie, in fact.  When he was talking to Sawyer about knowing what it's like to love, to be betrayed, etc, it could have been Locke talking.  Tonight when he said he had a crazy mother it could have been Locke talking.  I wonder if Smokie has an identity crisis.  Like maybe he doesn't know where Locke ends and he begins.  Is he becoming Locke?  Is his personality blending into Locke's?  Is that what happens when he gets stuck?  He loses himself?
I wondered if Locke was coming through when, after he saw the little blond kid in the jungle in a previous ep, he yelled, "Don't tell me what I can't do!" (or similar), which was a very Locke thing to say.
