Episode 5x06 / Re: Ben Got Them All On 316, Just Like He Got Them on 815
« on: February 19, 2009, 04:50:44 PM »
I have a funny feeling that walt doesn't need to get to the island the same way the others had to. I wont be suprised if we see him on the island before the season ends.

Oooo, this is a very good point.  When Michael was captured by the others as he was going after Walt, he was questioned.  One of the questions was to the effect of, "Has Walt ever appeared in places he was not supposed to be?"  We know he is special.

Episode 5x06 / Re: 316: Question of the Week
« on: February 19, 2009, 04:33:53 PM »
Hrm, I should point out that the questions should probably be answerable without being spoilerish. So, the Locke suicide question would obviously be something I could answer only by utilizing spoilers. Sorry, I should have clarified that. That said, I could technically still pick that question and just discuss it without answering it... what it would mean if he was really dead, or if he was only "asleep", or if he was really dead but would be resurrected later.

Thank you for the clarification!  Obviously, I haven't posted much yet and I suppose I'm a newbie to your site too.  I now see where you are heading with the question.  I thought it was just a question for discussion, didn't realize you would actually be answering it for us.  Cool!

Did Locke really kill himself?

Episode 5x06 / Re: Why would there be another flash?
« on: February 19, 2009, 03:18:16 PM »
If the last flash was when Locke was going down the well and it took them back to the old Dharma (pre-Orchid) days, then why would there be another flash to get them off the plane? What would cause it?

Maybe the final Flash when Locke moves the wheel is the same flash the Flight 316'ers experienced that landed them on the Island - though it sort of cheats the rules of the flashes so far - in that all the flashes so far have left our vaunted castaways physically in the same place, only in different times.

I was wondering the same thing though.  What if the flash that took Locke back by turning the wheel is the same flash that takes them back to the island?
But it does create some fluidity problems, as you mentioned...

Episode 5x06 / Ben can't return to the island?
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:11:15 PM »
I know that he said this, but we all know what a liar he is.
So the question is, can he go back, or not?

If he can't go back, why did he get on the plane?

He's gone and left many times before, the difference is that this time he turned the wheel to get off the island instead of whatever means he's used in the past.  He said whomever turns the wheel can't come back, right?  But was that just a lie to get Locke to believe that he has to die in order to get his friends back?

Then again, Richard told Locke he would have to die.

What do you all think?

Episode 5x06 / Re: How did they used to get on and off the island?
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:06:44 PM »
Here's my theory...  Dharma used the pendulum thing to find the island and then Dharma was able to stop the island from moving.  How...  they used the computer in the Swan to release the electromagnetic energy safely instead of letting it "move the island".  So the original inhabitants know how to get on and off (Privileged info), and once Dharma finds the island with the pendulum, they make it stationary with the Swan station.  Once Locke blows the Swan station, the island begins moving again and the electromagnetic explosion shows up on Widmore's Ukrainian sensors and they now have a base point to restart the pendulum looking for the island.

Ben has definitely been off the island previous to the current timeline (evidenced by the many passports he has), but now that the island is moving he cannot get back on his own knowledge, he needs to depend on Ms. Hawking to get back.  I think this all fits in nicely with the "pockets of electromagnetic energy" that Ms. Hawking mentions as well as the bright flash seen by all when the Swan station went up.

This may also link up to the whole donkey wheel theory.  The Swan station kept the island in place in space while the donkey wheel on it's axis keeps the island in place in time.

I like this alot. I believe the island was still "hidden" but stationary with the swan station up and running. Once it was blown up (or imploded) it started moving again. This would be confirmed by Ben's comments in season 3 that the sub would be a one way trip. He stated that they can not get back to the island since the sky turned purple.

But isn't it "hidden" because it's moving?  That's the impression I got from Hawkings last night, but I'm not 100% sure...

Episode 5x06 / Re: Recreating the Flight
« on: February 19, 2009, 12:04:21 PM »
What doesn't make sense about any of this, is that even as CLOSE as they can get things to 815 - it is nowhere near the same. Different flight, different route, different pilot, different passengers, etc. I mean, c'mon, only 5 people on the plane are the same as those on 815. There are 78 empty seats, and a bunch of random people in coach. So, really, how important is it that they recreate the 815 flight? I was really disappointed with this being the method they had to return by. I'm fine with Ajira 316, but this whole BS with them having to recreate the circumstances of 815 just seems very weak to me.
But the Redshirts did not matter in the recreating the flight. Only the special people had to be there. Recreating the flight was only based on the oceanic 6 being on the plane and in similar circumstances.

Right, because the redshirts were just that because the island didn't want them...they had no purpose (other than to provide some excitement for the viewers)

if Jin and Damiel are in Dharma time
and Charlotte's parents worked for Dharma, and she remembers Daniel from when she was little and on the island,
do you think we'll see her next week as a child ?
maybe getting Korean lessons from Jin ?

Does anyone remember that Charlotte was the name of the girl who drowned and came back to life in Season 2?  She was the daughter of the psychic that sent Claire to the island.

Could this be the same Charlotte??  She had a bit of an accent as a girl, long straight light reddish hair...and he mom had a thicker accent.

Or am I just losing it?  Cuz this show does that to me!

Warthog, that was my theory as well, but Hawking's line about them not being rescued because the island was moving implies that it was moving before the whole not-pushing-button incident occurred.

DITTO, you beat me to it!  I'm glad I was not the only one wondering about this.
Otherwise, the theory works out grandly...except for this one very difficult point.

Episode 5x06 / Re: POLL: The Meaning of 316
« on: February 18, 2009, 09:31:04 PM »
The obvious answer is that it will be the bearing to get to the island.
The not-so-hidden meaning is in reference to John 3:16

WHO is her Father????

Wasn't Charlotte the name of the young girl who supposedly came back to life after drowning in Season 2?  Her father was the psychic.

Same Charlotte?  She had reddish hair and the accent.
