I ment they were others who had left prior to the plane crash, not losties.

The apollo moonshots had saturn rockets and had to reach an escape velocity of over 25000 miles per hour.  Sound travels 742 mph at sea level, so 25000 divided by 742 equals (anybody have a calculator).  My guess would be mach 33.

Most ICBM's travel at over 15000 mph and interceptor missiles travel even faster.  But, here, ballistics mean nothing anyway (there is another unknown variable).  We know that the rocket couldn't have been going too fast cause if it was, the kinetic energy from hitting the ground would (even with a small rocket) would have blown up the entire area.

If you want to see what happens when a rocket or jet hits something solid, watch the you tube video of a F-4 Phantom hitting a cement bunker (type in F-4 Phantom and bunker).
The airplane literally evaporates.

But the ICBM's and Apollo spacecraft do not reach speeds like that until they are in a higher and  thiner atmosphere. And Apollo was in space (no air) when it escaped the earths gravity.

I will officialy call the people on the list as people who left the island before the crash and never returned. If the O-6 keep quiet they are allowed to live, but all others will be killed by Sayid and Ben.

It's out there but this is Lost we are watching.

Hmmm, I'm wondering if after the rocket makes it to the apex, it could increase speed with he rocket still firing, but now going down....I never had calculus or trig...whichever may apply...

I used this conversion chart
still came up with 154.8mph

You are using the 31 minutes, I am using the 28 second time of flight in real time that the boat said it landed.

I'm pretty sure with speeds like that the rocket would have burned up from the friction, not to mention be destroyed by the impact and causing a large crater.

Anyone else wonder why they decided to launch a supersonic missile to land 20 meters away from to only functioning way off the island. Seems really stupid.

I think the boat is only 8 miles off shore now. That would put the missile in the MACH 1.5 range which is easily doable.

But that should be close enough for the islanders to see it on the horizon, if there wasn't a bubble that scatters the light differant.

A normal mile is 5,280 feet.

80*5,280 = 422,400 feet / 28 seconds = 15085.7 feet per second =10,286.5 Mph = MACH 13.51

Still too fast

Assuming the Freighter is still 80 miles off shore.
80 miles is most likely 80 Nautical miles just over 2000 yards per mile
80*2,000=160,000 yards=480,000 feet
480,000 / 28 seconds = 17,142 feet per second = 11,689 Miles per hour

Thats MACH 15.36 ----Can't happen

I disagree, I think it's between Michale and Sayid. Michale for the obvious reason, and Sayid for casting a bad light on the O-6 for his contract kills. Or Maybe Sayid does something to force the other 5 off the island.

If I were to fall into a Black Hole and you were watching from a distance, I would just go right in. But to me I would be falling forever, until I get ripped apart from gravity.

So If she fired a rocket and watched in go all the way in, but the rocket had more inflight time from the "Black Hole" effect.

As for the real time talking to the boat, I think the "Barrier/Bubble" has a hole in the top to allow the satellite phone signal in and out with no problems. The phones are not like walkie talkies with a line of sight transmissions. The signal goes up to space and back down.

I hope this makes sense to someone cause I just confused myself.
