Episode 6x14 / The Rules of the game....
« on: May 14, 2010, 04:26:45 PM »

That is a link to a page with the rules of Senet, the game MIB found on the beach and the game that's been featured in Lost.  I've read through and thought there might be some similarities between the game and the happenings of Lost.  Have a peak and see if something jumps out at you.

"#5.  A piece forced into the water loses any remaining throws. Once in the House of the Waters, a piece can't be moved. To reactivate the piece, the player must either throw a 4, or move the piece to Square 15 (right above Square 26) and lose a turn. A player may try for a throw of 4 as often as they wish, but they get only one try per turn. If they give up after repeated tries, they can move to Square 15 on their next turn."

I thought this part was interesting, just not sure if it has anything to do with Lost.

"Senet is played on a board of 30 squares arranged in 3 rows of 10 each. Each player has 5 pieces (some games use 7). Counting sticks are thrown to determine moves. The object of the game is to be the first to carry all your pieces off the board, while hindering your opponent by either blocking his way or sending his pieces back to earlier squares."

This was pretty eye opening for me.

ooooooo just realized another smaller less significant answer.  I think it was season 3 that Locke said something to the effect of "I looked into the heart of this island and what I saw was beautiful."  Locke found the cave of light!

As some people stated some where else, I don't think that M.I.B = smokey.

Smokey is "evil incarnated". It is a visible form of 'badness'/evil. So I don't think evil is human ...

That makes sense, but why does it want to leave the island if it's not Jacob's brother? >.<

Quoting Jack "What if it's afraid of what happens if we stay?"  Smokey doesn't want to leave the island, he wants everyone ELSE to leave, kinda sad that Jack is the only one that want's/feels the need to stay.  That puts a big ole target on the good doctor.

Episode 6x14 / Re: MIB's real name is
« on: May 12, 2010, 03:19:16 PM »
Is it a spoiler to post a rumour that gives away NO information?  I only ask because I read somewhere that we will get the MIB's backstory but we will never actually learn his name.  I can't imagine why they would do this, but I guess we'll see for ourselves in a few hours!

MIB's name is not important,  I've posted this in a couple thread's now but the MIB that we know is not a person and never was.  It is a pillar of black smoke that can take the form of the dead and Jacob's brother was the first it claimed.  It would be interesting to find out what Jacob's brother's name was, but not necessary.

It seems to me that MIB doesn't have a name at all.  And also that MIB was apparently telling the truth when he said Jacob took his body and trapped him on the island.  And that his mom was crazy.  I'm not sure if her intentions were ultimately good or bad, but I'd call my mom crazy if she killed my birth mom, killed my "people," and tried to kill me.  Although, looking back on it, she probably just wanted to knock him out and bury the "well."  Now I have to wonder how she accomplished such a feat.  And we now know what MIB means when he says he wants to go home and understand his motivation behind it.  And I think it's clear why MIB seems to be indestructible and why Jacob could be killed.  And apparently "ghosts" have appeared on the island for a long time.

This statement is incorrect.  We know that Jacob's brother wanted off the island because of the revelation that he had come from across the sea, somewhere he always wanted to go even before his mother lied and said there was nothing else.

Exit Jacob's brother stage right and enter Smokey, who uses the body that was given to it during his release.  Jacob's brother and the smoke monster are NOT, repeat NOT one and the same.

Everything that MIB has said to our losties is nothing but a lie to meet his own ends.  Those ends were revealed last week in the form of destroying everyone on the island, NOT to leave the island.  It uses that as a ruse to garner apathy and trust in it's favor.

I think this was the biggest reveal in this episode.  Jacob's brother's body was laid to rest with his "mother's".  Smokey never was a person, smokey never had a crazy mother, smokey does not want to leave the island.

Episode 6x14 / Re: We have a Winner (IMHO)
« on: May 12, 2010, 02:59:18 PM »
I'm really uncomfortable with the morality scale...I feel like I'm in a game of "He said - She said."
Yes, MIB killed his mother, but she had just killed ALL of his family and bashed his head up against the rock wall. She lied to him. She took away his free choice (by keeping his origins from him). She "did something" that made it impossible for him to leave the island.

Obviously, it is wrong to kill your mother.

But Jacob was MORE wrong forcing him out of his body like that. Jacob's motive was purely negative - he was extremely jealous of MIB.

Neither Jacob or MIB are good or evil. I've always felt sympathetic toward MIB, and after last night I feel even more so. He is definitely the one who was wronged.

Rant aside, I think that "the light source" taking away MIB's own spark of light makes a lot of sense, leaving only the dark, smokiness -the dusty-carbon part of us all, our animal selves.

Human nature incarnate?

Everything that we learned about Jacob's brother is irrelevant.  He is not the same as MIB.  MIB is smokey.

Jacob's brother died when he went down that hole, it's been the black smoke ever since... I wonder if Jacob knows about smokey's body snatching abilities.  I would think he does being that he laid his brother and "mother" to rest.  What interests me is that this black smoke seems to latch on to those who claim to be "special" as Jacob's bro and Locke both claimed.  Not sure if that is significant though.

The one thing I take from this episode is that this smoke thing is evil.  He claims he wants off the island but not in the same context that Jacob's brother wanted off.

so these guys took off to blow up the plane.  Where are they?  Have they been hiding and watching everything?

I bet they've meet up with the newly freed Desmond... only my theory but Des ain't at the bottom of that well anymore i think.

Episode 6x12 / Re: Who is the Last Recruit?
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:15:24 PM »
With all due respect Jack is the last recruit for MIB.  Ilana said MIB was recruiting pretty much start of this season.  Sawyer was one of his recruits.

With respect to characters mythology we got a big answer MIB was using Christians body he admited to that and Claire also admited it.
That was something we have been debating for 6 years ::) ;D

So you just take him at his word?  If this guy was standing in front of you and you had full knowledge of what he is would you believe a single word he said?  I think we are being led astray just as much as the characters.  I know the pacing seems kind of slow in ramping up to the end but a lot can happen in the next 5 hours.

Episode 6x12 / Re: Christian
« on: April 23, 2010, 03:04:53 PM »
It is possible that all of the cantidates have the ability to see and speak to the dead, but for whatever reason, Hurley is the only one that has taken the initiative with it. I mean, this could account for the off island viewings of Jacks father and what have you. I mean when Jack saw his dad in the waiting room of the doctor's office, Christian looked a little surprised that Jack was looking at him and talking to him. Maybe Christian was just following his son around to make sure he was okay, and all of a sudden, Jack can see him??

Since MIB was able to appear as Alex  to Ben and was telling Ben to do whatever Locke told him then Illana was wrong. He can appear in other forms after taking Locke's body.

Wait a minute...Jacob dying is what solidified MIB in Lockes form.  Did I not hear someone say this or am I just making this up?  This is how I always justified it in my head.

We've never been officially told why Locke is stuck as Locke, so you might have heard someone say that this is their theory, but this was never told to us by the show.

This is great someone totally shot down my theory of their being a third unseen player in all this.  It was so blatant when MiB walked passed locks beached body yet we don't know why Christians body was never found.  As far as the series being wrapped up so believe everything thats told to us, I don't buy it.  MiB is clearly out for himself and Jack's line before he jumped ship really hit home.

"What if he's afraid of what happens if we stay"

Episode 6x11 / Re: Who is the young boy???
« on: April 14, 2010, 02:51:14 PM »
The kid is neither smokey or Jacob... he is whatever/whoever Christian is/was.  We know Christians body was "taken" but it couldn't be taken by smokey, he only gets one form and lockes dead body still persists.  Jacob doesn't dabble in the business of body snatching, so that leaves an unnamed entity we know little about.  Claire confirmed also that her "father" and locke were not one in the same.  I like bob's idea for sure, its something/someone to do with the island itself.

Episode 6x09 / Re: Do Jacob Or MIB "Hate Technology"?
« on: April 02, 2010, 02:04:44 PM »
Abaddons Key, you may have a point there, there are numerous debates about whether MIB was Christian or if it was Jacob instead or both.  Or maybe he was just himself and neither of them.  Certainly if MIB can't cross water as Smokey and can't get off the island, he couldn't have appeared to Michael on the freighter or Jack at the hospital.  So, maybe there is hope for the whole cabin explanation.  While I doubt they'll be introducing someone knew as the inhabitant, if they unveil Christian as having been his own spirit separate from the others, that may open the door for a quick explanation.

We'd still have to know why Christian would "hate technology", though lol.
He would hate it because just like unlocke... he really isn't christian, only his physical form.  The being/entity that may exist as Christian is the one that hates technology.  Who that would be exactly I couldn't begin to guess.

The more I think about how Dharma refers to smokey as Cerberus really has me thinking that there is a third entity.  This is also supported by Locke when he claims "I've looked into the eye of this island. And what I saw was beautiful."  It wasn't Jacob he saw, Jacob said as much when he said to Richard why should I get involved.  It wasn't smokey cause he's black and disturbing to look upon,  so who/what was it the John actually saw?

quick edit:  Maybe there is more to Ricardo then we know and have been shown to this point.  That certainly would explain how he gets around the island so swiftly.  I could be way off here though.

Episode 6x09 / Re: Do Jacob Or MIB "Hate Technology"?
« on: April 02, 2010, 12:28:11 PM »
The ash at the cabin could have been to keep MIB in, but it seemed kind of understood that the smoke was flying at regular intervals around the island, so I think it was more likely that the ash was to keep him OUT and keep whoever was in the cabin safe.  On the other hand, if jacob was in the cabin, he didn't need to be kept safe from Smokey, so I don't know.  Again, this and the technology question may never be answered.  Would be nice, though if it was.  :-\

Mayhaps a third undefined entity we have yet to learn about??

edit: maybe he has been defined... maybe thats who/what christian shephard is?

Episode 6x08 / Re: Black Rock
« on: March 30, 2010, 02:20:43 PM »
Well it must have been quite a voyage.  If the ship picked up Richard in the Canary Islands (which are in the Atlantic just off the northwest coast of Africa) they made a hell of a trip around the horn of Africa and out into the Pacific

I'm with you, if the black Rock was going to America, it was very ''LOST''

Just like their flight 815 was 3 hours off course or something around that number.  That was given by the pilot in the... well the pilot :)

Episode 6x08 / Re: sideways time line confusion
« on: March 29, 2010, 02:24:56 PM »
I'm a bit confused.......,maybe I'm missing something??

Sideways Sawyer is a cop. Crash Sawyer was originally on 815 because he was being deported after being arrested in a bar after a fight (if I remember rightly). Does this mean that he never went to Australia at that point and went later after he became a cop??

Also where does Jacks son come from? Did he stay with his wife, cause I thought she left him for someone else cause Jack was never there.

Can someone explain??..... ???

I believe the "flash sideways" portray the lives of these characters if Jacob had not interfered in their lives (or MIB doesn't exists anymore).  Thus Jack has a son, Des was on the plane instead of the island, Hurley is lucky, Sayid at least TRIES to do good and be right, Kate is still on the run but I believe I read somewhere on these boards that she is wrongly accused in this timeline, Locke is married and has a relationship of sorts with his father and also could have ended up in the wheel chair in a completely different way then what we were shown.

It has been 27 years since they blew the bomb up on the island.  The flashbacks we have been shown of the characters in the previous seasons are inconsequential in this alternate time-line.
