Episode 3x18 / Re: On This Island, Wounds Are A Bit Different....
« on: April 26, 2007, 12:34:01 AM »
WHen you are dead you stay dead. Patchy was never dead.
True. But what about the Boone thing? Jack was working on him for a really long time.  Many, many hours, even stretching into 2 days if I recall (it's been a while since I watched season 1).  So why didn't he get better faster? Does it have something to do with stabilizing the injury before it can heal maybe?

I see four big-picture possibilities w/multitudes of variations:
> Conspiracy theory: Someone had the resources to "fake" a plane crash
> Sci-fi theory: Island's unique electromagnetic properties bend the laws of time and space and allow for parallell realities and the ability to travel between them.
> Spiritual theory: The island is some kind of Limbo or Purgatory (and yes, I know TPTB said it's not Purgatory but I think we have to seriously consider that we can't trust a single thing they've said about this show ever).
> The simplest theory: Naomi is lying
Yeah, I guess you are right that she could simply be lying. An Other plant of some sort.  But WHY would the Others benefit from the castaways thinking they might be dead and/or that nobody would be looking for them anymore?  I think they had pretty much given up hope of being rescued...until Naomi showed up.  It's hard to imagine what would be gained from this rouse.  It's not as if the Others can expect the castaways to simply give up trying to leave and see for themsevles if they can get home.  So what then?

I remember way back in season 1 a lot of people were guessing that the Island was some sort of Purgetory and the writers actually came out and explicitly said that this was incorrect.  Didn't they even go as far as to say "They're all alive"?

Just trying to make sure because that final scene sure seems to make you think of the Purgatory idea.  I suppose it's possible the Others somehow were able to plant a dummy 747, but that's a little outlandish.  I guess the Others could have somehow gotten whoever was searching for the plane to lie about finding it?

The group may not have known, but what about Ben?  Claire is the only one that we've seen actually urged to be on the flight.  Ben's comment that "maybe there's a pregnant woman" seemed a little smug to me.
Yeah. We now know that it wasn't public knowledge amongst the Others that something would happen. But that doesn't mean Ben didn't know and/or cause it.

Yeah, you need to flush out your point.  Her immediate conflict with Ben got resolved by seeing her sister alive and well, and beyond that, we don't know enough about what they're doing on the island to fully understand why she and the rest of the Others are so committed to the cause, but it is clear that their commitment is very very strong.

Episode 3x16 / Re: Cancer on the Island
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:15:57 AM »
We still do not know if it was cancer. Jack told Juliet to have it tested. We do not know the results.
This is exactly what I was going to ask. Do we KNOW it was cancer?  I guess not.

Is it really 'changed'? After Swan imploded, they said the sattalites went down and everything stopped working.  All that stuff we saw stopped functioning.

Episode 3x16 / Re: The Losties are Fools!!!!
« on: April 12, 2007, 12:04:07 AM »
I'll admit that I was fooled. It was always a possibility that this was an Others ploy, but I guessed she was legit.  I suppose the reason they (the writers) gave that secret away so easily is that Juliet is going to start having some sort of dilemma about whether to follow through on Ben's orders or not.

Doubt there's much to see, but we did get a close up of the gas grenade and there was writing on it.  May be worth a screen shot.

the numbers on the security is: 1 - 6 - 2 - 3
Not sure those are the only ones, but they were definitely the final 4.

Episode 3x15 / Re: Locke's Behavior!
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:34:18 AM »
It's not like him to abandon his friends like that.
They must be doing something awfully important.
I'm actually not sure of that.  Locke's allegiance to the castaways has always been somewhat suspect. He's always shown signs of being largely in it for himself at certain key moments. Or, at the very least, he is more than willing to be deceptive and secretive when he thinks doing so will do some good...even if it does that good at the expense of other people who should be his friends.

Locke doesn't seem to be too frazzled about his encounter with Daddy.  In addition, he doesn't seem so intent on criticizing the Other's for their worldly ways.  Instead, he seems at peace and at home when he leaves.
There is definitely a key chunk of storyline to fill in regarding that encounter.  Obviously some hours passed between that initial encounter we saw two weeks ago and his coming in to take to Kate.  At some point I'm sure we'll learn what happened.  May be a few weeks though.

Episode 3x15 / Re: What with the flahing lights??
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:23:27 AM »
Was I the only one who was just waiting for the writers to pull out the 'the smoke monster scrambled Juliet's memory so she can't tell the castaways any details' plot twist?

Thank God that didn't happen. Would have been lame.  I like the idea of it scanning her fears.

Episode 3x15 / Re: Why is it all Kate's fault?
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:21:52 AM »
I think the point was nothing more than Kate's persistence set in motion the series of events that led to everything getting fouled up.  Bringing Locke and his wildly unpredictable behavior into the equation was a recipe for disaster, and disaster is what happened (at least from Juliet and Jack's perspective).

Episode 3x15 / Re: Sawyer... Baby Daddy
« on: April 05, 2007, 01:20:17 AM »
Whats the significance of us knowing that Sawyer is a baby daddy? She never actually gave his name...
We've known this for a long time. Remember when he was conning that guy when in prison and he had them give the money to his kid? (or something pretty much like that).  Same kid.
