Episode 6x05 / Re: Is "LOST", Lost?
« on: March 03, 2010, 07:20:52 PM »
I have to agree and disagree.  First of all, the hyped up commercials are just that - Hype.  This is not exactly new to any form of advertising, as a matter of fact, I think it is the definition of advertising!  So - are we going to be spoon fed answers to each and every question, mystery, theory, guess?  God, I hope not!  For me, NOT being spoon fed has been one of the best things about this series.

Lost has always left gaps for us to fill with our own imaginations.  In that vein, we each have been free to enjoy the show at whatever level we chose.  While there are some people who could now write a dissertation on Egyptian Hieroglyphics, there are just as many others that watch to see Kate in tight jeans or Sawyer shirtless.   That being said, I think everyone wants connections!  How do all these seemingly unrelated things meld together?

I have faith that there will be connections that are effective and - dare I say, believable when all is said and done.  My thoughts go back to the much maligned Expose' episode in which simple and nearly ignored moments became much cleared when viewed from a different perspective - that of Nikki and Paulo.  (Ok Ok, I know.. I said it.)  But before you vomit, the flashes sideways are doing a very similar thing.  They are providing a completely different perspective of the characters that we know and love.  One without the influences of Jacob, Dharma or the island - ever.  And we have seen that they are indeed intrinsically different people.

So, has this season started off with a HUGE bang?  No.  Has there been a single, "Holy Mother of GOD!" moment - like the whole island going "bloop" and vanishing?  No.  Are there going to be?  I feel pretty secure in saying yes.

I guess Miles was confused in this episode cause he "talked" to Sayid after he died and then - poof - he walks around again. And Miles is like "wtf, he was dead, he talked to me and now he is walking around again??"

I think it is the exact opposite. Miles was confused because he was unable to see/talk to Sayid.  He was surprised when Dogan said that Sayid was dead.  Now he is trying to pump him for information about where he went when he was "dead" because it wasn't anywhere that Miles has seen/heard of before.

Episode 6x02 / Re: Who's the real leader?
« on: February 10, 2010, 02:35:03 PM »
There seems to be a "political leader" - like Ben and Locke, who is assisted by Richard.  I get the impression that these are the others that took over dharmaville and were responsible for contact with the outside world.  Dogan, on the other hand seems to be more of a "spiritual leader", who is assisted by Lennon.  The barefooted "others" reside in the temple complex and were those who were seen by Jin and Eko walking through the jungle in "...and found".  This explains why we only saw the children and Cindy at the Hydra station once.  However, I think that all of the "others" brought to the island by some mechanism controlled by Jacob and MIB.

Episode 6x02 / Re: Seems like Sawyer would have dug up Juliet by now

Miracle Max: It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive. With all dead, well, with all dead there's usually only one thing you can do.
Inigo Montoya: What's that?
Miracle Max: Go through his clothes and look for loose change.

Sorry - Channeling my inner "Princess Bride"

But she may've somehow been taken to the spring some other time, and the "re-animation/infection" effects don't kick in until you actually die.

Admittedly that feels like reaching, though...

Perhaps... she had contact with the spring BEFORE she died via rocket to the house. We don't knwo what Ethan was injecting her with....

I kinda like this idea!

This could just be a continuity error, but it is a helluva error if it is!

Episode 6x01 / Re: They changed the past!
« on: February 03, 2010, 02:03:32 AM »
It seems like something more fundamental changed other than just there is no island to crash on.  As Jumbo said - there are differences in the characters who were on board 815 pre-jughead and those who are were on board this time.  Shannon was not on the plane, so Boone did not have to "rescue" her like he had done in the past.  Hurley was not living his life guided by evil numbers.  Sawyer offered useful advice to Hurley rather than trying to take him for everything he had.  Jack even showed FAITH of all things by saying that nothing is irreversible.

Somethings remain unchanged.  Locke is still in a wheelchair - but either a) lied about going on a "walkabout" or b) found a handicapped accessible one.   Kate still runs.  Sayid still is in love with Nadia.   Christian is still in the "whereabouts unknown" category...

Episode 6x01 / Re: Ash Ring
« on: February 03, 2010, 01:23:17 AM »
Maybe Smokie is an entity that can be controlled by either Jacob OR MIB.  Perhaps it really is a security system that was to keep them from breaking the "rules".

We are making assumptions about good and evil, right and wrong, black and white that are never good on Lost - where everything is shades of gray.  The ash ring could very well serve to both protect and imprison.

Episode 6x01 / Re: Two timelines at once?
« on: February 03, 2010, 01:03:45 AM »
Sorry LB, I have to disagree, there are two timelines. The jughead went off, sent the losties back to the time line where the plane does not crash. It also changed some people's lives. Eko and Shannon not being on the plane but Desmond is on the plane. It also sunk the island. Then there is the 2009 time line where they are on the island.

I have to agree with Juggy.

Episode 6x01 / Re: What was the signficance of the "dirty water?"
« on: February 03, 2010, 01:00:12 AM »
I think dead Jacob took Sayid's body.

I think that is what we are supposed to think.... The difference being MIB looked like a Locke, walked like a Locke and quacked like a Locke, but Locke was still a pile of bones in the silver box; much like Jacob seemed to be emulating Christian and not using his body.  However, maybe MIB's loophole changed the "you can pretend to be them, but not take over a dead one" rule and allows Jacob to actually inhabit Sayid.

Hippie dude actor is John Hawkes.  He has done lots of movies and TV.  He was in Deadwood and A Perfect Storm.

i read the article.  didn't get anything about multiple timelines.  just that they hoped we(the audience) would be able to understand what was going on.

well of course they didn't say they were going to do multiple timelines
they wouldn't give that away in a preseason interview
but they did say they were going to do something different than flashbacks/flashfowards
something that would be difficult for the audience to understand

Flashes Sideways?   ;)
