OK, here's another "TV Guide" tidbit, from the May 11-17 issue, in an article written by William Keck:
Now their (Ben's and Locke's) feuding reaches a climax in Lost's last-ever season cliffhanger, as Ben is forced, at Locke's request, to make a sacrifice so monumental that "it lands on Ben like a rock and cuts him to the core," says Michael Emerson.
Now, if I understand correctly, Keck gets to preview episodes, right? So he may've seen this already? Does anybody besides me think Keck and Emerson are slyly, silently screaming to us that the Statue is going to fall over on top of Ben and smoosh him? Look at the word choices -- "monumental"... "like a rock"... "cuts to the core."
So therefore "What lies in the shadow of the Statue?" could possibly be the body of Ben Linus...
I know... I know. He's too major of a character to be gone before the last season. I think so too. But, wow, this could be a fun cliffhanger!
The article finishes up with Emerson saying "I'm in a scene that you'll want to see the next beat of. Something is left hanging. The audience is going to be left wondering who will be on this program next season."
"That's a good tease," says Cuse, commending Emerson as "a very well-spoken actor." To which Lindelof adds (facetiously -- we think), "Who must now be killed."
Maybe Ben is the "something left hanging" -- literally. Maybe he'll be dangling off the side of the Statue when it topples over and we won't know if it smooshes him or not?
Or maybe the Statue won't fall yet at all -- who knows? But there is definitely going to be something going on about the Statue in the final episode, because last week's "TV Guide" had TPTB telling us that we're finally going to see the face of the Statue in the finale. This is going to be soooo fun...
