Episode 3x11 / How did Locke know that 3:05 was a compass bearing?
« on: March 08, 2007, 01:52:12 PM »
This confused me. Everyone thought what Locke was focusing on was "Lift up your eyes and look North", when in reality, he was ALSO considering 3:05, not as the Bible scripture, but as a compass direction.  Clever, but just really "out there".

And was there any tie in to "compass bearing 325"?

Locke is definitely a wild card lately.  I saw a few theories that he blew up the Flame on purpose, knowing what 77 would do... and I'm starting to believe them.

Episode 3x07 / Miami - first Kate, now Juliet?
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:29:57 AM »
That's got to be a connection.  Kate was there with Kevin Callis, and now Juliet worked there.  Also, Sawyer wasn't very far away in Tallahassee and pulling the Tampa job.

Episode 3x07 / Apollo on the side of the bus
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:13:35 AM »
Hoping someone can get a screencap of this, but there was an Apollo Candy ad on the side of the bus that killed Edmund Burke.

LOST Talk / "Lost Survivor Guide" showing NOW (before tonight) on
« on: February 07, 2007, 01:50:54 PM »
Hey guys, just a public service announcement for the impatient, like me....

The clip/recap show "Lost Survivor Guide" is now on the site:

(I saw about half of it... don't expect anything too spectacularly revealing/spoilerish, it's pretty typical of recaps, and doesn't add much for people who are devout fans like us.  But Damon and Carlton do narrate, and if you are bored, it's something to do before tonight...)

Found this today... and just had to share it... it's really funny

LOST Talk / MOVED: Lost Moment 6
« on: January 26, 2007, 10:53:13 AM »
This topic has been moved to General Spoiler Talk.

It contains a pretty major spoiler about next season (though most of the regulars on this site like spoilers, not everyone who visits the site wants to stumble on them by accident)

LOST References (Books, Movies and Music) / Magnolia (movie!)
« on: January 25, 2007, 11:45:40 PM »
Wow, I just saw this film.  Excellent, IMHO.  And a lot of similarities to Lost.

Firstly, the whole thing is about unexplained connections between people.  Much like Pulp Fiction or Crash, it's the interwoven tale of many stories...except some of the connections are stranger in this one.

Also, I was confused at the end and went online to understand get more analysis on it, and found a wealth of info.  One of the other similarities to Lost (which I didn't notice as I watched Magnolia the first time) was that there are repeated Easter Eggs of the numbers 8 and 2.  By the end of the story, we are supposed to realize that this is a biblical reference to Exodus 8:2 (I won't give away why here).

PS:  Other things in common I just noticed--April Grace, actress who plays Ms. Klugh, plays the interviewer!!  Also, the movie is ALL about father issues. Great story.

Has anyone here seen the movie?

I can't take credit for this theory I originally saw on Lostpedia, posted by Znch.  But I think it's great, so thought I would pass this on.  This is the newest "Lost Moment" video clip, of Vincent finding a mummified arm holding keys:

In the "French transmission", Danielle said "Brennan took the keys".  Is this the arm of her former research vessel crewmate?

Community Lounge / Secret Survivor stuff
« on: January 16, 2007, 11:34:51 PM »

1)   Immunity this round for their character - 65
2)   The next HII clue (plus the previous clues) - 27
3)   Mystery Box A - 84
4)   Mystery Box B - 49

Mystery Box A = Immunity next round
Mystery Box B = A fish biscuit

Well, now that we have just wrapped up an amazing Amazing Race, we still have a few weeks left to wittle away until S3 starts up again.  I thought it suiting to follow with Lost Survivor.

The idea is stolen borrowed from a dorky rival friend of mine, vonnegut. Well, mine will still be slightly different (and obviously, better :P). Special thanks also to Fancy Monkey for some of these ideas.

For the purposes of this game, we will start off with these 20 islanders:

(The actual final tribal council & "reunion show" starts with THIS POST).

JEFF: Hello everyone, thank you for joining us tonight.  Well, the votes are in, so that means we will reveal them "live"…

[With that, Jeff takes the vote container, steps into an all-terrain vehicle and sloshes through the jungle, gets out, puts on a helmet, gets on a motorcycle, runs full-speed off the Pala Ferry dock and ends up jumping over water to land him on a yacht that was idling in the bay....]

[...This speeds away from the coast; a helicopter hovers overhead and lets out a rope ladder, which he climbs; the helo whisks him away to L.A.  He gets out in front of Mann's Chinese Theater, enters to a roaring crowd of thousands of fans, each cheering Hurley or Locke's name.  Locke and Hurley are sitting on stage anxiously.  Both are surprisingly clean-shaven and well-dressed.  Behind them is a row of equally glamorous jury members, who have all recently been reunited.]

JEFF: With that, we have the final votes:

[Jeff opens up the vote jar…]

Sawyer's guardian's vote
My reason for voting for Hurley is
that he pulled his own weight througout the whole game and never even needed to use the IDOL
Plus he is sooooooo darn likeable Dude!
Danielle's guardian's vote
I vote for Locke to win it.
Alex's guardian's vote
Hurley (Michelle) to win this survivor and for Locke to lose.
Eko's guardian's vote
I vote for Locke to win.

[…everyone is on the edge of their seats to hear the final votes. The suspenseful silence is pierced by Sawyer giving a satisfied belch.  He and Desmond seem to be enjoying the free alcohol and mini-wiener-tots being served. Jeff continues…]

Desmond's guardian's vote
Michelle brought me back from the dead.  No one else has ever done that for me.
I vote Hurley to win.
Sun's guardian's vote
Official vote.... LOCKE
soooooo sorrryyyyyy dude!!!
Charlie's guardian's vote
My vote for winner is Hurley.
Sayid & Juliet's guardians' votes
JEFF: Well, I would have never thought of either Sayid or Juliet as shy wallflowers, but neither of these guys wanted to be the one to cast the "last deciding vote".  They did, but I'll just lump them together, so they aren't identified, and the pressure isn't so great. :P

One said:

"I Hur....No ....>CANT TAKE IT! WHERES MY MEDS???  I VOTE......!?!?!?!?!... LOCKE!"

And one said:

"Ok.. I choose... eeny meeny miney mo....

Uhhhhh.... errrr....

Llllllll Hurley....

Yeah. Hurley should win."

JEFF: Congratulations, big guy! By one vote, you are the ultimate Survivor! [The crowd goes wild, and Hurley nearly passes out]

Congratulations to all of you for a game well-played!!

Now, for the prize ceremony…

Every year, sledge gives out an "Award of Futility" for the player in The Hunt that puts in the most effort for the least reward.  This year on Survivor, the prize goes to E-Rich, who enthusiastically jumped in, but came in late.  Unluckily for her, there were few choices by then, and the first person she guarded was Jack, who surprisingly hadn't had a guardian or many votes up until then.  He was promptly voted out that same round (due to no fault of hers), and she had to jump to Charlie, the last free character, who was immediately voted out the next round.  E, for your efforts (no pun intended), Bernard will build you a modern art sculpture of your choice out of lava rocks!

Every year, Survivor is filled with drama and backstabbing. But the "Most Dramatic Public Scuffle Award" this season will go to JRR and juggy, for keeping us especially entertained. Your reward is a mutual restraining order and the handcuffs that Kate wore!

For our final two, we have some prizes…

Our runner-up prize goes to Ladybug:

The keys to The Galaga!  No, no one knows what it is exactly, including me.  So far as I can tell, it's some sort of bug-looking vehicle they used to model a video game after.  I hope you figure out how to drive it, because I sure can't help you there.

And… our first place winner, Michelle!

ONE MILLION adoring cheers of congratulations, which are much better than DOLLARS!! Don't spend it all in one place!!

Of course we wouldn't actually give "Hurley" a million dollars, that would just be pocket change to someone with 156 million.

RULES (spoiler tagged just to save space):

1) Everyone on the forum will get a chance to vote once per round up until the final 6, for who they want off the island (see rule #8 for more).  The character with the most votes per round will leave the game... meaning you are voting AGAINST someone, not for them.

2) Around once a day, I will tally the votes, and one character will get voted off. I'll try to make this around every 24 hours and give you a time voting closes; but occasionally, it'll go longer.

3) Every forum member can vote only once a round (only your first vote will count if you revote in the same round). Do not vote for more than one character at a time. You do not HAVE to vote every round to keep participating in the game. Do not make a clone account to stuff the ballot box--if I find out, you'll get booted (you can, however, PM otherwise less active members and get them to help you).

4) At any point in the game, any forum member may request by PM to be the secret "guardian" of a character. As there appears to be more characters than active members on the forum, most likely some characters will (at least in the beginning) be guardian-less, and this is fine. This is on a first-come-first-serve basis, so if you request a character already taken, you will have to repick. You do not need to be a guardian to vote.

5) Do NOT say publicly on the forum, "I am ___'s guardian" (that character may instantly get eliminated). However, you may campaign publicly and privately for characters ("____ is so cool! Remember when he beat up Smokey?")--eventually, it may be obvious who is guarding over whom, but just don't say it in so many words in public. You can tell other members by PM who you are guarding over, and form alliances privately. You can also try to misdirect people into thinking you have a character that you don't have later in the game, if you think this is to your advantage.

6) The goal of the game is to be the person who is guarding over the last remaining survivor. If your character gets eliminated, you aren't necessarily out of it, because you can choose another character, so long as he or she is not taken yet (I will never tell people who has what character, just if they are taken or free). You may not try to change characters until yours is eliminated, and no one can have more than one character at a time.  If your character is eliminated and there are none left to guard over, well--sorry. You can still help your friends by voting.

7) I reserve the right to resolve ties by my choice of revote, tally of past cumulative votes, or a PM challenge to the two guardians. I also reserve the right to occasionally add a small twist to the game.

8 ) When the characters get down to final 6, the only people who can vote are people who have once played as "guardians", not just anyone on the forum. <= New rule!

So there you have it. Which of our Losties and Islanders has the stuff to outwit, outplay, outlast the others?

You may start strategizing, or begin voting for your least favorite character now. See the top part of this post for daily updates on voting arrangements and eliminated characters.

MOD EDIT:  A weird popup (may be a glitch, may be a phishing scam) was affecting some of the other early pages of this thread, at one point, which appears to be cleared now. However, if you see it again, report the post immediately.

Forum Feedback / Are people still having problems with avatars?
« on: December 26, 2006, 08:39:06 AM »
Hi... anyone still having problems? I got a few PMs before, and sledge said he looked into it, and the settings should be ok.

I don't think that right now you can upload your avatars to the lost.cubit server, but you can upload them to photobucket or a similar free picture server, and then link them as an URL, with that option.

For those who don't know, an avatar is the little 65x65 pic that displays under your name here on the forum.  You can change it in your user control settings ("Profile" on the top)

<< just changed mine to be Stephen Colbert's Asian friend.
