Episode 3x07 / Run over by a bus???

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but is it a foregone conclusion that Juliet's ex-husband getting run over was coordinated by the recruiters?  Juliet was actually talking to him when it happened, but how could this have logistically happened?

I haven't gotten to watch it again, so if anyone has a link to that clip, please post it, but if I'm remembering everything correctly, I'm having a hard time believing that they got him to step in front of that bus.

I know it seems really obvious that they did coordinate it because of the earlier conversation, etc., but the more I think about this, the more I think I'm either missing something or Juliet's (and everyone else's) memories/flashbacks are inaccurate or fabricated, or the bus thing had to just be a coincidence.

Spoiler Theories and Speculation / Where is Alvar Hanso?

I know this board is "theories and speculation about LOST which are based on spoilers", and just to be cautious I am going to assume that TLE material falls into the "spoilers" category.

Anyway, I know that this probably isn't too much of a stretch, but I haven't seen it posted anywhere else, so here goes:

We have found out in TLE the past few weeks that 1) Alvar Hanso is missing, and 2) Alvar Hanso is sick.  Coupling that together with our knowledge from the show that the island has healing powers and that the island is hidden from most of the outside world, I am going to wager a good guess that Alvar Hanso is actually on the island.

This would be for one or both of the following reasons:

- to be healed by the island

- to hide from Mittelwerk, who is doing things with the Hanso Foundation that Hanso didn't approve of, and Mittelwerk may have been trying to get rid of Hanso to pursue his own end.

Theories & Speculation / Did the Others want Walt off of the island?

Forgive me if this has been posted elsewhere, I looked around a bit and couldn't find it, so here goes:  I've been racking my brain to try to figure out the entire interaction with Michael and the Others.  Of course it began on the raft when they took Walt, and continued when Michael was communicating on the computer terminal in the hatch.  Unless Walt is working with the Others, I really don't think it was him on the other end, especially with the camp under the rock with the hole proven to be a fake camp.

If this is correct, then the Others lured Michael to come to them, but for what purpose?  Initially, they wanted info from him, but with Fenry captured, they needed Michael to get Fenry back.  They knew that Michael would do it just to get Walt back, and I think that the Others actually wanted Walt off of the island - they did say that they got a little more than they bargained for.  Walt was appearing to some of the Losties, and assuming that he was trying to help them, the Others probably didn't like it or he made them nervous for some other reason.  So, what better way to get them off of the island than to get Michael to be hated by his fellow 815 survivors so he couldn't go back, and then manipulate him to think that they were reluctantly giving up Walt?  I think that Walt will yet be an important character in the overall story.

One more offshoot of this is that I think it is now clear that the Others are/were using the cameras to monitor the Swan Station, either from the Pearl or elsewhere.  They knew Michael was at the terminal, they knew Fenry was there, and perhaps the burning cigarette in the Pearl belonged to one of them...

Episode 2x23 / Magnets... or ELECTRO-Magnets

So I was thinking about some of the info we have on the magnetic force in the hatch:

1. It gets stronger / out of control if the button is not pushed

2. It makes noise


And some common speculation about the magnetic force:

3. Supposedly it is related to the incident

4. It is a force that is contained or discharged by the pushing of the button


I don't know a whole lot about electromagnets, but the one thing I do know is that you need a power source (electricity) to even make them work.  If you shut down the power source, the magnet loses most or all of its magnetic force.  The only natural electrical power sources that I know of are lightning and synapses firing in our nervous system.

So, either the electromagnet gets its power from a man-made power source and it's not really a danger at all, or there is something else at play here.

Anyone know more about physics and electromagnets than I do, or have any theories around the electromagnet?
