Episode 5x14 / Re: Eloise's reasons
« on: April 30, 2009, 04:11:39 AM »
I have a hard time believing any mother would send her son off to be killed by her younger self.  But then again, she had many many years to think about it by this time.

Also realize that Daniel always had that journal with him, the same one we see her giving to him in tonight's episode.  The journal had ALOT of stuff in it, not just calculations, but seemed to have names and dates (likely timelines).  So after Eloise kills Daniel in her own timeline, she has a journal explaining exactly what has lead up to her future son's arrival in the camp at this moment.

I think this episode is really a great demonstration of the Determinism versus Free Choice that the writers have been playing with since the beginning.  We have Eloise on one side who seems to be firmly committed to a certain sequence of events.  She has seen how things will happen (maybe through Dan's journal) and she is resigned to that fate. I think we see it the most when she slaps Widmore for his not understanding the pain/guilt she is in for sending her child to his death.  On the other hand we have Daniel, who is finally convinced that free will and choice can change the timeline.  He even says his mom was wrong.  He not only meant she was wrong in sending them back to the island, but she was wrong in believing that the timeline could not be changed.  Unfortunately for him, he appears to be wrong.

Episode 5x06 / Re: How did they used to get on and off the island?

Here's my theory...  Dharma used the pendulum thing to find the island and then Dharma was able to stop the island from moving.  How...  they used the computer in the Swan to release the electromagnetic energy safely instead of letting it "move the island".  So the original inhabitants know how to get on and off (Privileged info), and once Dharma finds the island with the pendulum, they make it stationary with the Swan station.  Once Locke blows the Swan station, the island begins moving again and the electromagnetic explosion shows up on Widmore's Ukrainian sensors and they now have a base point to restart the pendulum looking for the island.

Ben has definitely been off the island previous to the current timeline (evidenced by the many passports he has), but now that the island is moving he cannot get back on his own knowledge, he needs to depend on Ms. Hawking to get back.  I think this all fits in nicely with the "pockets of electromagnetic energy" that Ms. Hawking mentions as well as the bright flash seen by all when the Swan station went up.

This may also link up to the whole donkey wheel theory.  The Swan station kept the island in place in space while the donkey wheel on it's axis keeps the island in place in time.

Episode 3x20 / A plane on the island??
« on: May 18, 2007, 05:35:32 PM »
I just re-watched Man behind the curtain.  At about the 14th minute (according to ABC's viewer) we hear Roger talking to his friend about the attack from the "hostiles".  During Roger's accounting of events, he says "we were driving back from the plane."   At least I'm pretty sure this is what he says.  Does this have any significance?  Float plane or is/was there a runway somewhere on the island?

Episode 3x05 / Re: Screencap/Investigation Requests for Sledgeweb

Hey Sledge, can we get a screen capture of Juliet holding the signs on the VCR video (particularly the first frame)  and compare it to a screen capture from the beginning of Episode 3x1 when Juliet is hosting the book club.  I think she recorded herself with those cards in her own home (which makes sense privacy wise).  But I also think that she may be wearing the same purple shirt in the cards video and during the book club meeting.  How many shirts has she worn?  It this just her favorite shirt.

Episode 3x05 / The many signs of Juliette

I'm relatively new to the forum, so don't know if this has been addressed yet.  I was freeze-framing through last night's episode where Juliette is on the VCR video and showing the cards to Jack.  On the recorded VCR video, Juliette is recording herself in her own home from 'A Tale of Two Cities' (3x1).  I checked the backgroung in the VCR video and it has the same white columns and candles that we see in episode 3x1.  So we know Juliette recorded herself in what we know as her house in the Others village.  This leads to questions of timeline and of geography.  Maybe Sledge can help me with the timeline, but I sort of assumed that Juliette came into Jack's cell to show him the video soon after the funeral (maybe 6-10 hours).  Does this mean she left from the funeral and went back to the Others village, recorded the video, and returned to the Hydra to show it to Jack in a short period of time?  How far away is the Others Village from the Hydra station?  From the con revealed to Sawyer last week, It seemed like quite a haul and on two different islands.  I also saw that in the VCR video that Juliette appears to be wearing a long-sleaved purple shirt with a plunging neckline.  She is wearing a similar or the same whirt in Episode 3x1.  If it is the same shirt, she either a)wears it a lot or b)recorded the video on the same day that flight 518 fell from the sky.  Is that a little crazy or what.  The production people seem to pay alot of attention to the clothing that every character wears.  (The losties have to have the same clothes for long lengths of time, etc.)  It opens a whole other can of worms if Juliet is videotaping herself with the cards on the same day that the plane falls from the sky.  discuss....
