I'm curious what exactly he meant.

I was thinking that as well.

Does this mean (gasp) Christian may not be dead?

Title: Re: Christian's Eulogy

I still think he's dead. But my foundation for this theory is now based solely on two things: Jack seeing dead Christian in the morgue and the trouble getting the coffin on the plane.
Title: Re: Christian's Eulogy
Post by: JMart on May 16, 2008, 12:17:49 AM
yeah but couldn't he have just been put in a mini coma, and made to look dead to jack in the morgue, much like nikki and paula were by the spider bite?

think about it... then once he's on the plane, cindy helps him out of the casket and they brace themselves/parachute out right before the crash... DUN DUN DUNNNN

I thought he meant he had a lot of practice lying. -- like about him missing his dad and what happened after the crash.

yeah it could mean anything, but i have the feeling it means that he was told to present this eulogy a certain way

or since he was at the Sydney airport (on the Island) he had a lot of time to think about what he would say at the eulogy, or he had literally done it before (time-warp.)

I actually thought that he meant that since he was on the island for so long, he had a lot of time to practice, but the eulogies he gave could be what he meant. One way or the other, let's not bring time warps into this, for the love of god. Something as simple as this doesn't need time warps.

Saying he had a lot of time to practice, obviously is going to be taken by the press and everyone else as him having 108 days on a deserted island to collect his thoughts, we as viewers know how many eulogies he has given on the island.  He may have meant that but I'm sure he knew that everyone would take it as him just having a lot of time to think about it.

I mean, really when has he had a lot of time to think about his father's eulogy on the island??  He's been too busy looking for guns, chasing others, avoiding smoke monsters, rescuing friends, playing doctor, finding abandoned hatches, playing golf, making bad decisions, falling in love with Kate, and annoying Sawyer.

I would agree with this except that what other eulogies?

We know he gave several, but since the plane crashed and only 8 survive, 2 die later I would not say 2 eulogies is alot of practice, would you?

Now seeing another post in this thread, if he said "alot of TIME to practice" That would fly with me.

I too thought he just meant that he had been on an island for 3 months with nothing to do but practice and think about his eulogy to his father.  I think this is what he meant and how everyone else took it.  As far as the world is concerned they were just sitting on an island all alone waiting to be rescued.  That's a lot of time to think about what you want to say at your father's funeral.

Well, Jack said that to Kate in private, so it has to be fan service about the people on the island that died and he gave eulogies for.

I'm pretty sure. On the podium, he said he wrote down what he wrote on a bar napkin, but he couldn't remember it now. I might be wrong, but I don't see the sense in repeating himself. If I remember right, he said it to Kate on the side, and then Claire's mom walked over to talk to Jack.

Yes, he said it privately to Kate, and the way he said it brought to mind all the eulogies he had to say on the island because that task seemed to fall to him. Seemed like what he was saying was something like, "unfortunately, as we both know, we've been through a lot of sh*t and a lot of our friends have died on that island...and you're the only one that knows how sad I am about that."

Nobody has mentioned this yet, so I will.  When Jack was delivering the eulogy he said it was about ten months ago that he was sitting in Sydney airport thinking about what he would say at Christian's funeral.  Christian died in September of the previous year, so the funeral must have been in July.  Why wait so long to have the service?
Title: Re: Christian's Eulogy

Yeah, I wondered about that too. At first I thought maybe there's more time than we think before they all get on the C-130, but that doesn't square very well with Aaron's cover up age. Plus I think they talked about day 108 as the day they arrived on the inhabited Island, so it sounds like they waited almost seven more months... Add it to the list of mysteries.

I think that Jack is referring to the eulogies on the island, but as far as those who buy the cover story are concerned, perhaps he had to give some eulogies at the funerals of other "dead" 815ers?  ...as someone who was with them when they died?  Just a thought...

Ummmm, because they were trapped on a mysterious island?? But seriously. Probably so much B.S. they had to deal with after getting home with Lawyers, and television reporters, newspapers, etc. Probably figured it would make more sense to wait until after everything cooled off for the most part. I don't see anything suspicious about it, do you??

They were trapped on a desert island for about 108 days, so they were rescued about Jan 7, 2005.  Christian's service was about six months after the rescue.  I think it's very odd.  You don't need a body to have a memorial service.  Like I said, why wait so long?

Claire eulogized the dead when they burned the bodies.  (Jack said funerals aren't his "thing".)

Hurley eulogized Scott.

Sayid delivered Boone's eulogy, and later Shannon's.  After Sayid gave the eulogy for Shannon, Jack stepped up to the edge of the grave and threw in a fistful of sand, saying "May she rest in peace."

Jack eulogized Ana-Lucia.

Hurley eulogized Libby.

Locke eulogized Eko.

Hurley delivered Nikki and Paulo's eulogies.

If I remember correctly they said a few words for her and then pushed her out to sea. Jack was stsnding in the background and Juliet walks up to Jack and he asks what's going on. Not sure if they set her on fire?

I took it as that he had alot of practice on what to say at his father's funeral. He planned it after he knew his father was dead up until the crash.
Plus all the time he had after they came back from the island and he knew he'd finally have a funeral.

Jack always has a plan, and thinks things through. Of course, his plans are always doomed to failure.
