Title: FF timeline
Post by: LostAndSeek on May 02, 2008, 09:31:51 PM
So, I think the FFs go like this:

1. Ji Yeong. Summer, 2005. Sun has baby, Hurley is sane.
2. The Shape. Mostly in October of 2005. Maybe swap this with (3)?
3. Season premiere. Hurley starts seeing Charlie, Jack is confident, living alone.
4. Kate's trial. Jack is a tad less confident. Aaron appears to be about 2. Late 2006?
5. The Economist. Could go earlier or later....
6. Something Nice. August, 2007. After Kate's trial. Hurley is nuts, reserving a room for Jack. Jack starts skid.
7. Looking Glass. Early 2008? We have to go baaaaack.

i concur as well.

my only addition would be that the looking glass could even be later.  2009, or even 2010 series end.

I really, really hope not.  Their return to the island has got to be the theme of Season Six.  That wasn't a spoiler, just a story-arc guess.

Just think, if/when they do go back to the Island, years will have passed.  Look back to what's happened in just 3+ months to the Losties, to the Others.  At the rate which people have been dying, no way that more than one or two Rousseau clones will be left, hunkered down on opposite sides of the island, spending their days building traps for the other, Spy.vs.Spy-like.

i hope so.  i want jack to make it back after his "we have to go baaaaaaaaaacckkkkk!!"  i want to see the story come to a happy ending (well, not happy neccissarily, but an ending).  i want the story to be complete when it is over.  all tied up in a pretty box, all questions answered, etc. etc.

So, what will you do if it ends like Twin Peaks, with Agent Cooper's doppleganger babbling to its bloody self, with an innocent Annie waiting outside the bathroom for what she thinks is her true love? Or fades to black, with the jackals eyeing our heroes from close quarters, as in The Sopranos?

It won't.  To make things very simple, think more of how Star Wars or even Indiana Jones solves its plots.  Major challenges and struggle, victory (tainted with profound loss) for its heroes.  This is not a nihilistic story.  It's more classical.

I think this is right, but I want to propose one reason for switching 6 and 7.  In this week's flash, Kate says the following to Jack right after they put Aaron to bed:

"Yeah. Just, I... I love seeing you with him. I'm so glad you changed your mind."  Jack then talks positively about his father, so it is clear Kate is admiring Jack's parenting of Aaron.

If "changing your mind" refers to bearded Jack's adamant refusal to have anything to do with Aaron, then Looking Glass precedes Something Nice, not follows it.

If Looking Glass follows Something Nice, as you say, then we will still have to see an earlier Jack who doesn't want to see Aaron.

Good point.  But I think the key to placing the two episodes is the point about being on the island.  4x10 Jack wants nothing to do with the mystery he left behind.  3x22 Jack is ready to face the music, after losing Kate and Aaron.  He knows by then that he IS NOT worthy of them.  The island is his possibility for being the person they and he need him to be.

JP, I think the line from Kate about Jack not wanting to deal with Aaron was in Kate's trial episode, not in the Looking Glass.

i don't think it will end that way.  maybe not really a pretty little box with everyone happily ever after, but it will have a definite ending.  tptb have strung us along long enough, they will show us the end.  they are already wrapping up the story, by the end it will all be wrapped up.

You're right LostandSeek.  I checked the transcript of "Eggtown" on Lostpedia.  The lines are:

"KATE: I know why you don't want to see the baby, Jack. But until you do...until you want to, there's no you and me going for coffee. But um...if at anytime you change your mind, come and see us.

JACK: Yeah. Okay."

That settles it for me.  The flash forward from "Looking Glass" definitely occurs after the flash forward from "Something Nice Back Home".

One day in the not too distant future, Bernard will have a flash forward.
He'll be wearing a fake beard as he tells someone "This is our island."

Except the writers said in an interview that the final season's story would be about what happens once they get baaaack to the island.  I think there is plenty more beyond the night Kate and Jack meet at the airport with his terrible beard.

Yeah, I'm convinced most or all of the O6 will go back. If not next season then the beginning of the last season for sure.

I figure next season we will get to see the Oceanic 6 off the island and the people that stayed on the island.

Last episode of the season will be the 6 coming back to the island somehow.  Or trying to come back and us not knowing if they make it or not.

Could well be, Crazy, but alternatively S6 could start with them returning to the Island, with flashbacks to what happened on the Island while they were gone and to the preparations off the Island for the return.

I fear we'll have to wait the time it takes to make a full term baby to find out!!

That confused me when I heard Kate say that to jack about her being glad he changed his mind. In the epi where Kate has her trial she said I hope you change your mind. then in something nice back home she says I'm glad you changed your  mind. Which led me to believe this happend after her trial. Which didn't make sense to me because I thought we were going back in yrs .  I didn't think we were jumping around.

I agree but how will they get back to the island if it's invisible?  Jack has been flying all over waiting for the plane to crash land on the island with no luck.  Are they going to be teleported back to the island in 2010?  It will be cool to see how they figure this one out.

I dunno, but I'll bet a $1.50 that they figure it out.

Mrs. Hume, there's never been a reason to believe we'd get the FFs in reverse chronological order. It was just a cool idea somebody on here had early on.

TPTB said part of the fun behind the scenes (meaning for us) would be trying to figure out where the FFWs go in time. I think that this guess is pretty accurate. Of course, dates are not known.

Thanks for clearing things up for me. I really thought up until late that all was in order. It SEEMED like it was anyway. I had thought that tptb said in a podcast that they weren't going to do that but it must have been about the ff and fb not being in the same episode or something else.

However, Jin's and Sun's episode had a flashback/flashforward in the same episode.

No problem...just never believe what the producers say they'll never do or will do in an ep.

I beleive that somewhere they said that next season is about what happens to them all after the O6 got off the island, and the final is what happens when they return. But I guess we'll just havbe to see.

I would really love it if the series finale for lost is as good as the finale for six feet under. The best series finale ever in history! Every thing tied up in a neat little bow. In a show like lost that is the way I would want it. Nothing left to the imagination. Like sopranos. Can you imagine, they get back to the island and boom, black screen!!?!

It was good.  Both my sons beat it before I played, so that was a bummer.  The ending was hopefully not what will happen on the show.  Good game though.  Great interactions and quest kinda stuff.

Hopefully it won't be like Via Domus. I'm afraid to ask...

The game was great, don't get me wrong.  I'm a wicked hardcore Lost fan and the ending was just too below my high standards.
