Title: Octagon Global Recruiting?
Post by: MangoBingo on March 16, 2008, 09:40:11 PM
Before I start, I'll just have to tell you that I'm new to all this. I only really got into Lost about two months ago. I've been watching like three or four episodes a night to try and catch up!

Anyway, if this information is old, please forgive me.

The Hanso Foundation's website seems dormant (and fairly innocuous) but there's a hidden audio message.

If you view the page's source, there's nothing untoward; If you try to analyse Alvar Hanso's over-poetic text, there doesn't appear to be any apparent cryptology; Clicking at random over the embedded Flash applet doesn't offer any surprises...

However, if you right-click the embedded Flash and rewind the applet, there's a strange message. I presume it's from Mittelwerk. Also, once the Flash is rewound, the weird symbols at the bottom of the text disappear - and positioning your mouse around the Flash results in swooshing noises, as if there's hidden links.

Sorry if you all knew this already. I just couldn't find anything on the web referencing this.

What's with the background image on the site as well? It looks like a blurred mushroom cloud!

Oh - there is more stuff buried in that Flash. I just clicked on the text and heard another faint voice.

I don't know which specific word I clicked on. Sorry.

Remember to right-click and rewind the Flash applet first.

As I'm new, I'm unsure if this should come under "Spoiler Discussion" or "Official Website Discussion". If this is in the wrong place, just lock the thread.

I finally got to it, and it said basically what the commercial said. It also asked for an email if you were interested in the program. After you enter your email, it says something like "a representative will be in contact with you shortly."

Back in Season 1 or 2, I happened to catch a fake commercial for the Hanso Foundation.  I followed it, and I'm sure many of you have done the same.  If not, the website uncovered many mysteries about the foundation and the weird electromagnetism and whatnot on the island.

During tonight's season finale, I caught another commercial that was very similar to the one for the Hanso Foundation.  The ad said it was "sponsored by ABC" and it gave the web address.  I neglected to write it down, therefore I forgot the address.  It had something to do with "global" and maybe networking... like: ___global___.com or org.

BTW, if you want to check the Hanso website, there's not much left to it.  The address is www.thehansofoundation.org.

Someone, PLEASE tell me you saw the commercial as well??? and that you remember the web address?

The spot before the final act of S4's finale is a commercial for the Dharma Initiative.

I was just recording my DVR episdodes of LOST to DVD, and noticed something:
Have you seen the last commercial before the Season Finale' closed?

Go visit www.OCTAGONGLOBALRECRUITING.com for "Job Opportunities from July 24 - July 27, in San Dieago, CA

This is a false advertizement to join a nonpaid position with the Dharma initiative.

  How Cool!

I do that all the time. I now have all of season 3 and 4 on dvds I made myself so that I have them  at hand until the box set comes out, and so that when my friends want to borrow my copy I don't have to worry about seeing my $50 investment disappear out the door. lol.

it's not too difficult, once you get the hang of it.

honestly I think I just read the instructions that came with the dvd recorder. I'm not that good at winging it. I'm sure the first part is to make sure there is a wire going from "video out" port on the tivo and into the "video in" port on the recorder. Then my recorder has 3 settings, Ext1 means I'm watching a movie, Cam1 means its a feed from separate holes that are on the front of the recorder. So to record I need it to be on Ext2 (your mileage, or settings, may vary) Then I put in the blank dvd, choose the speed (I always set it for 2x so I can get 3 epis on with the commercials edited out). Then I make sure I am watching the tivo/tv and not the dvd. I start the show and hit the record button on the dvd remote. When I get to the commercial I hit pause on the dvd remote, and FF thru the commercials on the tv remote, repeat until the end of the show and then hit stop.... and thats probably more detail than you needed but thats how I do it. lol

Thank you so much!  :D (Never too many details!!!!! ) That sounds easy enough!!!!! I was thinking you did it through the computer. I think that might be harder.

Actually, recording from DVR is very simple (for me)

I hit "Play" on my DVR, and hit "Record" on my DVDRecorder.  (It's a Sony DVD/VCR combo unit.)

The only thing I can't stand about it is that it has a built-in Copyright Protection Dectection, that doesn't allow me to record HBO or certain video tapes to DVD.    :(

well, now that it's all  set up that's what I do too, but I wanted to explain how to make sure it's  set up ...
Title: Re: Octagon Global Recruiting?
Post by: Mrs Hume on June 09, 2008, 03:29:39 PM
I have the opposite combo unit! it's a dvd vcr and it records Cd's to VHS. ha ha. got it about 7 yrs ago. that's like 14 yrs in electronics yrs. lol. So I CAN record dvd's to tape (unless there is a copy write ) but not to dvd. and I can record my tivo shows but only on to VHS. and only in real time so if the show is an hour it will take an hour. ahh. so I thought I would hook my tivo up to my computer and do it that way, but omg it is no very simple. I guess if I really took the time I can do it but I don't know if I want to start messing with stuff I don't know about and get all  frustrated. but I probably should because that is the only way you learn.
Thank you castawaycayley and githyankee for all the info. maybe I'll just borrow yours! (lol)  ;)

The clue in the email is the CC name Hans Van Eeghen
I google searched it and found some interesting tid bits
One of them is a web page that is called: Descendants of Mr. Hugo de Groot (http://[b)  I found some interesting names in here (Jacob was one of them)
Check it out and maybe you will see something that I missed

Another one that I have not had time to look at carefully but may be connected is this one:

 http://www.henokiens.com/index_eeghen_gb.php

Van Eeghen International b.v.
Key dates in the Company's History

1632 The Van Eeghen Group of Companies was set up in 1632, when wool and cloth merchant Christiaen van Eeghen opened a shop in the Netherlands.

1662 In 1662, his son Jacob set up in business in Amsterdam. Thus began the story of what is probably one of the oldest trading companies in the Netherlands.
Over the centuries, the Van Eeghen image, synonymous with coherence, has become an undeniable reference point in terms of ethics and flexibility, in a constantly changing political environment.

For 14 generations, its name has been associated with business prosperity in the Netherlands.
Ever since the Golden Age, the Van Eeghen Company has been at the very heart of "food product trading": grain in the Baltic, salt in France and herring in the Netherlands. Later, it became involved in the navigation sector and trading with the colonies, especially Indonesia, holding American bonds or carrying out banking operations, depending on the circumstances.

XIXth In the 19th century, it contributed to the emergence of electric weaving looms in the Netherlands.

1950 The Food Sector, Kingpin of the Group

In three centuries, the Van Eeghen Group of Companies, basically a flexible business company, has built up an efficient industrial development infrastructure.
Van Eeghen International b.v., created at the end of the 1950's, specialises in food products and specific ingredients used in food processing: minerals, vitamins, anti-oxidants, emulsifiers, flavouring products, flavour enhancers, natural colouring agents and sorbitol and yeast extracts.

The vast knowledge acquired by the Van Eeghen network in the food sector provides significant added value to these products.

They were bought "qua patet orbis", stored and supplied from stock in warehouses in four major head offices, located in the Netherlands, Germany and the United States.

The company is also present on the specific chemical colouring agent market.

1993 In 1993, Van Eeghen International invested in the setting up of a reprocessing unit (Mouw Van Eeghen Fijnmakerij) in Ermelo, the Netherlands, to supply the large food processing companies with customised products.
The company is equipped with a complete range of machinery to wash, grind and mix a wide range of basic ingredients, enabling it to meet specific customer requirements and to offer its customers approved high quality products, processed in accordance with international standards.

This just in from  DarkUfo (http://darkufo.blogspot.com/)
Darn it!! I wanted to go to comicon but Saturday is sold out!!
anyway... It seems this game me the best one yet!

Quote from: DarkUfo
Hey Losties,
So as you know we are gathering a good team of Losties and friends to make the trip to San Diego Comic Con. We will be live blogging from SDCC and the LOST Panel that will be held on Saturday (currently scheduled for 12 noon PST). Unfortunately it seems like tickets for Saturday when the LOST panel is scheduled are sold out, but if you have a ticket and want to join us, please email me at: mrtheodi@gmail.com.

No ticket is required to watch the LOST Panel.

As most of you know ABC is planning on having a booth with a new company called Octagon Global Recruiting (OGR) that is a division of the Dharma Initiative. All that has been officially confirmed is that OGR is set up to recruit us the fans as members of the DI.

ABC has been hush hush about more details or plans, but thanks to a new source we seemed to have received some interesting details of what is planned.

Now, since this is the first time we have some potential "spoilers" about Comic Con, so if you do NOT want to know or be spoiled, then STOP reading now. Additionally the information seems quite legit and we trust the source, but have no confirmation from ABC yet.

Also, there is NO word on if anything from OGR or SDCC will ever make the show and the current rumors are that this will lead to a new LOST ARG leading into Season 5. So for many, this is most likely not spoilery, but we want to be safe and warn you all.

Please do NOT email us asking who the source, is because we have promised to keep them anonymous, but if you want to know the information then click the following button to see more details.

This is just a SUMMARY of the information we received and yes we know some of it is stuff we knew already.

1) At the OGR recruitment booth there will be actors who will playing members of OGR recruiters.

2) They are there to promote and make us sign up to an "online recruiting game".

The recruiters will stand next to computer terminals that are connected to the fake site, in order to help users create profiles and to guide them through a fake questionnaire.

3) A second group of individuals (3-4 actors) that are NOT the recruiters will also be at SDCC. No confirmation if they will be on the floor or at the booth yet, but most likely just the LOST Panel.

4) OGR will also be a part of the LOST Panel. There will be 4 members of OGR.

5) As of today, no cast members confirmed to appear and the only word so far is that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse will of course be there.

6) At the panel, the OGR recruiters will make a LIVE "performance" to recruit new members of Dharma.

7) The second group of individuals will make an appearance at some point during the performance to "throw a wrench" into the OGR's plans.

So to me it looks like another Rachel Blake type of incident is planned...?? Is this all the beginning of a new LOST Experience/Find815 game or perhaps even more than that....!?

This is what we have so far and hopefully we will get some more information soon. So keep checking back for more information and as soon as we have it, we will let you all know.

Octagon Global Recruiting, on behalf of the Dharma Initiative, is pleased to announce that Dharma's Head of Recruiting, Mr. Hans Van Eeghen, has confirmed his availability for the launch of our latest recruiting drive at Comic-Con 2008.

"My colleagues at Octagon Global Recruiting assure me that Comic-con hosts some of the brightest minds in the country," said Mr. Van Eeghen. "As Head of Recruiting it is my intention to personally assess the very best of this talent in the hope that they may join us."

The Dharma Initiative will be conducting eligibility assessments at Booth 3529 at Comic-Con, San Diego between July 24th - 27th.

If you are attending Comic-Con and would like to submit your name for a randomly selected drawing to secure one of ten (10) pre-release appointments with one of our recruiting officers, please click here.

The volunteer eligibility assessment will be available online from July 28th for a limited time at www.dharmawantsyou.com

The Dharma Initiative hopes you will spread the word. Invite your friends to join the team at www.octagonglobalrecruiting.com

If you look at the source code you can see the following message
If you're reading this, wanna hear something cool?
I've got intel about his little "recruitment drive."
They're doing some kind've personality/IQ testing or something down in SD for ComicCon.
Buddy of mine works down there and has the approvals for their booth, he says once you go in no one knows what happens inside and you need an appointment to get in. He also said to make sure you've got your Bluetooth on and visible he's rigged up a little something.
The whole thing sounds like elitist B.S., doesn't it?
Well, I'm getting in that booth and taking the test. As many times as I have to before I pass (whatever that means?)
And then.
If I can?
I'm gonna tape it so EVERYONE can see what these idiots are up to.
Should be fun, right?
See ya in SD. RuckusGuy OUT

New email from Dharma, dated August 9th, 2008.

ATTENTION ALL RECRUITS
RE: SECURITY BREACH AT COMIC-CON 2008

As many of you may be aware there have been a number of security breaches in recent days related to the nature of the Dharma Initiative's latest research.

Apart from the leak of a sensitive internal communication there was also the unauthorized release of confidential video documentation during a sponsored panel discussion with the makers of the TV show "LOST" at Comic-Con 2008 in San Diego. Consequently, the person responsible for this breach, a promising recruit by the name of Dan Bronson, has been expelled from the volunteer program and had his Dharma Initiative membership permanently revoked. Furthermore, the Dharma Initiative has withdrawn their sponsorship from "LOST".

The Dharma Initiative must stress that the video material leaked at Comic-Con 2008 was viewed entirely out of context. Furthermore, the way in which the material was presented utterly distorted its significance and credibility as scientific data.

The Dharma Initiative is extremely disappointed with this outcome and has ordered a security audit of all departments. As part of this audit the DharmaWantsYou recruiting website will undergo a security upgrade in the next few days.

Upon completion of this upgrade a date will be announced for the official commencement of Volunteer Assessments.

All recruits are reminded that the unauthorized release of confidential information pertaining to the details of your activities within the Dharma Initiative will result in instant dismissal from the volunteer program.

Namaste.
Hans Van Eeghen
Head of Recruiting

There is a clue that helps you pass the first test with 100%.  There is a secret code in the name of the first test.

To make it easier - it tells you to press the space bar.  If you time it just right you can "stop time" and fix the puzzle.  Interesting concept.  My highest score was 86 until I tried the code.  Press Spa ..ce.

This site was part of a commercial which in turn went on to comic con.  The dharma initiative sponsered the "LOST" event there and gave instructions on what to do next at Comic Con.  It was really fun and interesting.

They have finally posted two different groups you can be in.  Test 2 will resume tomorrow sometime.

Good Luck folks!

I am Ganymede and Steropes

Ganymade is a moon of Jupitar.

Steropes had many items.

Sterope, daughter of Pleuron and Xanthippe
Sterope, daughter of Porthaon and Euryte, sometimes said to be the mother of the Sirens by Achelous
Sterope (or Asterope), one of the Pleiades and the wife of Oenomaus (or his mother by Ares); see also Asterope (star)
Sterope, daughter of Cepheus, the king of Tegea, who received a lock of Medusa's hair from Heracles to protect her hometown, Tegea from attack, thus winning Heracles' friendship for her father
Sterope, daughter of Acastus and either Astydameia or Hippolyte
Sterope, one of the horses of Helios
Sterope, one of the Maenads
Steropes, one of the Cyclopes

Man, the frozen-time cheat in the puzzle game really frustrates me.  I suppose that the clever folks who figure out the clue and apply the cheat are justifiably rewarded with "DHARMA-cred" for their ingenuity, but it makes my hard-won score mean less, and the same goes for the trivia questions which (I think?) I rocked.

I can't really say that cheaters never prosper because that may very well be who DHARMA would be looking for.

In regards to the latest video where the creepy old guy describes Black Swan releasing cheats and corrupting the integrity of the testing and blah blah...

Does anyone else notice the white square flashing in the lower-right corner of the screen?

Looks like Morse Code to me.

Did ok on the other two, nailed the math test.

I did the tests.  Got 100% on words, 90% on math (don't tell JB.  He thinks I can't count), did real well on human body and very badly on chem.  By very badly I mean 20% or so.  I don't know how this thing works.  If I register, do all the test makers get points when I take their tests?  Or only the first one?  I don't want to play favorites.

Test 7 (final test) is available.

It is a video informing you that the final test is an integrity test that you already passed of failed depending on if you used any of the cheat codes released or the prior tests.   I therefore failed since I have used them all.

Also, results will be released after 12/15.

I got my email and Dossier:

I'm a Psychologist...  ;D

Quote
Namaste.

I am pleased to announce that registered recruits can now log in and download your personalized Volunteer Assessment Dossier outlining your full test results as well as your position within the Dharma Initiative.

I want to personally congratulate you on behalf of everyone at the Dharma Initiative for your hard work and diligence during our testing process.

We hope that you are happy with your results. We certainly are. The tests were extremely challenging and the aptitude and excellence displayed far exceeded our expectations.

Now that you are in possession of your results I am sure you are asking the obvious question: what's next?

Our plan was that together we would commence a glorious adventure: the revival of the Dharma Initiative using the myriad talents of all our amazing new recruits. We imagined not just fulfilling long abandoned goals but taking the Dharma Initiative to a new level of greatness as an organization promoting the peaceful social and technological advancement of all humankind.

Then the financial crisis struck.

Sadly, our benefactors were not immune to this crisis. In fact, unconfirmed reports suggest that much of the money designated for the work of the new Dharma Initiative was tied up in highly leveraged mortgage derivatives. This, however, cannot be confirmed because, I am sorry to report, the principals representing the benefactors - my employers - have gone missing. Based on bills still coming into our office we believe they are somewhere in South America.

This stunning reversal of fortune has forced us to abandon our ambitious plans. In fact, absent this funding, the Dharma Initiative was forced to make the only sensible decision we had available: we sold the Dharma Initiative to the television show LOST.

While this might strike some of you as a shock, the reason for this was not simply that they were the only bidder. As the only remaining Dharma Initiative employee who had not fled the country, I felt that at the very least the show would be able to keep the spirit of the Dharma Initiative alive and in the public consciousness until such time as a reversal of the reversal of our economic fortunes occurs.

It is with a heavy heart that I must bid you farewell. Despite my fervent commitment to the mission of the Dharma Initiative, the realities of a broken marriage, heavy casino debt and some unfounded police charges have required that I change my present circumstances. It is with great excitement that I can inform you of my pending senior sales management job at a large multi-brand auto dealership in Dubai. I have enjoyed our brief association more than I can ever express, and if you are ever in the Middle East and need a car, please e-mail me for a special "Dharma rate".

In the meantime, you will hear shortly from LOST showrunners Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse. They will explain to you their future plans for the Dharma Initiative and how these plans might affect you.

Thank you again, personally, for your unflagging commitment and support. I hope our paths will one day cross again. In the meantime may the spirit of the island guide you.

Namaste.

I opened the dossier in Adobe reader, then zoomed out a bit so it fit my screen.  Then I hit the "PrtScrn" button on the keypad.  Now I have a copy on my virtual clipboard.  I opened my photo editing software and made a new file.  Then I selected "Paste" and the image came up.  The rest of the way you just treat it like any other photo.  Upload it to photobucket or some other photo sharing site and then insert it into your post.

Did I make that sound harder than it is?

This dichotomy justifies my quote earlier in this thread:

Man, the frozen-time cheat in the puzzle game really frustrates me.  I suppose that the clever folks who figure out the clue and apply the cheat are justifiably rewarded with "DHARMA-cred" for their ingenuity, but it makes my hard-won score mean less, and the same goes for the trivia questions which (I think?) I rocked.

I can't really say that cheaters never prosper because that may very well be who DHARMA would be looking for.

Sure why not!! I didn't cheat at all, I wonder how they decide who is in what job?

My impression from the video component is the were caught off guard and have to do something. It seems kinda haphazard at the moment

They said that it was going to be cool, but abc will not spend the money on it. So we get some behind the scenes stuff. People who are part of the Dharma Intiative get them 48 hours before anyone else.
