Title: Richard Alpert
Post by: Lost_viewer on February 29, 2008, 02:20:16 PM
Who is Richard Alpert? I think he is someone from the Black Rock, what do you think?

welcome! Stick around and you'll see this question brought up a lot. The short answer is... we don't know.

Until we know more...

Richard Alpert is one of the original Others (before Dharma came along).  He met Ben when he was a small boy and presumably recruited, trained, and taught him what the island is and can do.   Many people suspect he was on the Black Rock and simply hasn't aged.  I believe he is even more simply a descendant of Black Rock people and has good skin.

I'll go with the descendent of Black Rock people line of thinking.

I just wanna know where this man is keeping his secret mascara stash.  Maybe one of the Dharma stations is packed full of nothing but mascara?  Or maybe it's Maybelline... maybe Richard hooked up a deal with them during one of his off-island trips to drop crates of mascara on the island DHARMA-style.... or maybe not

The last re-cap epi indicated that he was indigenous to the Island.

& don't hate him because he's beautiful. ;)

Yeah, but frank also refereed to Juliet as a "Native".

Can anyone really be indigenous  to the island?

Good point.  What I mean is that he was contrasted to the Black Rock crew & called one of the Island's "original inhabitants."

I hear ya'.  Damon & Carlton had nothing to do with this past one because of the strike, too, so it's hard to say if it's reliable info.

exactly.

I also don't like them for the same reason that i don't like spoiler material. i hard enough time accepting the mobisodes and the orchid video.

I've also thought about the possibility of him being one of the Black Rock people.  I'd say he's either an original Black Rock person or not from it at all.  I don't think you can have "descendents" on the island, due to the whole babies and children die during childbirth.

Welcome! Good luck with the shoe thing.

At this point, Homer Simpson is as good a guess as any.

 ???
Why do people think he is a black rock descendant??? Danielle was on the black rock i thought... She was pregnant with Alex. Alex is 16... Ben met Richard when he was a young boy... He had to have been here before the black rock right? Ill admit I dont know a ton about black rock so I could be just confused. haha o well..

Mishka, The Black Rock is the old slaver that's landlocked on the island. Danielle led our Losties to it, but it's not her boat. We don't know much about her boat except that it crashed.

It's sometimes the low impact scenes that tell you the most.

Richard is an island inhabitant, how he got there is a mystery.
One things for certain he did suffer the "side effects" due to him not aging

Yeah, this guy is sure aging well (and even makeup couldn't do that good of a job)...  If Ben was a little boy when he met Richard, and Richard was, let's say 25 at that time, and Ben is what, like 45 now, that would make Richard at least 55 - he sure doesn't look it...  Something strange about this guy...always there, but never too involved, never gets his hands dirty...

Im really intested in this guy, i wish we could get more info about him... do we know who any of the other "original inhabitants" are?  do we know what year it was when ben led the Purge? i know danielle has been on the island since 1988... just curious... lol me and my ladyfriend just started watching season 1 over again.

The Purge was probably in 87, since Ben didn't have Danielle yet.

Welcome, Moyboy - I'm glad you noticed that too (2 of 'em, I think). Aaron's nursery seemed somewhat similar as the nursery prepared on the island (the Staff hatch?). In Aaron's nursery on the blackboard thing (outside of the doorway) there is also a piano keyboard :o   I think people missed that when trying to decipher the writing above it instead.  Also the hatch nursery had a mobile made out of tiny planes, like Kate's.  Nice catch!! I think you'll like it here  ::)

I think Richard is going to be much more prominent next season.  I think they even have a deal signed with him to secure him for the season.

I think he's pretty important. I think he will keep things from going really wrong when Locke comes in and takes over.

It looks like it's been confirmed at Comic-Con 08 that Richard doesn't age.  I know a lot of people theorize that he really does age, but that he time travels all around and that he visited young Locke from the future.  So I thought I'd just throw that out there.  Here is the paragraph from the IGN coverage of the Lost panel:

--

A fan asked how old the mysterious Richard Alpert is, and Cuse replied, "He is quite old. Obviously, we have hinted before that aging on the island is a different process and obviously Richard looks the same [in different eras]. Hopefully that's an engaging mystery that will keep you watching." He added that in Season 5, "You will learn a bit more about Richard's history.
