Title: "Don't tell them my last name"
Post by: Roman122 on February 08, 2008, 12:12:33 AM
why would Miles be worried about "strom" do we know any strom's? or did he just not want to give the losties too much info?

i rekon he just didn't want to give too much information away to them off why they were there keeping up the illusion of who these mystery 4 are? But yay for ben and his spies. Im sure it will definatly become relevant.

My guess is he's just a very high strung kind of guy...very agressive...was just being defensive?

It sounds like an odd name, it may mean something.  The only thing I can think of so far is that it sounds like the word maelstrom:

1. a large, powerful, or violent whirlpool.
2. a restless, disordered, or tumultuous state of affairs: the maelstrom of war.
3. (initial capital letter) a famous hazardous whirlpool off the NW coast of Norway.

With a little imagination we could relate any of these definitions to the show, but we'd probably be grasping at straws.

And when Miles took the sat-phone and called back to the boat, didn't he ask to speak to Mikhail (and was told he can't come to the phone right now)? Or did I mishear that name??

Yes, 'strom' means storm, but his name is spelled "Straume".  Together they do sound like "maelstrom", which may be the only trivial point to it (rather than being similar to the name of someone else).  There is also a small town (and a few other places) in Norway with that name.

Welcome Aussie.

I tend to agree, but I wouldn't be too surprised if Miles had a relative who was one of the victims of Dharmacaust. If so, he might not want to take a chance on revealing that connection till he knows more about the folks he's talking to.

Could be, and here he is trying to do a Colin Fry on them  :) seriously though, the new crew could all have connections to Dharma, I got confused when Daniel started crying too.

I asked this somewhere else - has there not been a reference to Maelstrom already on the show? A company name or logo, Im sure I have seen it somewhere because it stood out to me as there used to be a cheap clothes shop of the same name over here in the UK (did very good quality football socks I remember :))

Strom is a pretty common name in the South.  Kind of unusual for an Asian descent fellow though.

I was thinking Miles was some how related to Dr. Marvin Candle/ Mark Wickmund/ Edgar Halowax?

And I think Mrs. Gardner is related to some one else who is/was on the island.
Ivan, one of the Others who is dead, is the only one who kinda makes sense. Did we see any other african american men on the plane or island besides Ecko, Walt and Michael?

Is there a flight manifest somewhere to see names of other passengers?

I agree there are going after Ben for the "Dharmacaust", but they don't want people in the "real world" to know about the Dharma Initiative.

Welcome, Yank!

Yeah, a number of folks mentioned a resemblance between Straume and our favorite orienteer. Could be!

You could check Lostpedia. They have pictures of all the Others and all the Losties we've seen.
