Title: lost is back!
Post by: madmax22e on March 08, 2007, 12:07:21 AM
Best episode of the season without a doubt.

ANSWERS!

Whats the cable going into the ocean?
How is the food dropped?

Lots of mythology.

Lots of action.

Decent backstory that tied in with what was going on, just like lost used to be like.

This was a great episode. For the lost fans who stuck it out, this was our reward.

thats very stupid that they didnt open any of the binders that explained EVERYTHING

I agree, more time on the island with a bit of flashback makes for a good epi!

And I foresee LOTS of screencap request to be followed by a bunch of off-the-wall theories! Hell yeah!

couldnt agree more... good episode.

Maybe they would spent more time on the binders if ms klue (sp?) didnt come out of the woodwork

Given that the armed confrontation took place in daylight and they didn't leave the building until after nightfall, I think we are supposed to assume that they did a pretty thorough search of the materials.  How else would they have found the map, as nothingbutsky mentioned.

That's a good point dcnole.  We don't have to have seen everything that they did.  Sayid or Kate now could have information that they pull out later that we don't know about!

Sayid mentioned at the end when Danielle showed up that Locke and Kate were collected what they could find in the farmhouse. I imagine we'll see them reading Dharma manuals on the beach. Although I still don't trust any of the Dharma materials. I the Flame station is just an other experimental station, then the contents within it might be misleading. The "mainland communications" message and the "satellite down" response might be part of the "test". It's good to get a few answers, but everything has to be taken with a grain of salt since everything the Others say is a lie.

I'm starting to wonder if Locke is Keiser Sose...

Great episode with many answers and many clues.

I believe everything Patchy said. Dharma came into the island that the others were already occupying, the battle(purge) and the others victory.

Many many answers.

His words and his actions are internally inconsistent.  He said he's the last of Dharma and the Others are the hostiles, yet he's friendly with Klugh, who appears to be a high-ranking Other.  It can't all be true.

Patchy admitted he lied about being part of dharma. He said he never was. He was an other through and through.

in response to why they didnt look at the dharma stuff, it really is pointless. the dharma experiments are probably not important now that we can see that almost everyone on the island isnt dharma related (or possibly they are all working for dharma in which case these experiments arent really important, maybe a cover for what they are really doing. i doubt watching desmond and kelvin and reading about it in a manual is of much interest to them.)

oh, and my theory posted the other day:

i highly doubt that he was lying about the ocean wire. And the computer showing the food drops seemed accurate. All the stuff he said seemed true except he wasnt former dharma. i believe all the other stuff he said.

besides how cruel would it be to show a long cable going into the ocean and then 2 seasons later explain it falsely. not giving answers is one thing, but to give out fake ones after all this time is just mean.

And that's exectly one of the things that irks me. You have to assume that most of what the Others say is false. You also have to assume that most of what is presented by the Dharma videos and manuals is part of an experiment. So, while we think the computer controlled the food drops and caused the explosion, there might be someone else on the other end of the camera in that room executing commands that Wickman/Candle reads - this could explain why the commands weren't just presented on screen. The fake arm could have been used to make the flame staff think there was a threat from hostles ("see, they took my arm"). The dish and the cables might be for show... I guess we'll never know now :)

I think there was a purge, but I think the Others did the purging I'm starting to wonder now what was Danielle's role in the purge. Typically in the movies, when you tell about an event and someone is immediately shown, you later come to find out that they were the one being spoken about. In this episode, Mikhael mentioned surviving the attack by a group of scientists, then Danielle shows up.

I think we do have to believe most of what the others have told us. They have never lied to us. Even Mickail came clean on his one lie about being Dharma. The rest is truth.

i agree juggie.  i would like to add, that although we may not understand what they have told us, or understand their reasoning behind it, i still think for the most part they are telling the truth.  when they have lied to us (ben/patchy/juliet) it has been for a short time, lies to gain trust or information with the losties.  i'm starting to believe the others at face value.  i know there is much more underneath them, but i am finally starting to see them as humans, real people, with real emotions, rather than just some crazy island people with no moral compass.

Oh they are still wack jobs with out moral compass, but they tell us the truth most of the time.

Ben-Fake Henry, has said in the past,"We are not the Bad Guys"

I totally agree, Rick.

While episodes like "Tricia Tanaka" are ok sometimes for light-hearted character development, it bored the stuffing out of me.

Then "Enter 77" comes along and blows my socks off.  We suddenly think "now we're getting answers, woohoo!" and then they discredit the storyteller and blow up the Flame, making us start from near scratch again.  Even so, I really enjoy that, because it does answer SOME questions.  I love this show!

I think the cool thing about this show is the little answers in each episode and when you watch the show from beginning to end (whenever that will be) everything will be connected some way and all loose ends will be tied up.  When I was watching last night's episode I was thinking, that all these episode should be 2 hours cause theres so much info out there and it seems like they can't tell us in just 1 hour an episode.

Oh they are still wack jobs with out moral compass, but they tell us the truth most of the time.

Remember that Ben spent his first season on the show as Henry Gale. Remember that the Others have roamed the jungle in costumes, pretending to be uncivilized. Henry didn't push the button in Lockdown... or maybe he did. "We've never hurt anyone... we're the good guys" except for a neck snap, dismemberment, hanging and kidnapping every once in a while. Oh, and the whole "Your heart will explode" gag. Even Walt knows that they lie all the time. They tell Jack is was a miracle that he fell from the sky, yet they have a folder with all of his personal information and his father's autopsy report... or do they? They do an excellent job of changing their stories to fit the circumstances. It makes for interesting TV though.

My only burning question at this point is to know more about Ben's backstory - has he really been on the island his whole life? So far, everyone else seems to have been recruited.

I got about one-fourth of the way into the show last night and (although alone in the house) I yelled out, "YES! Now THIS is why I watch Lost!"

Gahhh, I love this show.  Glad it's finally back, with plenty of episodes still left in the season.  :)

the others have only ever lied to us... what truth have they ever said that we can bank on?  Ben showing Sawyer the other island....  I don't understand why we would automatically assume that Mr. Patchy said anything meaningful to us... it all made logical sense but that doesn't make it true

As I said before, there is ONE PERSON in this island that their lies can't fool: SAYID. And he accepted some information from Mikhail as truth, and those I believe.

Sayid practically handed him the answers... Patchy mainly had to agree or not... I think Sayid got the answers he wanted

But considering Desmond's failed escape, and the directions they gave to Michael, the cable could be a magnetic lighthouse/flare leading outside the island.

That's a very good point. I bet we'll be shown more in the future.
