Post by: ChellyKins on March 03, 2007, 09:44:42 AM
I wanted to let Cayley know how special she is to us!!! She left for a wonderful cruise vacation with her family last Saturday and today is the day she gets to come back home! I'm sure for her that sucks. But for me it is absolutely GREAT NEWS!! And it would be even GREATER NEWS if for some reason her flight was delayed here in Cinci this afternoon!!!!!!!  ;D ;D ;D

Cayley, I hope you can log in later tonight and let us know you're fine.
Love you girl!!!!!!!

There is actually a flight tracker somewhere that you can actually see like gps coordinates and airspeed for a flight.  That way you have a better idea if it is going to be on time or not!

Greatest. Thread. Ever.

First off I have to say THANK YOU to Chelle for tracking my flight for me, which I asked her to do, so that if we missed our connection she'd be ready to put us up for the night  ;D ;D ;D ;D (isn't she awesome???)

I'm sorry I couldn't call you, Chelle, we had 17 minutes to connect, and my phone was turned off and buried in my bag. We landed in Concourse B and had to take the bus to Concourse C!! so there was no time to find the phone!  :(  But I was waving to you when we landed and took off!!

Its about time you came back!!
LOL-I know that it probably flew by for you but we really missed you here
Well I did more than anybody else ;)
Hurry and tell us all about it!!
Love ya my firlfriend!!
I missed you too Debs!!! Everytime I passed the internet cafe on ship I thought about popping on and saying hi, but I was determined to go a week off line if it killed me! (it almost did) ;)
But thats not why I didnt log on last night. We had a ridiculously long day, starting with getting up early, and making a bus and 2 flights, and by the second flight my dad, who had developed a cold, was looking tired. By the time we got home he was pale and weak. I spent quite a bit of time taking care of him. By the time I put my dad and Cameron to bed, ate dinner and watched "tricia tanaka is dead"  ;D :D ;) I was falling asleep. So I decided to wait to check in til today.

big hugs and kisses to all my SW friends that I missed so very much and especially my most awesomest and wonderful firlfriends, Michelle and Debs!

You made me tear up!!  :'( ;D In a good way of course.

Glad you're home lady. Missed you. I would look at my paper with your itinerary and think "Dammit! Why can't I be in Key West or Cozumel right now?!?!?" Hehehe.

Ya know, I thought I seen you waving to me last night! That is wicked awesome!!  :D

Hope your Dad is feeling better. I bet Cam had a blast!!! And Paul's BDay, was it fun times?

We had a great time! My dad came down a while ago and he looked a lot better but I'm starting to think he went back to bed. I know when he gets up he'll want to drive back to CT, so I hope he is resting some more.

Cameron had an incredible time, he just loved being out in the fresh air and we walked all around the decks pretty much all the time he was awake. He was sick until about tuesday. He was only allowed in the spray pool because he's not potty trained, and he got pretty bored with that, but as long as we could walk around he was happy. He joined in some kid things like a hunt for Tinkerbell, and gathered up treasure with pirates, played hide and seek with about 20 other kids, and played on a big slide a lot. Oh, and we took an excusion around grand Cayman and went to a turtle farm, where we fed the turtles, and Paul and I picked them up and he petted them... and a butterfly garden... he had a blast.

Paul's birthday was great!! The night before was the day in grand Cayman and the Pirates in the Carribean deck party so that was like his party, and the next day in Cozumel, we actually stayed onboard and had the ship practically to ourselves. That night after Cam and Grandpa went to bed we hit the bar onboard and drank and danced. we had that bar practically to ourselves too, since everyone who had gotten off the boat didnt have to be onboard til 1am. So we got to know the staff really well, which is always a lot of fun. OH! and that night, when there were actually some people there, Paul won the "Best Husband" award. He and two other guys had to tell the crowd why they loved their wives. We won by a landslide.

I'll work on getting pics up really soon.

OMG that sounds like tons of fun!!! I wanna go next time!!!  :'(

So what did Paul say to make him win that contest?!?!? Or should that remain private  ;) You know it wouldn't hurt ya...  :D

Andy why didn't ya get off the boat in Cozumel?!?!?

((((((((CAYLEY))))))) Can't hug ya enough.  :-*

Welcome back cayley!  It sounds like a great time!

I'm thinking seriously about taking a cruise, none of us have ever been on one, and it sounds like SOO much fun.  You did the disney cruise thing right?  Which one and where did you go?  What advice do you have in booking a cruise?

Welcome back cayley!  It sounds like a great time!

I'm thinking seriously about taking a cruise, none of us have ever been on one, and it sounds like SOO much fun.  You did the disney cruise thing right?  Which one and where did you go?  What advice do you have in booking a cruise?
Hi LB. I have only done 2 cruises, and both were disney. I recommend them as highly as I possibly can. They are incredible. They really know how to treat their guests, including at the parks. My husband has been on Carnival cruises back in the early 90's, and he thought disney was much better.

As for advice, I'm not sure. I chose disney because I had such a good experience with them in the theme parks, and because my son was so young. If I did anything wrong during the booking process I don't know about it because everything seemed pretty close to perfect. I guess I'd recommend picking a time of year thats maybe not so busy if you can swing it, this cruise was full and we couldnt get a dinner seating time earlier than 8, which was torture on my 3 yr old, but they had a casual restaraunt that we could go to at 6:30, so we just did that. It wasnt quite as good as if we had our assigned dining rooms, but it was more important to have a happy kid with us. Prices are less during the less busy months too, because it is a pricey vacation. If my mom hadnt given us the money for this we wouldnt have been able to go.

I liked being on a cruise for a vacation mostly because its like a self contained all inclusive resort that goes to interesting places. Our room was never more than 10 minutes away, and yet we could be in the pool in the morning, the sports pub in the afternoon, a nightclub at night, take cooking seminars, there were art auctions and contests...
They had an ABC TV fan trivia contest that I ran too, hoping for some Lost questions, but they only did Desperate Housewives and Greys Anatomy. There was only one other person playing and she was also a Lost fan but we didnt get to talk cause she had just done the margarita and tequila tasting before the contest and was a wee bit out of it.

We went on Disney's Western Carribbean Cruise to Key West, Cozumel, Grand Cayman and Disneys own island, Castaway Cay (btw, its actually coincidental that I chose CastawayCayley as a screen name, I didnt mean to name myself after the island) As a family vacation this cruise is fantastic because they have extensive kids programs, where you can drop off the kids and go to the "grownups only" pool, bar, cafe, spa or restaraunt. Plus tons of events, 2 pools and activities for the family to do together. Teenagers get their own club abd activities. I trust the kids counselors because disney puts each potential employee through 4-6 months of extensive tests, psych evaluations, criminal backround checks, and medical exams. One crew member said they wanted tests that he couldnt get in Australia, so they arranged for expensive specialists to be consulted and Disney reimbursed him, even before they knew if theyd hire him.

Another reason I picked disney was theres no casino, and no late night party atmosphere. Only one bar stays open til one am. But I know people who couldnt imagine being on a cruise ship with out the chance to stay up til 4 drinking and gambling, so it's a matter of perspective, I guess, when you choose your cruise.

Also I looked up disney on a site called cruise.com (I think) that lists every incident that happens on any cruise ship, and found only 3 things ever on a disney cruise (1 case of gastrointestinal flu outbreak in 2000, and 2 crew members arrested for sexual harrassment of young passengers.) BUt the other lines have pages and pages of much   worse things.

Also, as far of Dept of health inspections, most top cruise lines have a rating in the 70's, but didneys rating is 99. I didnt know that before this cruise, but Its really reassuring.

I could talk about this forever! so if anyone has any questions or if I didnt answer LB's questions satisfactorily please ask!!

thanks cayley!  i'm already looking up the cruises online!  my hubby and i have been talking about it for a while, and i know we would love to take one, but finding the time (and the money) is going to be difficult!  i'm looking at dates even a year and a half out and still can't find anything that meshes with his schedule.  he's just way too busy with basketball.  we may just have to wait a few years for him to get into administration, then (hopefully) he'll have more time (and more money)!  thanks for the advice!  the disney cruises sound great, and i know sam would have a BLAST!

Oh, I wasnt trying to start anything, just admitting something about myself and showing that it's not always newcomers to a site that feel maybe a wee bit and a tad slightly left out from time to time in the community. When I say I felt "jealous" by no means was I seething over it, or crying myself to sleep at night into my pillow, I just had a little, you know, twinge of, "that's so cool. I wonder if I'll ever have a thread" before moving on to some other subject and forgetting all about it. Also, as I recall, the "show someone some love" thread, I believe, started out as a "show Juggy some love" thread but the thread starter, I think Chelle, changed it to be all inclusive. So we as a group have always been more than welcoming!! I never meant to imply anything different from that.

Welcome home, new friend.  Did you notice that the Disney ship had a heck of a crafts program within the kid's floor?  Some great stuff.  I was on the original Disney ship when it came over from Europe ... there was not much to do on that cruise and I spent some time looking at the guide books for the crafts.  Almost like a college professor's course outline book.  At first I thought that it was lame to teach kids that way, but now I understand why such books are created (to help anyone step in and teach).

A little craft trivia for you.

so you like crafts, writing and DISNEY CRUISES!?? I think you're my long lost twin, but I suspect you got all the coolness genes! yeah, I loved looking around at all the great things for the kids there, I wish there was a floor like that for grownups! I had to make do with the lessons on cake decorating, towel origami and of course, hang out with Simon, the hot bartender from England to pass the time... one of these days I really will post pics from that darn cruise!!

Also, as I recall, the "show someone some love" thread, I believe, started out as a "show Juggy some love" thread but the thread starter, I think Chelle, changed it to be all inclusive. So we as a group have always been more than welcoming!! I never meant to imply anything different from that.

Right.  I just didn't want people to feel badly if they don't have their own thread.  It doesn't mean that people don't like them.  You know?  There are plenty of people who don't have their own threads that I like on here.

I'm STILL glad Cayley's home, because that means she can hang out here! :)

Have I told you lately that you ROCK? ;D
(((((((((PL))))))))))
:)  btw- just because I changed my sig doesn't imply that you cease to ROCK.  :D

Yeah, I've been meaning to ask how the child you are nurturing and gestating is somehow more important than my rockingness???? Sheesh! Some people need to get their priorities straighter!! ;D ;)

j/k!!
I see my counter & think of how long it will still be before the baby's born :(, but then I remember that this baby will be here for months before the new Lost season even starts!   :'( :'( :'(

What was that you said about priorities? ;D

Um, guys.  Just because you don't have your own special thread doesn't mean that I don't really think you're so cool.  I think that's what the "Show Someone Some Love" thread is for.

I love honesty!  You are a hero in my book because I know exactly what you are saying!  It reminds me that there is an advantage of getting older... if I really wanted a thread dedicated to me, I'd make the darn thread myself!!!  Laughing!  It's life grand!

And bravo!

I have been thinking about getting older a lot lately, and you're right, that is one of the best things about it, the ability to have perspective on life that just isnt possible with less experience.  Its the physical part of getting older that blows chunks. Totally. ;)

Castaway!

I hear you on the physical.  I was doing great early 40's and wondering what everyone was complaining about, then my fibro got really bad.  Oh, my goodness, did I feel old for the first time in my life!!!!!

But with age does come some wisdom!  I figured out that if I didn't allow the pain to dampen my life, I was gonna rock!  I took up scuba diving because I didn't think I could do it.  I wanted to do it, but thought my lack of ability to lift heavy weight that I'd fail.  Guess what!  People are so nice and helpful that I can get in and out of the water with very little pain.

I've said it before, but one of the most freeing things in my life was when I gave up really caring what strangers think.  I'm still a people pleaser kind of person, but put that energy into family and friends now.

I've been a busy bee this morning!  Lots of great company.  Glad you guys didn't hear me on the phone with the dog trainer.  Amazing how this trainer turned it all back on me because I am thinking the dog is a person and dogs are not people.  I think kindness is appropriate for people and dogs!  I know the dog is a dog because if a person was urinating all over my house I would remove the person (using a choke collar) to the backyard for permanent banishment from the house!

Happy Birthday!

I feel for you Izz, I used to work with animals and rescue dogs are usually really tough, and the ones we love the most, knowing what they've been through. I had so many of them as clients because the dogs couldnt wait til the owners got home, and I'd come and walk them midday. There was one greyhound that never ever got used to me, and I would walk her "brother" and then clean up the wee wee pads for her.

It was an okay birthday, I had a class that night, so i got sushi (my favorite food ever) for a late lunch from my favorite restaurant, and went to class, and afterwards had coffee with a classmate, which isnt usually my "thing" but it was nice to get to know someone new and NOT BE HOME!! My dear husband says he has something awesome planned for this coming Sunday... I'll keep everyone posted about that ;)

heres the story, look away if you don't "do" poop stories:

So I kind of accidentally started potty training my son when he got yet another horrible diaper rash because he was withholding poops. I told him "Thats it, no diapers tomorrow (friday) they are giving you these rashes" (They werent, it was his own fault, but it was another desperate attempt, and I was surprised when it worked) and after one early accident he did great all day friday peeing, but never pooped. There was an ill timed block party we were invited to on saturday, and we went, armed with his only 3 pairs of underwear and about 5 pairs of shorts. So, he of course peed on the sidewalk at one point because he never has these kinds of distractions anyway, much less when he's supposed to be remembering to use the potty. He also soiled the other two pairs trying to hold in poops. So, I was left with no choice then to send him out to the party in shorts "commando style" while we tried to get his underwear washed and dried. About a half an hour later we are sitting there and I see him go across the street and start his "holding-it-in" dance. I figure he's yet again sure to win this battle so I dont think much of it at first, but all of a sudden, he uncrosses his legs, does a little shimmy move and out of the leg of his shorts drops the biggest freakin' turd right out into the street. I dont know whether to laugh or scream, so i try to do both (doesnt work) and I tell my husband to get a bag or something. There was no hope of keeping it a secret, either. If he had been the slightest bit freaked out by this I wouldnt be sharing it, but I guess he was just happy to be rid of it (remember, it had been since, I think tuesday or wednesday since he had gone!) and wasnt phased at all. Which is weird seeing as how 45 minutes earlier the idea of pooping at all, anywhere, was freaking him out. Anyway, I expect a day to come, perhaps his college graduation party or his wedding, where at least one guest will turn to me and say, "Hey, remember the time he crapped in the street?"

Great story Cayley.  I have a similar one with my oldest daughter, but its not nearly as embarrassing.  My daughter had on some overalls and no diaper because we were trying to get some cute pics of her.  We'd just finished snapping the pictures, and I mean JUST FINISHED, when...PLOP...out dropped a chunk of poo on the living room floor.  We had that very brief moment of "what just fell out off....EEWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!"

Great story!!  I love it!

OMG!!!  Cayley, your thread has turned into the Potty Training Thread, LOL!!  I have so many stories I could share, LOL.

I think the best in this house was when my daughter wanted to potty like a big kid like her brother did.  She insisted that she could stand in front of the toilet like he did!!  I went weeks with a mop in my bathroom until I finally convinced my son to show her how to sit on the toilet to pee!!  LOL

When we had our dog, my youngest was in the potty training stage.  We were outside walking the dog and Andrew was off a little ways playing.  I looked down and saw the dog was pooping and as soon as I looked over at Andrew, he was too!!  LOL  He yelled, "Mommy look!!  I'm a puppy too!!"  I thought I was gonna die!!  LOL

My mom says that is what I did
I tried to pee like my brother standing up
and she kept going in there and finding the floor wet and kept yelling at my brother to hold it straight!!
One day she caught me...(I must have been a dumb kid if I kept doing it)

Cameron is now the proud owner of 20 pairs of big boy underwear, half his size now, half one size larger because with my luck he will have a growth spurt tomorrow morning! Yay for more laundry! Wait, that can't be right...

ROFL :D  I am crying my eyes out laughing!  LOLOLOLOL

Best line EVER- "ill timed block party."  ;D  I heard the soundtrack & everything with this phrase, & I KNEW that someONE or someTHING was getting pooped on that night. :D

LMAO! I knew that as a mom you'd appreciate this! or at least, sympathize ;D
omg- YES.  Does any other parent feel that they are a slave to their child's bowels? :-\  Only other parents understand how you really have to plan your LIFE sometimes around...excrement. :-[ ::) :D  There's the "I'm late, because he had to poop."  The "You can't wear that, because you might have to poop."  The "You better not eat that, or you may have to poop while we're out."  The "I don't want to put a new diaper on him till he poops!"  The "I can't put him down for a nap till he poops."  The list goes on & on & on &.... :D

I think I've blocked all my poop stories out of my mind.  :D But you saying you went to the party with all those clothes -- I only recently stopped going for day trips with my kids without extra clothes.  I guess that's how you know they've grown!

Pooping in the street.  That's just priceless.  SCORE!!!!!

I posted some pics from my surprise trip here:
http://lost.cubit.net/forum/index.php/topic,5540.msg297067.html#msg297067

We took this little plane flown by a friend of my husbands over to Martha's Vineyard and spent the day just walking, and eating amazing seafood, and talking and bar hopping! There was even a parade, which was a nice surprise. He had me completely fooled, too. He kept dropping hints that we were going to do something thrilling, so I thought we were going to 6 Flags (a big amusement park), but when we headed south I knew we were doing something I hadnt anticipated. He started pointing out small airplanes and saying, "That looks like fun" but I rolled my eyes, thinking he was trying to trick me into thinking we were going to fly in one. When we pulled up to the airport he started asking me "whats the craziest thing you've ever done?" I still think he's kidding and even as we walk to the door I'm positive we will turn around and he'll say he was kidding and we'll head to the real surprise. When we walked in, a guy walks over and says "Are you Paul? We just have to do some maintenance on one of the engines, but in the meantime we can fit you for your parachutes" I was absolutely numb. I didnt know what to think, so I asked to go to the bathroom. After I calmed down I realized that my dear husband knows more than anyone that I have no interest in jumping out of a plane. So I may have been going for a plane ride, but I knew I wasnt jumping. When I came out of the bathroom, the pilot told me who he was, and told me we were going to the vineyard. So after that scare, and then one in the air where he banked sharply to the left and slowed down so suddenly I thought we were going to stall, we had a very lovely day!

Yay Millie!!!!
Debs posted a whole slew of awesome potty dancing smilies for Cameron, I think its on page 7... But he says Millie can enjoy them as her own! Cameron is still having accidents here and there, but I think we are mostly to blame as we often forget to remind him to try to go.  Congratulations to Millie and her mom!

Aw, Thank You!!!!! I changed my avi back to an old one, I dont think you ever saw it. I have had 3 hamsters in my life. there was Special Patrol Group ("SPG"), Cliff Richards, and Harvey the Wonder Hamster. poor Harvey is buried in the yard, under the patio, with his name inscribed in the concrete above him. :'(
I can't wait til Cameron is older, I plan on getting him one, but one of cats fancies himself a hunter and we will have to be very careful about locking him up.

well, from my experience, female cats are more hunters than male cats, but if u plan on leaving your hamster runing around teh house, then certainly keep teh cat out!!!!
but if u have a cage for Hamsters then just make sure the cage isn't big enough for the cats to put their paws through it!

my birds are safe from my Tugga cause the cage has very small space for cat paws ;D

Tugga even plays hide and seek with them now, not even trying to kill them, he knows he can't get in ;)

This cat of mine is a knucklehead, he flys from window to window knocking things over if there is a bird or squirrel in any of the trees or on the lines outside our house (he probably should have been an outdoor cat) And when he was a kitten and Harvey was still alive he'd sit right next to the cage all tensed up like he was about to explode. The female cat is a big, lazy, clumsy kitty. But when we actually got a mouse in the house she was the one that cornered it. But the boy cat was the one that staked out the kitchen baseboards that he could hear it behind for a couple of days. I dont think he slept at all for those 3 days.

I hate to admit it, but as for hamster cages, I have a 10 gallon fish tank with a lid that converts the tank to habitrail tubes, and 3 seperate habitrail houses. Also, I would give him hamster seed but also I would go to the bulk bins at the health food store and buy him oatmeal, and grains of many varieties. All in tiny amounts and mix them together. The checkout ladies would look at me like I was insane. They'd ask if I was "just sampling". Also he got fresh carrots and lettuce, and he absolutely loved cantaloupe and Brighams Rasberry Lime Rickey Sherbert ;D

wow, CC!!  you sounds like are the best pet owner ever!  i mean, i have heard of cooking for dogs and cats, and I may have even done it once, or twice.  but gourmet, hand mixed seeds and oats from the health food store sounds like something paris hilton would eat!

if you ever want to keep a human as a pet let me know.  i'd like to apply for the position!

she daid it CC! i'm proud of you as a pet owner!!

my kittycat is so picky he wont eat real food! only tuna!
no chiken, no fish, no nothing! only Kitty food! and not the cheap one either LOL!!!

i wanted a hamster, i think they're the cuttest little furry things, but my mom would die if i had a rat here LOL
so, i'll just get one when i get my own place!!! (wich i hope is next year ;D)

Aw, sounds like a 1st day of school picture that will live on in infamy!
Cameron gets his stubbornness from both of us, so his power is doubly strong! His looks, I cant figure out because he's way cuter than either of us now. But if you look at childhood pics of each of us, even tho we dont look anything alike, Cam looks a lot like both of us when we were his age! I also see a lot of my brothers in him, but I dont look much like them at all. I'm not sure how that works! It's weird....

Not weird at all - both of my babies are the spitting images of me and husbie as kids - and yet emotionally/mentally Kennie is definitely a mini-daddy, and Millie is a clone of me!

And that smiley on crutches is so perfect!

I am off my crutches right now but I do get sore if I overdo it. Now I've got more of a mental "limp". I know Craig has alluded to a project that has me tied up, and when that's over I'll fill you all in.

Thanks for all your thoughts!

LOL, thanks for the reminder! I never did tell you how it went...
It was... pretty good. It had some great moments that we truly loved that made it better than the last time, and some moments that sucked big time and made it worse than last time. I'll post the stories and the pictures soon. (and this time I promise, lol. I actually wrote it the whole story and posted pics at Lostiholics, I just need to cut and paste a version of it for over here... brb)  ;D

OK, so I have been sick for weeks now but I finally feel better and I uploaded some pics to share with all of you so I can FINALLY tell you all how my trip was.

There was a snow storm the night before we were due to leave but luckily it stopped snowing about 1 am and by the time we were scheduled to take off we were loaded on the plane and ready to go. We were about a half an hour late getting in, no big deal. So Disney does this thing where if you put a special tag on your luggage then once you check it at your point of departure it goes "magically" to your room and you don't have to deal with it. But we have only done it with airlines that have a partnership with Disney, and  this time we had made our flight plans independently so we were worried. We actually went to the baggage claim and waited to make sure our bags didn't show up on the belt, lol. When we got to our cabin there were still no bags yet, but we were able to look out the window and see them going up on a conveyor belt into the ship, so, we were finally able to relax. A few weeks before we left I found a message board where you could talk with people who would be on the same cruise and we arranged a meet-up on that first day. That was a ton of fun! Also I had ordered champagne and petit-fours to be waiting in our room when we arrived which Paul was really impressed with. I had also been worried about the safety drill because Cam always freaks out during them, and he was wiped out exhausted, but he did a great job. Then we went up to the sail-away deck party, and we had fun.

This is at the SailAway Celebration.
It is also the first photographic documentation of my brand new glasses.

The first morning on the boat we were scheduled for our Character Breakfast. They used to have the characters walk around and have pictures taken with each kid but now they just run around the room and the kids can go out and dance with the if they want too. Cameron most definitely did not want to. Oddly enough. The servers make the napkins into fun hats.

We did not get off the boat for Key West, we just played in the Mickey Pool all day since it was relatively empty. The Mickey pool (which is, of course, shaped like Mickey's head) and the area for kids 3-7 called The Oceaneers Club were all Cameron wanted to do for the most part, and when Cameron was in the Club, Paul would go up to the Adults Only pool/bar:

I would either nap because I was sick, or join Paul at the bar or in the Quiet Cove pool or hot tub. We found our favorite bartender from last years trip was still working there. She made my number one favorite mixed drink, a Caeser. She was the only bartender on the whole ship who knew to rim the glass with salt, so she was the only one I would order it from.  ;D

On Sunday night we were scheduled to leave Key West at about 7:00pm and sail through Monday and dock in Grand Cayman on Tuesday morning, but I guess late Sunday night there was a life or death emergency and we returned to Key West and the person who was sick was off-loaded to a Coast Guard cutter. We never did find out if they were okay.  We ended up being late getting into GC by about 2 hours. There were some people yelling at the guest services people over it but, wow, I hope someday they aren't the ones that need the medical attention!

On Monday night it was formal night. We didn't get too dressed up but I did find a fun tie for Cameron justs before we left.
The stripes are actually rows of little different colored Mickey Mouse heads.  ::)
He refused to take a serious picture, so this is between goofy faces.

On Tuesday we got off in Grand Cayman and went to a restaurant/bar that Paul used to hang out in a lot when he worked as a comic on the island back in the mid-90's. He didn't know the waitress but she knew a lot of the same people as he did, and he had a great time finding out what they were all up to these days. I couldn't help thinking about Texy and Astro while we were there...

To Be Continued...

On Wednesday things took a turn for the worse. The wind really kicked up, the boat started rocking and the clouds and wind made the pools no fun at all. Oh, and that was the morning I woke up with a fever. Luckily that was also the day that, with absolutely no coaxing from us, Cameron went into the Oceaneers Club at 9am and didn't even think about leaving til we went in at 5pm and asked him if he wanted to come to dinner with us. We had poked our heads in throughout the day and asked the counselors how he was doing but quickly snuck back out as soon as they said he was doing fine. Hey, it was our vacation too!  8)

Check out these waves. That is Cozumel. At least, the shopping area near the port part of Cozumel.

That night was the Pirates In The Caribbean Party. We didn't even think they would attempt it, but they did. We had set sail during the dinner hours so by the time the party was close to starting we were really rolling around. The bathrooms all had stacks of barf bags. That's almost never a good sign.
This is Cameron (right) and the youngest kid from the family we were sitting with at dinner each night; his name is Charlie. This is while waiting for the party to start. He has on a cool Pirate costume, one of which, of course, I couldn't convince Cameron to go with me to get.
Oh and that night, the Mickey Pool overflowed!

Thursday was more bad weather and we didn't have very good appetites, none of us wanted to go in the pools, Cam spent a little time in the club, but in the end we spent most of the day and night in the room. I packed up 2/3rds of our stuff so we didnt have to do it all the last night. That night a few fun things happened: Paul had his birthday dinner complete with cake and singing, Benita (the bartender who made my favorite drink) sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room, and when it was obvious someone had to stay in the room and put the boy to bed, I volunteered so Paul could go out and have fun. At 9:06 I was flipping through the channels and found out we had picked up the abc affiliate from Puerto Rico and I GOT TO WATCH LOST!!!!!! It was more than I could have hoped for, lol.

Here Cameron works on a Mickey Shaped Ice Cream Bar covered in sprinkles. Eventually he gave up and ate sprinkles from that bowl there on the table, by the spoonful.

So, the last day was Castaway Cay. The water was a bit too chilly for me, but otherwise it could not have been a better day. It made up for the two previous days. Cameron and Paul played in the water all day and I split my time between playing with them and reading under an umbrella on a chair.

Cameron made Sand Castles. I made Sand Craphole Islands, complete with toy Black Rock.

That night we had to say goodbye to our servers. Their names were Edward, from Manchester, England  ;D  and I Ku Tet from Indonesia. Cameron still talks about his friend Edward.

Cameron went to the club after dinner and Paul and I went to the sports pub on board called Diversions. Pubmaster Paul told us that Patrick Dempsey from Greys Anatomy had been on board with us that week! I never saw him, he must have hid. Of course, I could have been sitting with him at dinner every night and I wouldnt have known it was him, I'm terrible at recognizing celebrities in real life. I told Pubmaster Paul that I hadnt felt well that week and missed the ABC Fan Trivia Contest, and asked if they had added any Lost questions since my last trip. He said they had had Lost trivia on the night S4 premiered and that the winner got a S3 DVD set. The winner had gotten 9/10 questions right. He went out back and got me the question sheet. I got 10/10.  ;D So he gave me this:

The next day we had to leave, and we were sad, but not as sad as when we took off in the plane and Cameron's ears wouldn't pop and he started flipping out. And that was the ONE trip we decided to go ahead and buy the movies right before he started screaming. We ended up all switched around so he could sit next to Mommy. We had to watch the little TVs from one or two seats over because Cam fell asleep after rearranging us. Meanwhile I had a cough so bad that one of the flight attendants came over and asked if I had gotten a doctor's clearance before getting on the plane.

So, all in all, I've had better vacations, but we still had a good time.
Thanks for reading!

Yeah, I'm still happy we were on vacation. It wasn't "magical" but it was better than being home and cooking my own meals and making my own beds! And we are already talking about when to go again, so thats a good sign. On that message board I mentioned there was a family for whom this was their first cruise ever, and she has already posted that they were really disappointed, and they will never cruise again, at least not til the kids are a lot older. I think thats a shame because the ones who have the best time, I think, are the kids. The ones who still think, "Hey, Thats actually MICKEY!!" I forgot to mention it but during the character breakfast, when Cameron lit up seeing Chip and Dale, our server Edward brought Cameron over to see him and told him to run over and give Chip a hug. When he got back he had the worlds largest grin and he hugged me me tighter and longer than he has ever before, like he was so thrilled and he didnt know how else to express himself, like thrilled beyond jumping up and down and screaming.

It's funny, I actually meant to just say, "thanks!" but I can never shut up about my vacations, lol. I'm glad you enjoyed.

That's funny about your luggage!  I am picturing the world'o'baggage on Toy Story 2. :D  I can imagine your stress, though, so I'm glad you didn't have to start your trip with a mess like that!

Nice glasses!  Did you wear contacts or anything before?

That's scary about the sick person that was unloaded in Key West. :-\  I recently watched a 20/20 about medical service on cruise liners, which unfortunately didn't exactly inspire confidence. :-[  It's good to hear how seriously they handled it!

Cam's tie is PERFECT! ;D  You almost got a serious smile.  hehehe  "The clothes make the man" doesn't quite apply to little boys.  (Although I must say- he has grown SO much since the last trip!  He's lost the babyface. :(  Man- it flies by.)

I had to read the section about the Lone Star bar & grill a few times before I understood!  LOL  I was thinking..."They went on a cruise to Texas?" ??? ::) :P  How long did Paul live there before?

WoW- those waves!  Great pics, btw.  If you HAD to have a yucky day like Wednesday, @ least it wasn't earlier in the trip when Cameron would have been less likely to want to stay in the kids' area that whole time!  Pirates IN the Caribbean.  Very clever. :)  Why did the pool overflow? ???

Did Paul have his b-day dinner alone?  I'm laughing & crying on the inside @ the same time over that thought! LOL  WHOOHOO for LOST!  That's awesome that you remember thatit was 9:06. :D  So then you MADE Craphole Island, & then there was Edward from Manchester, & you rocked in the LOST trivia!  The connections!  They're everywhere! lol

Poor Cam's ears. :'(  That has to be horrible.  Any recommendations on how to prevent that?  We're all flying in June.

How could I have said all that one handed the other night? lol

That's funny about your luggage!  I am picturing the world'o'baggage on Toy Story 2. :D  I can imagine your stress, though, so I'm glad you didn't have to start your trip with a mess like that! Amen sister!

Nice glasses!  Did you wear contacts or anything before? I did wear glasses but they were small and almost frameless so if I actually let myself be photographed with them on, they would just look like my face was distorted. Or, you know, more distorted than normal.

That's scary about the sick person that was unloaded in Key West. :-\  I recently watched a 20/20 about medical service on cruise liners, which unfortunately didn't exactly inspire confidence. :-[  It's good to hear how seriously they handled it! I was too, actually. I had heard (probably from that same show) that some ships won't even think about turning around.

Cam's tie is PERFECT! ;D  You almost got a serious smile.  hehehe  "The clothes make the man" doesn't quite apply to little boys.  (Although I must say- he has grown SO much since the last trip!  He's lost the babyface. :(  Man- it flies by.)  I know!  :'( "My Boy!!!" Don't grow up so fast! Oddly enough, though, he looks bigger and older, but he was wearing the same bathing suit in this years pics as he is in last years! And it still looks a little too big for him! lol. Maybe he'll wear it again next year.  :D

I had to read the section about the Lone Star bar & grill a few times before I understood!  LOL  I was thinking..."They went on a cruise to Texas?" ??? ::) :P  How long did Paul live there before? He actually worked there as a comic. They would book him for 2 weeks at a time, and he went there about 8 times in 2 years, so he didnt live there, but spent a LOT of time there.

??? Because the ship was rocking so much that all the water splashed out of the pool, over the already built in splash area and over the two foot high wall around the perimeter!! They had to shut off one whole side of the deck, that was how far it splashed!

Did Paul have his b-day dinner alone?  No, lol, we actually made it up there with him, but I don't think I was able to eat anything. They're everywhere! lol  I know!! I kept hearing the dun-dun-woooosh from when they go to commercial/flashback in my head.

Poor Cam's ears. :'(  That has to be horrible.  Any recommendations on how to prevent that?  We're all flying in June. They say to keep them drinking and swallowing, but even tho he did that, he still had trouble. Actually, I think he did it but after it was too late. One flight attendant said he needed to blow out his ears (holding his nose, keeping his mouth shut and "exhaling", if that makes sense) and then swallow, but I don't know if that was standard procedure or emergency tactic, lol. He has flown probaby 10 times total, and this was the first time he had a problem. At least 4 of those times he was fast asleep and not swallowing at the time of take/off landing. So who knows. I'd say make sure they are all drinking, sucking lollipops/lifesavers or chewing candy or some special treat would be the best route.  :-\ Thats probably not very helpful.

How could I have said all that one handed the other night? lol Yeah, now I completely understand what you meant, lol. Well, thanks for coming back and commenting!

Texy must have seen this post, because he Emailed me some helpful info that is apparently taught in flight school.  He says his girls have used the method (basically plugging nose & closing mouth while exhaling to build that counter-pressure), & it has worked for them.

sorry to say, but yeah... you'd have to go through the tunnel to get to me, but on a weekend it probably wouldn't be too bad. It really does do a good job; as long as it's not, you know, falling on somebody. But thank you for the offer to drive me to the doc! You're so sweet!

Yikes!  How's the eye? ??? :-[  I hope it didn't cast a cloud over your Christmas!

It worked out ok. I went to the ER that night, and was in and out in an hour and a half. There were 2 tears in the cornea right above the pupil, so it didnt effect my vision. I got the gooey stuff to put in the eye and some industrial strength advil. The next morning it was only a tiny bit painful and then only if I let it dry out. Luckily I tear up at the slightest little thing on Christmas so there was not much danger of that happening! ;) ;D  How was your Christmas? I understand congratulations are in order, so... congratulations! lol

Happy New Year to everyone!!

Phew!  I'm glad your injuries were treatable & seem to be healing quickly!  Christmas was great.  The kids received way too many presents (of course ::) :D), so I've had to become the room-cleaning-Nazi-mom since then.  I'm starting to smuggle neglected &/ or junk toys out of their rooms @ night to make sure that all the new things have a place. 8)

Yes, yes, yes...another baby on the way! :)  We're all very excited, but I forget I'm even pregnant most days.  Life goes on! lol  Now we're just gearing up for my 5 y-o's re-rescheduled surgery in a few weeks.  We're just SO ready to have it all behind us!

Hoky moley... I guess I wait so long to check in here that some of the threads I miss! I can't believe I missed this 2 weeks ago! We never go out on New Years Eve, after witnessing a bad accident on one of our first dates. In fact, I'm the only one in the house awake after 9:30. I watched The Full Monty until 11:40 on AMC and then watched the ball drop. Which is somehow exactly what I did the year before.

Hi CC how was the train show? I didn't get to it, was busy with the baby

it was NOT worth the trip. We had gone to this show before a couple of years ago and even tho it's mostly for vendors and dealers, they had about a dozen incredible displays, including a ginourmous one made all of Lego's. This time they had 2 lame displays. One of them was just one engine and 40 coal cars. Paul counted them all, that's how bored he was. Cameron still loved it, luckily. The only good thing was that he saw a HO gauge Acela train set that he wanted. We have told him he can have a "real" train set when he's 7, and this is the one he says he wants now. We told him we're not sure because it's $200, but that we'll see about it in 2 years. The next morning he woke up early, walked into our room and announced he wanted to start earning money to save up the $200 so he can buy the set himself. He has searched the house and found $2 in quarters. He thinks he's close, lol.

yes, it is. It's always exciting when a new president takes over, at least for me.

Cameron has a friend who's mother is from Ireland, we were just talking about it up at the school. She wasnt quite sure what to expect today. And since I'm a font of useless trivia I was having fun telling her about the inauguration speech of William Henry Harrison.

lol - I'll certainly be having the kids tune in this evening - it's one of those days in history! Where were you when.... and all that.

You know what? we watched Hairspray last night and the kids couldn't understand how only 40 years ago black and white kids were not allowed to dance together on TV. You've come a long way baby!!

I agree. Even though he wasn't my candidate, this is still very exciting on a historical level. And I love days like this, when the news stations are all wrapped up over a single story. I'm going to miss the actual event because I will be up at my kids school helping out with lunch, but I'm taping it for my husby and we'll watch it together tonight.

Hey everybody... So over the weekend I had a Lost Rewatch Party. We watched the premiere and discussed all the theories, and I wanted to share it with you all. I blogged about it on my site. I figure it's easier to link you to that then rewrite it all, upload all the pics to photobucket, post the pics, etc. So if you want to see what an Island Buffet consists of, and what my version of Frozen Donkey Wheel looks like, go HERE (http://cayleyhyers.blogspot.com/2009/02/my-lost-party-let-me-show-you-it.html)

Thanks guys! I know I was pretty impressed with myself! ;) ;) ;) ;) There was a small moment there when I was a bit deflated because nobody had heard the term "Frozen Donkey Wheel" before... The joke was lost on them. lol.
And they call themselves "fans." ::) :P ;)  They aren't worthy of the caviar anyway! ;D

Ya know what, you're right!!! :D

Hey Cayley!  Did you watch any of the Duels today?

we had a meeting so we tivo'd it and started to watch it but my dear, wonderful hubby (ok, thats a little sarcastic) started to fall asleep halfway thru the first one. So I woke him up and forced him to  watch Gordon win #1 and we are going to try to watch #2 tomorrow before we go to Disney On Ice.

We have a big Daytona party on Saturday. You doing anything special for the day? (i.e. driving to Boston to watch it with us? ;))

That'd be fun!  Your parties rock!

Nothing special planned.  Today was the first I've watched 'speedweeks' at all.  I was a bit bored with how last season ended.  Tony looked good in the #14 though!  He said on Sirius it was the best car he's ever had at Daytona. ;D

Cameron got his first #14 die cast today, it's kind of exciting! I'm still really rooting for him! But every time they show Joey in his car I have that second where I think, "How much weight has Tony lost???" lol

Post by: Asmodean on February 12, 2009, 10:52:36 PM
I know!  I saw them interview Joey today and he looked like my 11 year old!

I got the nascar catalog the other day.  I might have to get that die cast too.  Looks great!

A few years ago we made Paul a shelf that holds 43 die casts on a simulated banked speedway. You can move the cars around, and Paul always lines them up either how they qualified or how they finished. This year Cam wants one of his own so we're very likely to end up with as close to all the new paint schemes as possible... times 2!!

Good race tonight.  Did ya watch?

I didn't... I couldn't keep my eyes open. I was trying to do some other things because we had to go to Maine the next day but it was no use, lol. I haven't been keeping up with NASCAR lately, but I AM excited for the NH race this year. More importantly I'm excited for Daytona because we tore up the back yard on Saturday, and we're putting in sprinklers, electricity and a new lawn that will hopefully be ready for a kick-ass barbeque for race day. I forgot to tell you, our trip to AZ coincided with the Phoenix race and Paul and my dad got to go. He said it was great, especially the sunset over the track.

Good for you train him young and then whisper at night or put a tape recorder near him so he can memorize the list at night.  Tape pics on his snacks for school.  Remember one day he will have a wife and she will love you for your efforts.

D'oh! I had no idea they were the ones that did that song... I must be slipping, LOL!! I also had no idea they would be at Louden. I will be there. I'm kinda over the whole live NASCAR thing, but my hubby takes it as a personal insult when I don't go with him. Sooooooooooooo........ yeah.

Well, enjoy I have another friend who will be there.

The more the merrier, right? lol

Actually this year may shape up to be better. The hardest part is the long waits before and after the race. We leave the house at 4am and get home around 11pm. The race itself only takes up 3 hrs of that time. Luckily I now have better gadgets to bring along with me to pass the time. Yay for technology! ;D

The traffic is horrific.  We had family friends who lived off 106, oh Cayley the house was beautiful they had refurbished it to it's splendor.  Well, then the track came and they were stuck there.  You couldn't go get milk it was horrible.

I mean they would tell friends not to visit cause of the traffic.  I remember working in Concord and dreading those Friday and holiday weekend drives, especially when there was a race.

Yeah having the electronic gadgets make a big difference since you are sitting there.  Grab some depends or run off the highway and have the world watching you.

but I do admit they try to make things easier.

Oh in a few weeks is Loudon biker week.  Oh I just love it when 100 plus bikes come tooling down main street it is funny!  Take a walk and grab a chair, good coffee or some wine and watch the bikers. ;D

Hi kids!!

(at least, those of you kids who remember me... ;))

Sorry I have been MIA this summer. I needed to devote some time to real-world things. But now that My Boy! is back in school, screw the real world! I missed you guys!!

I am back and well-tanned, 20 lbs lighter and have a husband and son who know what I look like again! I went on 3 trips and got a new backyard, and I spent a lot of time this summer turning a play room into a writing room/office/scrapbooking palace. This means that among other things (like catching up on 40 yrs worth of scrapbooking) I am going to be getting a lot more writing accomplished. Specifically, starting next week I will pick up where I left off with my Season 5 reviews. I hope everyone here had a great summer too!!

Gotta go eat those strawberries now!!! yummmmmmmmmmm!

(Thanks LIL for keeping my thread from disappearing into the bowels of the site!!)
:D

Hi Cayley! Welcome back!  :) It sounds like you had a fantastic summer, I love hearing that. You're probably all recharged. I can't wait to read more of your reviews.

Actually I've been searching the front page trying to organize all my reviews. My sister got into the show and just caught up on season 5 so now I want to send her an easy link to the reviews, but the site and/or my computer's still giving me trouble. Not loading, etc. Would it be ego-maniacal of me to start a thread where I link to each review?

Oh, Madame P! I just remembered I found an avatar that reminded me of your signature. I wonder if the site will let me post it? Let me try...

I'd do it if I were you. I think it has a logical place in the forum, especially if it isn't solely reviews by one person ;)

You could toss a few of Juggy's in there too. ;)

I'm doing pretty good! Just got a job (finally) but I won't start for another few weeks.

Congrats on the job!

Oh I see what your saying; I was thinking recaps when I said reviews. Did he do any recaps? If I put all the reviews in one thread tho it would be pretty much the same as hitting the "episode review" tag button tho. I'll have to give this more thought...

It would be easier for the newbies who don't want to figure out the tags, or only really see the forum. :)

That's such a great picture, Cayley!  Thanks for sharing!  (There's been so many great lines, but for some reason that one just really struck my funnybone.  I think it was the frustrated and petulant tone in Locke's voice...   :D  Both actors just nailed it perfectly.)

I think it would be a great idea to organize the reviews and/or recaps all together, or if that can't be done, to do some links.  I sent a 'non-Forumer-but-Lost-viewer' over here once just for the express purpose of reading your review of... shoot... which eppy... the one with the pic of Ben praying not to get beat up anymore... anyway, she had a hard time finding it.  So having them all together would be great!
