Title: Positive thoughts on the finale
Post by: lostlady on May 26, 2010, 09:12:01 AM
With so many people discussing what they didn't like about the finale I thought why not a thread of the favorite parts of the finale. I loved the expression on Hurley's face when he went and got Charlie. He was so happy!

I liked when Jin sees Sawyer and he smiles REAL big an just says "detective"

I loved Hurley being leader

I loved Ben on the bench

Sawyer and Juliet....I just cried all over the place

and Terry O'Quinn...every scene he was ever in on this show.

Hurley being the leader. I mean that is the coolest thing! Name one person who would do a better job!

Okay, I'll add one more....When Jack tells Locke/MIB/Smokey that he dishoners John Lockes name by wearing his face. Jacks best line imho.

Completely agree - this was awesome! Especially considering Jack's initial feeling towards Locke  ;D

First of all, each of the "epiphany" scenes were all emotional wallops.  I loved each and every one.

Jack's scenes with Desmond: "There's no going back, no do-overs.  Believe me, I already tried that.  What happened, happened"  I'm paraphrasing, but I love that scene.  Look at Jack's transformation just from the S5 finale which was all about undoing everything, to that moment.  And "See ya in another life, brother" - I love that line and the way they used it here.

Kate to Desmond:  "Christian Shepherd?  Seriously?" :D

Flocke to Jack:  "So its you?  Aren't you the obvious choice?"  Great nod to the audience.

Richard starting to age but wanting to live.

Jack and Christian - I *LOVED* that scene.  I know some others didn't, but for me it was spot on.

I honestly cannot think of a single thing about the Finale I did not LOVE. Maybe the credits and knowing there would be no more of it. Favorite part was the exchange between Jack and MiB about whats going to happen at the Light. Priceless.

When Jack laid down to die in the Bamboo thicket and Vincent laid down next to him, so he wouldn't die alone.
While people have been predicting the end of Lost would be Jack closing his eye in the bamboo thicket, having Vincent there as he died was my favorite scene.
Sad.  :'(

I loved when Jack stood up to Flocke and told him he was going with him to the cave and then he would kill him.  The look on everyone else's face was priceless!  Ben has shown he can take a punch willingly to further his plans, Kate has kicked some serious ass, Sawyer is as bad-ass as they come, and Desmond had a new sense of confidence and peace about him, but they gaped at each other, shocked at Jack's lack of fear.  Even Flocke himself looked a little taken aback and unsure of himself, which is unusual for someone who doesn't even blink at bullets!

I was so happy to see Richard and then when I thought I couldn't be happier-- Frank!!!!

I liked that Christian finally behaved like a father to Jack in the end by gently breaking the news to Jack that they were both dead, and then hugging him and offering reassurance.  Maybe a bit cheesy to some people, I know, but also a good sense of closure to others.  :)

And also as mentioned before, the fact that Jack had Vincent with him so that he didn't "die alone."

I always watched the episodes two or three times, but didn't watch the end again,
because I'm afraid I will cry again for two hours.  :-\

Yeah, I really got everything out of the finale that I wanted. I mean as great as some of the twists along the way have been (first time seeing whats in the hatch, first time seeing Dharmaville, "We have to go back, Kate!!") if there would have been a major game changing twist, it would have "created too many questions". I mean just imagine some Planet of the Apes type ending. Yeah, semi-cool factor, but ultimately unfulfilling.

I wanted a happy ending for our characters - CHECK
I wanted a happy ending for the Island - CHECK
I wanted high tension - CHECK
I wanted high emotion - CHECK
I wanted big special effects - CHECK
I wanted to hear "dude" "son of a bitch" & "brotha" - CHECK
I wanted the final shot to be the eye closing - CHECK
I hoped to see Frank and Richard again - CHECK (though I thought they were 100% dead)
I wanted to enjoy the ride - CHECK

I don't think there was any way for that finale to be any better for me. My all time favorite ending to my all time favorite show.

Favorite parts are probably ending with Jack's eye closing, and Juliet and Sawyer reconnecting.  And I liked seeing Christian again.  And the fiery pit that seemed to lead to Hell was a nice image.

This sideways shot of Jack staring down FLocke from a distance as the island is starting to be destroyed:

The fact that the last 5 minutes of the finale had zero dialog (minus one line from Locke to Jack: "They're all waiting for you").

Ben sitting alone outside the church, even though both Locke and Hurley invite him in...very poignant scene. And Ben's reaction to seeing Hurley walk out of the church--the delight and warmth in his "Hello, Hugo" was incredibly sincere.

Vincent laying down next to Jack at the very end (as others have mentioned)...incredibly sad and beautiful at the same time.

Having the last image Jack will ever see in his life be that he did get the plane off the island afterall.

FLocke bleeding for the first time ever after Jack started punching him...and FLocke's expression on his face when he realized he was now vulnerable.

Every single one of the "breakthroughs" in the ALT...all were very emotional. Well, except the Sayid/Shannon one lol...but even that one had me going "Oh, s**t, it's Shannon" and laughing lol...

The moment I realized Hurley, and not Jack, was going to be the new island protector.

Seeing Rose and Bernard as the ones who rescued Desmond from the well.

Locke to Jack in the ALT: "You don't have a son"...that sent chills.

Kate in that dress lol :D...I'm sorry, but when they showed her approaching Jack after the concert had ended and Jack was looking for his "son", and especially when they showed her from the side...hoo, boy. I kept thinking why can't a woman that hot and dressed THAT good ever approach me and say "I've missed you soooo much"? lol

That they actually kept both Richard and Lapidus alive lol.

I think the concept of them of them living together, dying "alone" but living together eternally was a twist that I didn't see coming.  That their bond was that strong that the collective souls/bodies gave them that ability to achieve that.

This group of strangers living in on an island with all the adversity they face in the end they were all happy, comfortable and without issue

Regardless the church scene,

I was happy about the ending because I told myself ok I can live with Sayid, Jin and Sun dead. But not Hurley, Jack, Sawyer and Kate. For a moment I really thought that to be the Island's protector you had to be the last man standing. So ending up with Hurley and Ben on the Island was another twist I wasn't expecting. Bravo!

I loved Ben in the last eppie. Or, I loved him all through the show. haha. <3

After having some of the stuff explained, (dont hate me on that please!) - I really loved Saywer's way of making up for his sins. Even if I always loved Saywer for being bad, and also Kate. (They were my sweethearts because they had done bad things and had bad things happen to them and such..and they were really "difficult" in the start of the show. tbh I actually hated Kate the first episodes, but then I started getting to know her and I loved her) - anyyway, even if I didn't enjoy "good Saywer" too much, it still really melted my heart when I realized he was making up for his criminal life by being a cop.  :'( dunno why that really struck me so much.

Also, I'm so glad they met up again and remembered. I was afraid some might not remember. <3 awww and they were all together and had a good time. And the ending had Jack hug both Desmond, Saywer and Hurley. DesmondxJack and SaywerxJack was a real manlove moment. woo!

(and a very random thought on the last episode, I loved how Sayid looked totally out of his element when he sat in the car as Hurley went to sedate Charlie I think..and Saiyd was sitting there in his pastell-purple shirt, with his seatbelt still on, stretching to look back in the car. hahaha. it was soo odd seeing him that way, compared to how he was on the island)
