Title: Best LOST Memory
Post by: CaseyMac on April 14, 2010, 08:07:44 PM
Let the nostalgia begin. Figured this would be a fitting place for some reminiscing and commiserating.

So what is your favorite LOST moment or memory?

Too many to list, but I loved the reunion between Rose and Bernard when the taillies were brought to the camp.  And Jin and Sun being reunited, too.  I'm a sentimental sap, that's all.

The end of the Constant when Desmond talks to Penny on the phone.  I remember when I watched that I thought, "Well hell they can just end the series now!"

I've got numerous...

but the one moment that I remember yelling out at the TV was when Michael shot Ana Lucia.

this is a vivid memory for me.

Wow, too hard to pick one. But a few things come to mind in 30 seconds:
-Season 2 "Man of Science, Man of Faith," starting with some guy riding a bike and listening to a record...suddenly, BOOM!!! WTF???? HE'S IN THE HATCH??? SOMEONE LIVES IN THE HATCH???
-Season 3 "A Tale of Two Cities", Otherville when we first meet Juliet, the book club, I'm wondering whose flashback this is, then suddenly they all run outside and we see the plane crash overhead. Ben, Goodwin, Ethan...WTF???? THERE IS A VILLAGE ON THE ISLAND?????
-Season 6 "Dr. Linus" when Ben and Ilana were in the jungle and he was explaining himself. One of my favorite scenes ever.
-The first time we "see" Smokey coming through the jungle...WTF IS THAT???
-Michael dying, because my god, I was so looking forward to that.

Those 2 really stand out for me also. The other one that as a huge WTF?!?! was the Season 3 Finale when Jack is at the airport, the car pulls up and out steps....Kate. Holy Snot!! WTF?!?! They got off the Island, and it's not a flashback it's a flash...forward. *brain explodes*

Yeah that Flash Forward there was HUGE. Ab Aeterno was one of my favorites. Love Guyliner. I have a feeling I will be having a new favorite in Across the Sea. Call it a hunch.

The first flash forward has to be the #1 Best Lost memory.  Discovering they got off the island was a jaw dropping game changer.

My 2nd best lost memory is the hatch light turning on...I remember wondering what the heck is going on and the speculations all summer long

My 3rd best lost memory...Arnst go boom...and then a repeat this week with home chick (forgot her name) go boom.

No really.....

I love the suprising season ending moments or begging.

Favorite might be realizing that Kate and Jack were off island future at the airport.
Loved the Juliet baking/bookclub scene and realizing they are on the island, plane crashing and that awesome pan out to show the whole Otherville and island. Jaw dropping moments like that.

I loved the scene at the beginning of There's No Place Like Home Part 1 when we see the Oceanic 6 and then the camera cuts out and we see the plane landing in Hawaii and they come out and are seeing their families for the first time.  There was no dialogue, just music, and in slo-mo, and I was thinking that early on I would have thought that would have been the last scene of the series.

The whole episode with Charlie's Greatest Hits. Great episode.
Absolutely loved that one - so many good scenes in there, and one that comes to mind is Charlie playing "Wonderwall" on the street in London, a mirror image to when he played it in front of Desmond during "Flashes Before Your Eyes."  This was a great example of using the music to illustrate the theme of the episode.

Way too many, of course, but I agree with:

The first flash forward and Jack's "We have to go baaaaack!"

The first visit to Othersville and Ben being left out of the bookclub - oh, yeah, and the whole plane breaking up thing!

And I'd like to add: the first time the timer ran down in the hatch and we saw the Egyptian symbols instead of numbers - I didn't know WTF was going to happen!  I didn't know if they were going to implode, explode, or get transported to Egypt and find themselves inside a pyramid!   :o

Man, so many for me but

Seeing Locke in the wheelchair at the end of Walkabout - realising he was just fine on the island - a real WTF moment

Seeing Hurley's lottery numbers engraved on the side of this mysterious hatch on a "deserted" desert island that our survivors can't seem to open up

The Dharma Orientation film - we still didn't understand a lot after we saw that, but before that the audience was sort of like groping its way around a darkened room - that film handed us a flashlight.

Locke convincing Jack to push the button - "Why do you find it so hard to believe?", "Why do you find it so easy?", "ITS NEVER BEEN EASY!"

Everything about Henry Gale / Ben in Season 2 - just this foreboding sense that we're witnessing this massive mind game with severe or even deadly consequences.

The end of the season 2 finale - the sky turns purple, and the next thing we know we're looking at these two guys in an artic research station - I swear I thought the episode had ended and I'm seeing some cheesy Budwiser commercial, and then all of a sudden its like ok, this is still Lost, and the real world still exists!

Sawyer killing cooper - that was some intense stuff

Desmond and Penny in The Constant

Keamy kills Alex, and Ben summons Smokey to take out Keamy's team

Ben goes to Smokey to be judged and Alex shows up

Ben and Ilana have it out

100% agree!

Also, Hurley and Miles conversation in 1977 about the concept of time travel and what can and cannot happen.
Charlie's final scenes: "Not Penny's Boat"
The moment Sawyer gave Juliet the sunflower... it was such a leap forward for who he was
And probably 100 more (some of which were mentioned above).

My favorite line from the show... Hurley commenting to Kate: "You just totally Scoobie-Doo'd me, didn't you."

OK, I know where you are coming from in that it was a big character moment for him and a real departure from what we had seen, but that may be my least favorite moment. Thats right about when I started calling for the death of whimpy La Fleur and wanted the old badass, nickname giving, gun stealing, womanizing, con man Sawyer back.

Honestly, I like the Sawyer best that can walk both lines... it shows character growth, but maintains the smartass approach to life.  But that's just me.

I see where you are coming from. It's always good to see character growth and it can get stale if its the same thing over and over again. It was just soooo mushy, I was happy when the badass side started to come back, "3 Years, no burning buses, and y'all are back 1 day."

Yeah, "We're gonna have to take the boy" was one of those spine-chilling, OMFG moments.

And it lead to some great Sawyer moments later: "You and I ain't finished, Zeke"... and "That's for taking the kid off the raft"

Juliet wakes up at the bottom of the hole for the Hatch -- the Island was not done with her.  She can't believe she's alive and does not want to starve to death at the bottom there, so she sees Jughead and using all her strength bangs it harder, and harder, and harder, and then BOOM.  Fade to White.

Season 2 was somewhat of a bust, but we did get introduced to Benry. I loved the moment when he was out eating breakfast and he started saying something like if he WAS an Other, he would have sent their friends to a secluded place where they would be ambushed and then exchanged for Benry. He says it is a good thing he is not "one of them", and "You guys got any milk?"

Classic!

Season 2 did have a few good moments.  How about the hatch starting to implode around Locke, and he goes to Desmond "I was wrong."  He looked so scared and flabbergasted, and meanwhile everything metal is bending and breaking and smashing into stuff.

I rewatched the S5 finale yesterday, and I gotta say I really liked the sit-down between Sawyer and Jack:

"I don't speak destiny.  What I do know is that a man does what he does because he wants something for himself.  What do you want, Jack?"

"I had her.  I had her and I LOST her."

"What?  Kate?  Well hell, Doc, she's right over there.  If you want her back just go and ask her."

"No.  Its too late for that."

My favorite memory has to be when Hugo fixed the VW bus and he, Charlie, Sawyer and Jin went on a joyride listening to Shambala. :)

Saddest memory was when Charlie drowned.

Also loved the scene when we first saw Ben's group watch Oceanic 15 flying over the island and breaking in half.  I got chills.

Best memories, hmm..

-The recent reunion of Sun & Jin, but their death together was also the saddest. Kinda like a Titanic moment, you know?

-Another good memory... Hugo drives the Dharma van onto the beach, saving Sayid, Jin and Bernard from the others. Everybody loves Hugo, after all.

Not exactly related to a moment in the show, but - season 3 of Lost and season 1 of Heroes ran at the same time.  Especially since Lost stumbled a bit for the first episodes of season 3, and then went on a long hiatus before resuming, the talk on the net was all about how Lost had lost it and how great Heroes was.  When it came time for each series' respective season finale, the general consensus was still that Heroes was kicking Lost's butt.  After the finalies aired, the general consensus: Heroes fell flat on its face, and as I recall a typical opinion on Lost was "Now *THAT* is how you do a  season finale"  Made me glad to be a Lost fan and to be a "man of faith" :)

And not to brag or anything, but I suppose I was probably reminded of this by the fact that it was announced today that NBC cancelled Heroes.

I cannot believe I did not think of this one...

When Ben took Locke into that cabin, and we were so tantalizingly close to meeting Jacob - the man/myth/legend - for the first time, I am sure that I did not breathe the whole scene.

I was NEVER a fan of the show (or ever heard of it to tell the truth).  One day, I was sitting around channel surfing and came across this show.  It was the Season One Finale...one line from one scene just absolutely HOOKED me.  It was when Mr. Friendly and his crew meet Michael, Walt, Jin, Sawyer (i think he was on the raft) out in the ocean....and Mr. Friendly says "....we're gonna have to take The Boy..."

That blew my mind...and I was a FAN!  Later I found this website and took on the username "The Boy"

Yes!  That one was awesome!!  It was such a sweet twist.  I mean, they are so happy when they see this boat, and you know it's like the very end of the episode and season, and in the back of your mind you're thinking "well I know there are Others out there, but this can't be them, can it?!"  And Friendly was just so smug about it.  It was a great twist and cliffhanger.

Island going *bloop* into the ocean did it for me.  Totally blew my mind.  I was OK with the polar bears, could deal with Smokey and the Hatches and the heiroglyphs and Hurley seeing ghosts and Miles speaking with the dead and aaaallll that stuff.  But the Island can go *bloop*??!?   Really?!?

And I loved the scene right after it happened when Jack was all "No.  Nope.  Didn't happen." and Hurley gives him *that look* and says "Ummm... dude..."   ;D

Oh, and Hurley explaining to his Mom all that happened on the Island.  And she believes him.   :D  Awesome.

You know, that was a real point of recognition that Sawyer really really really is a good guy.  After all that crapola Michael accused him of when they were floating on the little pieces of raft...  Shows that Sawyer really was ticked off about "the kid."

I love all the previously mentioned WTF? moments so instead I'll pick the little moments.
1. The other side of the "no, WE'RE the survivors of Oceanic 815" radio conversation.
2. Hurley and Sayid on the beach listening to Glen Miller, Hurley saying the broadcast could be from any time.
3. Hurley being a big fan of Expose and not knowing that he's on an island with a guest star of the show.
4. Sawyer calling Jin Chewie and there being scenes that exactly mimic scenes from Star Wars involving Michael and Jin. Each speaking a different language but understanding one another, "No, no! This one goes there, that one goes there!" etc. (http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Star_Wars)
5. Libby being both in SRMH and giving Desmond the boat.
6. Getting to hear Mama Cass Elliot from a good vinyl source.
7. All the Gernimo Jackson references scattered throughout the series. It was like all the Big Apple cigarette appearances in Tarantino movies.
8. Unexpected Lost references in places like Chuck, FlashForward and Monty.
9. Sawyer reading Judy Blume with the same seriousness as John Steinbeck.
10. Juliet's hubby catching his last bus.

In other words, all the little things add up to one big "Best LOST Memory".

Man, I completely and totally forgot about the whole radio call - and seeing its flipside in season 2.  Both were moments that blew me away.

My favorite Lost / Star Wars moment was Alex, Kate and Sawyer busting Karl out of Room 23 using "the 'ol Wookie prisoner gag".  Probably Sawyer's best line of the series.

2nd best Star Wars moment - Lucas's recent letter - "don't plan it out, just throw in some father issues and you've got yourself a series" (or something like that) :D

I just rewatched the Incident and it is still mind blowing when Locke is revealed to be in the casket and dead and MIB is in the temple with Jacob--awesome, what a unforseen twist of plot that was!!!

Season One:

- The whole opening scene of episode 1, season 1...just incredibly dynamic with all the plane parts and fire and dead bodies and injured bodies and dazed people and screaming and what not...and seeing Jack take charge almost immediately.

- "We're not the only ones on this island, and we ALL KNOW IT!!" -Locke

- Realizing Locke was paralized before the plane crash, with him looking at the empty wheel chair on the beach...and smiling.

- Sawyer retelling to Jack how he met his father in a bar in Australia while not actually telling Jack that it was his father. Absolutely beautifully emotional moment, for both men.

- The replaying of all the Losties boarding the plane in the last episode of season 1, with no dialog, just haunting music and everyone taking their seats in slow motion...just a TON of emotion in that scene knowing everything that we already know will happen to these characters (like Boone handing the asthma inhaler to Shannon).

- "We're gonna have to take the boy"...jeebus, what a chilling moment and line.

Season Two:

- Jack entering the hatch, gun in hand, and suddenly having that creepy music start playing (creepy within the context of the scene anyway).

- The Dharma training video

- Michael shooting both Anna Lucia and Libby...might be the most "Whoa! WTF?" moment of the entire series.

- "Got any milk?" - Ben, COMPLETELY owning this entire show from that moment on lol. I remember thinking "Holy s**t, who IS this guy?"

- "I was wrong..." - Locke, as the hatch starts to implode all around him.

- The sky turning purple and filling with that bright flash of light...and then seeing the hatch door come slamming down back to earth. Incredible.

The Rest:

- Sawyer's reliving of his time with Juliet after leaving the temple while Kate listened...extremely touching and GREAT acting by Josh Holloway. Kate breaking down and crying afterwards after Sawyer walked away seemed 100% right and completely real.

- Juliet being pulled down the hole in The Incident...power moment as well.

- The moment they first showed that Sawyer, Juliet and Miles hd joined the 1970's Dharma Initiative on the island...and were happy lol.

- Jack and Richard's "dynamite" moment. "Want to try another stick?" *thumbsup*

- Hurley coming to the rescue in the Dharma van and running over the guys about to kill Sayid, Bernard and Jin.

- Charlie's death scene. He had been becoming rather irritating at times to me, but that scene choked me up quite a bit. "Not Penny's Boat"...damn.

- "Help me..." - "Jacob"/whoever in the cabin to Locke, which is why I still want to find out exactly what the hell that scene was about lol.

- "He doesn't get to save his daughter" - Ben after killing Widmore.

- Sayid's incredible ass-kicking scenes while off the island on behalf of Ben (and then later in service of protecting Hurley). Man was one smooth assassin.

- Rose and Bernard telling Sawyer, Kate and Juliet that they are done running around the island trying to save themselves and escape fate, and that if they end up dying in an atomic bomb explosion, at least they're going to be together when they do. They seemed extremely content and happy...and Juliet's lingering look at them both before leaving was incredibly poignant and sad.

Great list! I still remember watching when the pilot first aired, and that whole chaotic scene at the beginning, then after it was over I thought, "Now THAT is how you start a show!"

The rest, as they say, is history. To this day, I still tell people to not bother trying to watch Lost from the middle, just go back and watch that opening scene, then if you want to watch more, go from there. It's how I got hooked.

Oh, one more:

When Michael, Walt, Jin and Sawyer first set sail on the raft Michael made, and Vincent goes running into the ocean to swim after them :(...all I could think was "Poor Vincent, he's so loyal and loves Walt so much." Watching that dog paddling so hard and trying to catch up, only to end up turning around and return to the beach, was really heartbreaking. And the music really underscored it.

OH, and how about the Island disappearing?!?!?!?  "bloop"

This was the moment I went from being fanatical to casual observer.  Considered giving it up, but I was too far along.

Favorite episode: The other 48 days - The story, the music, cinemetography; everything but Ana Lucia

Favorite moment: Season 2 open - learning about Des and the hatch

Ana Lucia was the worst part of the show. Just standing there she annoys me. Just watched ? last night, and her standing there telling Eko he had to help John I was completely annoyed.

I think my favorite Lost moment was the Pilot trailer....I knew this show was something special the first trailer I saw!

Some others:

Season 1:

Locke confessing to Sayid that it was he who knocked Sayid out with the tree branch - probably the first big mystery ever to be answered on the show.

Jack beating the hell out of Ethan after Ethan had previously bested him with apparently superhuman strength

Season 2:

The moment when Desmond first appears to Jack and Jack remembers him

Locke, after viewing the orientation film, speaking for himself and the entire audience when he says "We're gonna have to watch that again"

Jack's anger as he's questioning Desmond if he ever thought the button was a joke

Season 3:

Charlie making his "greatest hits" list - especially when he gets to #1 and he writes to Claire "The night I met you" - I don't usually choke up but that one got me pretty good.

Sawyer's conversation with Cooper, culminating with Sawyer offing Cooper

Mikhail, to Sayid and Kate:  "Why do we continue this charade, when we all know it has moved to the next phase?"  An allegory for the show at that point, I think.

The back and forth between Locke and Ben in "The Man From Tallahassee"  Ben:  I've lived on the island my whole life, what makes you think you know more about it than I do? Locke:  Because you're in a wheelchair, and I'm not.  Locke:  What makes you think you can possibly help me?  Ben:  Because I'm in a wheelchair, and you're not

Sayid, arms bound behind him, takes out the Other using nothing but his legs, and snaps the guy's neck.

Locke knifing Naomi and then threatening to kill Jack, only to resolve himself that Jack was going to call for help

Season 4:

All of the freighter-folk flashbacks - Charlotte discovering polar bear remains in Tunisia, Farraday crying inexplicably when the news report about 815 comes on, and Frank recognizing that the sunken pilot wasn't the real pilot of 815.

Keamy Kills Alex & Ben summons Smokey

Hurley, Ben, and an Apollo bar

Ben:  You couldn't find the antheriums, could you?

Jack denying the island was moved by Locke, and Hurley saying well what do you think happened then?

Season 5:

Ben:  "That was my lawyer"

Ben takes out Ceasar with Ceasar's own gun

Sawyer lamenting how he lost Kate and now she doesn't even matter to him any more, only for her to show up at the end of the episode

Smokey judges Ben

Jeremy Bentham goes to Kate .... "I was angry"  "Look how far you've come"

Jack:  Whereever you are John, you must be laughing your ass off.

Jack refusing to help Ben

Kate later asking Jack "do you know who you sound like?"

Ben saves Locke from hanging himself, then promptly strangles him.

Hmmm...let's see...

In the beginning when they first heard the french woman on the radio and Shannon translated.  Sayid saying it had been repeating on a loop for 15 years.  I remember feeling really creeped out by that whole scene.

The "we're going to have to take the boy" moment on the raft.  Again, that really creeped me out.

Locke and Desmond in the hatch when the everything goes crazy (the first time) and Desmond almost whispers, "I think I crashed your plane."

Charlies whole death scene and "Not Penny's Boat"  so sad.

The phonecall between Des and Penny on the freighter.

The what the heck moment of "we have to go baaaack."

Pretty much every season finale.

I also loved all of the touching moments between the group, the reunitings, the montages, usually the stuff played in slow motion, and that damn music just made every moment great.  I've had "sad lost music" in my head all week and it's killing me that it's almost over.

I didn't give Lost a chance during the 1st season.  I got hooked that summer with reruns, when I realized how awesome of a show it was.  That's one of my favorite moments...when I first got hooked.

Ben telling Jack the Red Sox won the World Series, and then playing the final out on the vcr for him since he didn't believe ("you could have said any other team...").

Besides for me being a huge Sox fan, it was just so cool to see the look on Jack's face when he realized, for the first time, that the outside world does still exist, and the Others actually had contact with it.

Charlie saying something like "Where are we guys?" that is how I remember the line although I may not be correct...and I was thinking the same thing. I loved seasons 1 and 2. I enjoyed being a member of this website! Ya'll had great insight, many of you called it very early! And I loved the last few seconds of the show. A dog come to be with a man as he closes his eyes.  Indeed we all die sometime.

Way too many to mention but a few that come to mind where the ones where I went WTF..

Topping that list was the pullback shot showing the Dharmaville barracks

Dr. Arzt blowing up made me go whoa didn't see that coming lol

Loved the Jin and Sun reunion when he returned from being with the Tailies but then that was completely overshadowed by Rose and Bernard.. what a moment

Cried when Charlie left his DriveShaft ring in Aaron's cradle.. and then loved when Sun found it

But I think the most heartfelt moment was the phone call between Desmond and Penny .. wow that was just amazing.  Followed up by them seeing each other again on the boat..

Charlie dying.. no words :(

Add to that all the amazing one-liners we got for 6 years .. the best of which pretty much came from Michael Emerson and his unbelievable portrayal.. Can never forget ... Do you guys have any milk?

I'm not sure if this has been posted (and I'm not reading all 5 pages to find out) but Locke beating the hell out of the hatch door and screaming. Then, when all hope seems lost and when Locke seems like he's at wit's end a light illuminates the forest.

It's that sort of wonder, intrigue, and phenomenal acting that marked this show as a masterpiece.

Mine is a bit weird but i guess you could say its because of my appreciation for great acting.

I will NEVER forget the scene in "The Brig" with Sawyer and Anthony Cooper. The emotions that Sawyer displayed in that scene were extremly moving and I hope he won an emmy for that because if he didn't... the system's rigged lol

it's hard to choose "the" wtf moment of the series, as there were so many.  some old-school folks may remember me as a sappy romantic, so it won't surprise you that my favorite scene is when sawyer flashes back and sees kate helping claire deliver aaron.  second fave is the Shambala scene.  hm.  two sawyer scenes.  :wicked:

When the hatch door dropped on Locke, revealing the ultraviolet map of the Island - mad!!!
Also, when Jack and Kate kissed, loved it...

I didn't realize until the last show how much I really really LOVED Claire and Charlie. They were so sweet with each other..the peanut butter...Charlie taking over the role as Aaron's dad...Him calling Aaron Turnip Head. LOL

I loved the friendship that grew b/w Hurley and Sawyer...and of course all the nicknames. Jumbotron being one of my favorites.

Like someone else said, I love the reunions between couples.

I guess this is why the little things aren't bugging me....All my favorite parts involved the relationships of the characters, not so much the mysteries.

For me it was the pilot.....the first time we hear the smoke monster and see the trees being knocked down, I was "HOOKED".
When Jack closed his eye at the end.....I felt a profound sense of loss.
I feel as if an old friend has died. I will be a LOST fan forever.......4 8 15 16 23 42.......

Hands down:  the episode where Sun is giving birth in the hospital after being rescued.  We see Jin trying to buy a baby gift and as he is delayed we are afraid he will miss the birth.  Then we find out that these two events were not both flashforwards of the same time period, but that Jin's was a flash back and he had died on the freighter - missing the birth.  That was a wonderful devastating reveal done through inventive non-linear story telling.

..and ANY time Desmond was on screen.

Here's one that needs to be on the list, reflecting a couple months later...

Jack coming to his father's coffin, putting his hands on it (like he did when he saw Locke's coffin the first time), taking a deep breath and feeling all the pain and memories, then opening it to find it empty.

Pause a second....

"Hey kiddo."

"Dad?"
