I thought it was ok. Not sure how they can keep it going as a series. Thought they gave away way to much for a first episode. Already know the sides people are on and that there already were aliens here earlier. We know the betrayl of her partner. Not sure they can keep it going without dragging it along.

Yeah, I kinda liked it so I'm going to keep watching.  Elizabeth Mitchell is amazing.  Though I was surprised, too, that they gave away quite so much at the end - granted, I had kind of assumed as much, though the partner betrayal caught me offguard.  Hopefully they can turn this into something more than a simple man vs. alien thing.  It definitely has potential, and I like the cast and the rhythm.

I didn't watch it (I'm just not around a TV at night  Embarrassed), so I'm about to wildly speculate, lol. Usually there are two reasons for giving a lot of information in the first episode. The first is that they want to demonstrate that the viewer will get rewarded with answers to a mystery, instead of stringing them along week after week (*ahemLOSTahem*)... the second is that the things they reveal in the first episode aren't a part of the larger mystery/mythology, the series focus will be something else. Maybe figuring out how these things came to be, or how people deal with the fallout from these reveals (like FlashForward).

But like I said, idk for sure, I didn't watch it. Pure speculation as a writer of stories.  Grin

Good insight, Mrs A!  I guess my concern stems from that I am not sure where else they can be going with an overall mythology/mystery - they pretty much answered what I was wondering about.  But again, I would have to assume that if they are planning to make this into a full serialized TV show, there has to be more to it, or else it wouldn't work and ABC wouldn't be airing it.  And the pilot was interesting, nicely produced and I thought it was pretty well-written.  So we'll see what happens, huh.

Sometimes networks don't think things through, though.  Roll Eyes I'll see if the pilot is On Demand, I wanted to see it anyway. Then I can actually make an informed post, lol!

I didn't really care for it, but for now it's the best thing in it's time slot so it will probably do well enough to stay on for a while.

I found it mildly interesting. It was good to have on in the background. I love Elizabeth Mitchell, so that was the draw for me. I will probably keep watching each week while I'm doing something else. It's not like you have to hang on every word and gesture like when watching LOST. I just don't see how interesting/creative the plot line can be...man vs. alien (and reptilian at that)...woohoo!  Roll Eyes

That's pretty much how I feel about it, but I do have to hang on every word and gesture whenever I'm watching something for the first time, no matter what it is. A lot of people spent all that time and work to make it. I just feel bad if I'm not taking it in.

Exactly, as I recall, the original went...It had a set path, things were good, aliens ok, nice story, then all of a sudden it went soap opera, the main theme was just a back drop and all the side stories about the characters....which is fine in some cases, characer development, but not in this instance, it was just a strive to prolong its death LOL

Maybe they didn't give away that much other than there are sides/conflicts and converting folks to betray other humans.

Ummm if desperate housewives can continue on for year six it is possible they can drag it out.  But as it was a series before what might keep it alive is the one thing that keeps most stuff keeps alive gratuitous sex and Evi!

An article by  Zach Oat, TWoP | Monday, November 16, 2009

We haven't decided whether we love the Visitors or hate them yet, but we'd be pretty sure they didn't have our best interests at heart even if we hadn't watched the 1983-84 TV series that ABC's new "V" is based on. We put together this guide to the new series to help you make sense of what you've seen so far, what came before, and what may be yet to come.

A is for Aliens
In the very first episode, aliens arrive on Earth and tell us that they will share their technology in exchange for a particular mineral they need.

B is for Baccarin (Morena)
She stars as Anna, the lead Visitor, but is best known for Joss Whedon's "Firefly."

C is for Chestnut (Morris)
He plays Ryan Nichols, a Visitor who's been on Earth for years gathering info for his bosses.

D is for Dale Maddox
Played by the amazing Alan Tudyk, Maddox is an agent at the Department of Homeland Security and another undercover Visitor.

E is for Erica Evans
E is also for Elizabeth Mitchell, the "Lost" star who plays a tough Homeland Security agent who's also a single mother.

F is for Father Landry
The existence of aliens has shaken this character's beliefs to the core, and he doesn't trust the Visitors -- with good reason.

G is for Guinea Pig
One of the most indelible images in the original "V" was beautiful alien leader Diana unhinging her jaw to swallow a guinea pig whole.

H is for Half-Breeds
Humans and Vs can apparently cross-breed, so expect to see some hot V-on-human action, with all of the expected consequences.

I is for "Independence Day"
The sight of massive flying saucers hovering over Earth's major cities from the original "V" was poached by this hit movie.

J is for Jumpsuits
Nothing against the new show's stylishly neutral grey suits, but back in 1983, the Visitors used to rock bright red jumpsuits. Much cooler.

K is for Kenneth Johnson
The creator of the original "V," who also worked on "The Six Millon Dollar Man," "The Bionic Woman" and "The Incredible Hulk," among many other shows.

L is for Lizard People
Underneath their skin, Visitors are actually reptilian humanoids.

M is for Marc Singer and Michael Ironside
The two coolest heroes in the original series, playing Mike Donovan and Ham Tyler, respectively.

N is for Nazis
The 1983 "V" was largely an allegory for how the Nazis rose to power in Germany.

O is for Obama
The new series, in adapting the original series' idea of saviors who are too good to be true, has inadvertently found parallels in the current presidential administration.

P is for Peace Ambassadors
The Visitors have begun a Peace Ambassador program, in which humans can volunteer to spread the word of the Visitors' supposed good intentions.

Q is for Questions
Humans have a lot of questions for the Vs, like "Why do you all look like supermodels?" Luckily, the Vs are able to deflect most of them using the human trait known as "humor."

R is for Red Dust
One weapon the humans used against the Visitors back in 1984 was a type of bacteria they called "the Red Dust," which is lethal to the aliens but not harmful to humans.

S is for Sleeper Cell
Homeland Security Agent Erica Evans' job is to investigate possible terrorist threats, such as sleeper cells that may actually have been created by the Visitors.

T is for Tyler Evans
Agent Evans' son Tyler is a troubled teenager who's fascinated by the Visitors.

U is for Underground Human Resistance
Just as in the original, some humans band together to oppose the Visitors, and each time a new member joins, they cut them to prove that they're human.

V is for Vandervoort (Laura)
Best known as Supergirl on "Smallville," she plays a Visitor who recruits humans for the Peace Ambassadors.

W is for Wolf (Scott)
We aren't sure whether to love or hate him as Chad Decker, ultra-ambitious the news reporter on the new "V."

X is for X-Ray
We have to wonder what a Visitor looks like under an X-ray machine. They're human-shaped, but there have to be differences in skull shape or bone structure, right?

Y is for Yagher (Jeff)
He played Kyle Bates in the original "V" regular series and since then has guest-starred on everything from "Seinfeld" to "Bones."

Z is for Zorro
Both Zorro and the Visitors wore masks and both left their initials all over the place. Could Zorro have been a...? Nah.

I really like this show so far. The latest episode was really awesome, especially the end when the camera zooms out past our solar system, outside the Oort cloud, and into another star system (possibly Sirius?)... I want to be spoiled as to what these V's want!
