Yeah, that's the point Miles brings up. The Losties don't know what happened, so how can they think that anything they do will change anything? There's always the possibility that whatever they try to do is exactly what they've always done.

And there's no way of knowing if the bomb went off. The flash could have been from the bomb, or it could have been from the electromagnetic energy pocket. Either way, it either always happened or they changed the past. TPTB beat us over the head with Whatever Happened Happened for what, 15 episodes? Then introduce The Variables in one of the last few episodes... so what are we supposed to believe now? Sneaky, tricky, tptb!
