Is Locke, Locke?

My husband used to work in a funeral home years ago, and so I asked him last night how long an embalmed body (using modern methods like the Hoffs-Drawler Funeral Home would use) should "last."  He seemed to think it would be in the ballpark of a week before you'd start noticing "things," although heat and humidity would speed things up a bit.  So... that doesn't really tell us much, unless we know for sure how long it's been since Locke died.  With all that time-skipping, it's hard to tell.  I tend to think about a week, though, I guess.

The time-frame for the Bentham episode is all wrong. Locke is clean at funeral, but with all the bruises on the hanging scene. The meeting with Jack in the hospital should have happened months before the funeral.
Anyway, I consider the state of the body another flaw of the production of the show.
And Unlocke knows things that only Locke could now, and the same applies to Esau. That entity is weird, and I can't find a good explanation about who or what it is.

Well, we know Smokey can "scan" people because it happened to Eko. After he was scanned Smokey came to him again as Yemi. Locke has also come face to face with Smokey twice before. He was probably scanned at that time too. Perhaps the scans can see their future as well as their past? That could explain why fake Locke has all his memories. Either that, or Mr. Blackshirt is able to see all the events happening on the island through his "eye" or Smokey (Locke did refer to it as "the eye of the island") and knows what has transpired. Hrmm, in saying that I've opened up another question. How does he know about the stuff that happened to Locke while he was off the island? Like Ben killing him for example.

Could it be that Locke has always been possessed by Nemesis ever since 815 crashed?  Which is how he knew Ben killed him?

I keep thinking that Locke's body was possessed by Jacob or Nemesis, but some of Locke remained, and was gradually taken over completely the more time he spent on the island.

Whats troubling is the fact that we know fake Locke isn't the right body. Real Locke's body was in the crate...

RICHARD: Where did you find him?
ILANA: In the cargo hold of the plane we came here on... in a coffin.

So it's not that Mr. Blackshirt inhabited the actual body of Locke. He just sort of took on his form...

Ahhh...yes...took his form...that's definitely more accurate than 'possessed'.  Thanks for pointing that out!

Well after the episode aired I too thought that he just took over Locke's body. It was only until we started talking about this that I realized Ilana had found the real Locke's body right where it was supposed to be; in the coffin on the plane. So that tells us that the Locke that has been taken over by Mr. Blackshirt is not the body of our John Locke. So how was he able to do that I guess is the real question.

I agree that the timeline is messed up, but the issue about the bruising isn't really a factor, because the mortuary would put makeup and what have you on him to make him look more "natural". He could still be all bruised up under the makeup.

I'm glad you had the thought about the "scanning" too Griz. I was saying the same thing and it seemed like that point was being ignored.

I read the entire page about "the monster" yesterday after you told me to site where I had heard about the spiders haha. It was a great read. And they definitely want us to know about the scanning. Seems important. What about the whole weighing your heart against a feather thing? Could that be a more accurate description of what Smokey is actually doing when he "scans" you?

Since we are talking about Locke and Smokey I thought I'd have my say and let you ponder something.

I have been sitting here tonight going through some of my music videos on youtube and came across this one:

I thought it was nice to remember them in the early days and it make you realise how much they have changed and what they have been through.

Now.....If you listen to about the last 2 - 3 secs of the clip, when the camera revolves around to locke's face....quite sinister looking too if you ask me.... Is that the sound of Smokey I hear

I couldn't really hear anything that would suggest it was a Smokey sound. More like just an ominous sound before the ending LOST. I agree with the look though... very sinister.

I think this is where you get into some confusion about it. I mean, Smokey may not be weighing your heart against the weight of a feather, but maybe that's how the egyptians interpereted it. It seems to me that after Smokey scans you, then you are either allowed to live, or it kills you. So, I don't know if it equates to the ancient egyptian "folk lore" or whatever we want to call it.

Im rewatching the series again and i jus saw this the other day and i did notice this part as well... if you do strain your ears you do hear somethign that sounds like the "woooooooo" part of the smokey sound... and there are the clicks at the end but they are not the normal clicks of smokey.. the ones that are Lockes calculator.. thats not them.. its different clicks... but i agree.. ominous and eerie.

I'm with you Griz, I didn't hear anything besides the eerie sound. Nothing like Smokey to me at all.
