Yes, Locke was never special. Poor Locke. He died in vain.

Richard mentioned when he was asking Jack about John being special that he had visited him 3 times.  I can think of 2.
1.  When he was born at the hospital.
2.  When he visited John and gave him the "which one is yours" test.

So when was the 3rd visit?  It wasn't the invite to science camp via pamphlet.

Don't think we know yet.  So far, we know of three visits off Island by Richard - Locke right after his birth, Locke to test him, and recruiting Juliet.  But Juliet happened circa 2001 or 2002, well after Richard told Jack this in 1977.

Somebody should have told him he CAN'T be special. ;D

Last episode Jack tells Kate that he doesn't think Locke really was crazy. And then he tells someone (who?) that they should trust Locke. I need to watch this episode again tomorrow. Does Jack know that the Locke on the island isn't really Locke?

I'm really sad about Locke...he had a lot of sh*t happen over his lifetime.

Locke was special. Not in any way he would have wanted to be, however. I feel real bad for Johnny Locke.

Jack thinks that Locke is dead.

I was really disappointed to learn that Locke really was dead after all.  He wasn't special...he was just really pathetic.

There is no doubt Jacob wanted Locke to be alive for a reason. Maybe so he himself could be double crossed inorder that he could tripple cross as a result. Ben and Richard will put it to rights.

I agree.  But I'm not sure it will be Ben and Richard.  I think the island's life giving properties are no longer going to be high-jacked by The Nemesis because of Ben and Richard.  But I think the real John Locke has a relationship with the island that will be rewarded.  Season Five was about the work of the Deceiver.  I think Season Six is going to be about the work of the Healer - the Island.

John Locke was special, very special.

He was a very special patsy. He was set up to become the guy that would be the loophole to kill Jacob. He was setup early in life and fell for it all.

Hopefully the "incident" somehow ends up with him alive again.  Locke's the only character I really care about having a happy ending or at least a heroic sacrifice.

tottally agree locke was the only character after sawyer i really liked , the fact that he is still dead is shocking ,i dont like the idea he died for nothing ..i hope he does turn out to be special  but i dont think he can get resurrected again becoz,  ben was screaming loud that dead is dead even the island cant  bring them back to life  :(

If John isn't special, then why did he draw a picture of the smoke monster when he was a kid? When Richard goes to give him his test, the picture is on the wall and John says he drew it himself.
