I'm going to go out on a linb and say that there are two types of theorys going on here: one is that time is a loop and that cycles are repeating themselves, once when things didnt happen a certain way, and then another alternate timeline where things then happen... Then theres the theory that there is one timeline where things happen onceand thats the way it's always happened. I believe in the one timeline, as in: if on Sept. 22, 2004 the losties crawled out of the plane wreckage and found a textbook of the history of the island, it would say that in 1954 a guy named Locke walked into a camp and told Richard he should go see him get born and a guy named Faraday told them to bury their bomb. I think whatever we have seen time related is how it happened, not just what might happen in a certain alternative timeline. So to me it's actually not confusing at all. But I don't think my theory is all that widely accepted, and will be thoroughly debunked if Jack changes the timeline with the bomb.

I think its great  Wink  and I agree and I will be very umm pissed? if Jack changes things with the bomb
I think Jack's involvement with the bomb is exactly what happened and what will lead to the incident as we know it (well what little we know about it)  I don't think he will prevent the hatch from being built or the button being pushed or the crash of 815 or any of the the things he thinks he will change.

The only change I see is in HIM.  I wonder if they will all come full circle like that?

I'm with Deb and Cayley on this one - Jack trying to do something with the bomb is what's going to cause the Incident.  By trying to prevent the incident, they play a role in causing it, just like they always did.

The thing that troubles me is...  Richard told Sun that he saw them all die.  And that just can't happen.

lol! You don't have to take it back... aw, but he's not a doofus! hmmm... or maybe he can be. Does that detract from his attractiveness?  Undecided I really don't know.

He's very mysterious, I agree. Especially recently... I always thought he told the truth, even if he didn't explain things very well. Now I wonder... But if I can look at him as I wonder, it's not so bad.  Wink

Again, why not? Is it just that you don't want a series 6 without them? But with the non-linear storytelling they could still get to be in it.

I just replayed the episode.

Interestingly, at the plane, John gives Richard a medical kit but he does not tell Richard to give the compass to injured John. Either we weren't shown that part, or Richard takes the initiative.

I still want to believe Richard has a younger version of the compass.

You know I wasn't going to go there but I hope to heck Jack isn't going to wreck things.
Regarding Richard seeing them all die, odd didn't he meet some of them when he met Locke or has his time only been with John?  He met Kate, Sayid, Sawyer and Jack when the ambushed Keamy didnt' they?  He made a deal with Kate?  So he conviently forgets he just saw them three years ago?

I agree there is something odd with his character and what we thought was good just may be something else. I think there is a thread about this and will dump thoughts there.

CC and LGD - nice jobs wrapping things up.  I have to sit down and sort this out Grin  Yes, LGD why did you do this to yourself! Grin

But Richard know that in 1954 Locke gave him the compass that Richard gave to him. I am not certain but I think Locke said he got it when he was shot.

I just heard a podcast with TPTB and they have stated that the compass is just one of those things stuck in time... there is no origin cept that they say " which came first the chicken or the egg?" so who got it first... locke or richard... they said sometimes its more mysterious to have a conundrum with no solution... like the well rope that lead locke to the wheel... and about the decay of the compass happens within the time that richard keeps the compass for since the episdoe Jughead. just one of those things that doesnt have an answer.

The guy masquerading as Locke? I'm officially calling him Bocaj.  I don't care if anyone else is on board.  Just know that when I use the name Bocaj, I'm speaking of the Anti-Jacob.  Oh...I may call him that too.

It's official, in my book he is Bocaj and/or AJ.  You've been warned Wink

Cayley I agree.  I think the problem comes in when posters assume Jack will change the timeline.  So far, we have not been shown that he has/can/will.

I'd REALLY like to know where Locke got such "impeccable timing" though! How did HE know when that was, particularly since he wasn't there for very long?
Hmm, I hadn't thought about that, but yeah. How would he have known down to the minute when to show up to look for himself? He didn't know time or day the first time during the flashes, did he?

Locke answered this when Ben asked him the exact question. Locke said, "The island told him." There is no possible way that Locke would know the exact year and time of when his leg would be wounded. This was proof, to me at least, that the island really is giving Locke information. How else could he have known?

After Locke's resurrection, he has incredible knowledge of things concerning the island. I think the island literally has revealed and is continuing to reveal things to him. In earlier seasons, John got his guidance through prophetic dreams, maybe he is still having dreams giving him vital information, we just haven't been given an episode, yet, devoted to how the island is telling him things.

I agree with you patrixmith. I think the island may have shown him things while he was "dead".

Yeah, I heard the podcast, and I think that they gave a very WEAK explanation. Basically, it's just a compass, and it has no origin, it decays but it doesn't disintegrate. Why? Mysterious are the ways of the Lost. That's just weak, man. If Richard had two compasses, and he gave Locke the other one in 2007 (the 54 yo one, not the 108yo), it would all make sense. But no. They only have one compass, and it's 'mysterious'. No further explanations. It is a paradox, and they did say no paradoxes, but who cares about that anyway?

So take the show as it is, folks! Some mysteries will not be answered...
