I think he's still mooching around "his" island. Would make for good storey telling. And Horris has the plans and was seen (in a vision type thing) building "the cabin" so i'd hedge my bets that way.
Another thought that crossed my mind was that everything in Lost seems to be about equality/ballence/tit-for-tat type morals, and if smokey can take life, maybe he can also give it back. (and not just in the form of visions).
Like your thinking MB, looks like we're on the same wave length mate!

I can tell that BlackString is a hottie cause I've got effing EYES. lolol...
The quote by Mrs. A. is true, and in no way makes BlackString an egomaniac by having it in his signature. He is hot. You all know it.

I'm so not a thread-shredder... Have you never come across BobBXYZ (or whatever he's called)? He's very grumpy.

Yes, the way I see it, he most likely took up residence in the cabin after the purge (or else he'd be sharing it with Horace and the missus!), OR maybe after the Incident? So were was he "residing" before the cabin and WHEN did Horace build the cabin? Is it significant he said it was for him and "the missus" and not the family, as you would expect after they had Ethan? Hmmnn but then he must have built it before '77 and not post Purge. I just confused myself again! Another thought that crossed my mind was that everything in Lost seems to be about equality/ballence/tit-for-tat type morals, and if smokey can take life, maybe he can also give it back. (and not just in the form of visions). I like that thought too! I've posted somewhere else that I've always believed the ying/yang, opposites and 2 sides references in Lost will be important!Like your thinking MB, looks like we're on the same wave length mate!

I think Horace builds the cabin after 1977, but obviously before 1992. I don't think it's already been built. He could still be building the cabin for "him and his missus" even though they have a child. It's a tight knit community, leave the youngster behind when you go to your getaway? Also, we don't actually know that Horace is Ethan's father do we? Father FIGURE, yes... but biological father? Don't know.

Well she wasn't pregnant when Paul died. Then three years later she's married to Horace and goes into labour. Unless it took her 3 year to carry the child to birth... I'd say its a safe assumption that Horace is Ethan's father. Of course we all know the saying about when you assume.

I was just saying we don't really know, for those in the "Amy's an undercover other" camp the father COULD also be an other.

Doesn't Horace mention something about it being '12 years ago' when he's starting to build the cabin when Locke is having that 'dream' involving him? I can't remember the details regarding what year Locke is in at the time etc... I'm sure someone will put me straight and smack me down on this! lol

2004....Horace died in The Purge, so he died 1992. Ethan would have been 15 during the Purge (I don't know what that has to do with anything, I'm just trying to keep everyone straight in my mind, lol).

I'm still trying to figure out whether all these years have any significance or not! I'll formulate some more before I spout something idiotic and obvious! So, he was building it around the time of the purge, or was he just saying he'd been dead twelve years in the context of Locke's vision? I think it's caffeine time! lol

See, I don't know now. I thought he was just telling Locke that he had died 12 years ago, oh and that he built a cabin, but I didn't think the two were related. I think he did finish it... but then there's the question as to whether his cabin is Jacob's cabin... and if it is (which I do believe), why did Jacob take it over? Is this evidence that Horace was an undercover Other? It's totally caffeine time, DB! lol

Good point(s). But I am willing to say that I am sure its the same cabin. Because in the dream he tells Locke he needs to find him. And if he finds him, he'll find Jacob.
From lostpedia
HORACE: Hello there.
LOCKE: Who are you?
HORACE: I'm Horace. Whew!
LOCKE: And what are you doing out here?
HORACE: Oh, building a place--a little getaway for me and the missus. No, I mean, sometimes you need a break from the D.I., y'know? The DHARMA Initiative? (Laughs) I'm not making any sense, am I?
LOCKE: No.
HORACE: That's probably because I've been dead for 12 years.
[Grunts]
[thud]
HORACE: Hello there. You gotta find me, John. You gotta find me. And when you do, you'll find him.
LOCKE: Who?
HORACE: Jacob.
[Horace chuckles.]
HORACE: He's been waiting for you a real long time, man.
HORACE: I'm Horace.
[Grunting]
HORACE: Godspeed, John.
[Thud]
[birds chirping]
[Locke awakes]

And I say that because what did Locke find in Horace's pocket? A map to the cabin.
