I don't have the episode saved, but are you sure that Illana said "Do you know what lies in the shadow of THE statue?"
I ask because after looking at it several times, when Bram asks the question to Miles he definitely says "Do you know what lies in the shadow of A statue?"
"A," as in statues in general, not "THE" as in specifically the four toed statue.
May not be significant, or just a continuity error, but that's what he says.

I am starting to think that this a riddle, and has nothing to do with 4 toed statue that we have been obsessing over for the past 5 seasons
they are just messing with us

So the Shadow Assault Team is for sure anti-Widmore. They know Miles is a child of DI so I'm on board with them being second generation DI. Now, does that make them a third faction led by Eloise? She doesn't come across as a faction-leader to me, certainly not someone who wants to take over by force. Daniel has already gotten himself on the inside of the original DI by 1977 and she knows about the Lamp Post, though, so that aligns her with DI.
But I can also see Ben wanting a better-armed fight squad in response to Widmore's attempt to take over the island.

what do you mean by that please explain. I don't think Ben and Eloise are exactly friends at all. I think Eloise used ben to get her team to the island via the plane w/ oceanic 6 + Locke onboard.
I get the feeling that Ben and Eloise are most deffintiely not friends, but that they know about each other. I mean Ben needed to hear from Locke who he was suppossed to go see in LA, and then he killed him, so it seemed to me that Ben didn't know that Eloise was in charge of the Lamp Post.
I agree Ben and Eloise are not friends. I don't think Bram and Ilana work with Ben, but that being said felt he had something to do with Ilana finding him and bringing him to the island. Even as I'm writing this I'm still trying to make all the pieces fit on this one. I felt they were working for Eloise. But I guess that whole scene with the crate and Ilana and Ben could have been something more.

I think I'm all mixed up because it looks like the quote is a little screwy there.

I am pretty convinced that Bram/Iliana are Dharma and Ben and Widmore are warring "others" but they do both hate Dharma so maybe they will join forces to fight Dharma The Next Generation

How did this "new" Dharma know to be on that specific flight to get back to the island?

I have said it before, they are just like Jill the Butcher, real world others
This is the side I'm liening on too. I like the idea that the others have a presence off the island, that they are a much larger group of people than we thought.

Whoever they are working for, they must have some affiliation with Hawking, to know that Flight 316 was headed for the Island. According to the Lostpedia timeline, Ilana told Sayid she was taking him to Guam, around the same time that Hawking revealed Flight 316's destination to Jack, Ben, Sun and Desmond. http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline:2005_and_beyond5th day after Locke's death (Wednesday)"He's Our You" Sayid goes to a bar and, while drinking MacCutcheon whisky, meets Ilana. They flirt, and end up going to a hotel room. Ilana holds him at gunpoint and reveals she is a bounty hunter who has been employed to take Sayid to Guam by the family of Peter Avellino. "316" Before sunrise, Eloise shows Jack, Ben, Sun, and Desmond the DHARMA station called the Lamp Post which predicts the next location of the Island, explaining that Ajira Airways Flight 316 would put them in the right spot in the "window" of time (36 hours from then) needed to get back to the island.

Hawking or Ben. Or if Hawking is talking to Widmore, then he might know about 316 too...I do think it's Ben, but that's about all I can come up with at this point.

I think that they are indeed Dharma #2, maybe the children of the purged dharmites. It would explain the food drops. They were keeping Kelvin alive hoping that one day they can return. Maybe non-living things can pass through the island's shield. So maybe the Swan is in the shadow of the statue. It's not exactly near the statue if you check a Lost map, but it's not that far either.
So Ben & Others, Widmore & associates, Hawking and the 'Shadows' wanted our Losties to get back to the island. Enemies with a common goal, it seems. The 'shadows' don't seem to be associated with Ben or Widmore, but they could be Hawking plants. Maybe Hawking is with Dharma #2 now, who knows?

I think they're a third group separate from Widmore or Ben. They're either affiliated with Mrs. Hawking or some unknown group. I doubt they're leftover Dharma, but it could be possible. I especially hope they're not some ancient Alperty group since then you have to wonder why they left the island and what they've been doing all this time.
