Alright, in Some Like it Hoth (which could be the best episode title yet), Miles is kidnapped by a group of people, and they tell him that he does not know what lies in the shadow of the statue. In Dead is Dead, Lapedis is asked by Sayid's kidnapper "what lies in the shadow of the statue?"

It seems like Widmore's freighter crew had a rival gang. Their intentions remain unknown, but the girl, and probably other Crash 2 survivors, got on that plane expecting to be sent to the Island. I can't conceive of who has sent her, but she's definitely there for a reason.

My guess is that the Shadow of the Statue gang has serious Island connections, perhaps with a previous member of Dharma. Any ideas?

Or they're Others/Hostiles. Remember, they could come and go off the island as needed before Locke blew up the sub.

Great title, mediocre episode. But regarding the question posed in the topic of this thread it is safe to say that there is another faction trying to get to the island. The question remains: are they allied to Widmore or Ben? Or is this yet another group searching for the island?

the Dude talking to Miles is the same guy standing next to Iliana when she knocks out Frank in Dead is Dead.  So this Guy gets to the island in 2008 and has some big crate full of supplies.  And, he claims to be on the side that' going to win!

So now we have

The Losties
The Others
The Hostiles
The Dharma Group
The 316er's
The "winning team"

He can't be on Widmore's side, he told Miles Widmore was bad. It wouldn't make sense for him to be on Ben's side either, because the woman tried to stop Ben. Maybe Dharma remains, because we are finding more and more people that survived the massacre.

Maybe they are just with Ben. I don't think they'll introduce another faction, specially one that would describe themselves as "the winning side", so late in the game. And Ben has called himself and his people "the good guys", and good guys always win.

My only guess is that they are some sort of DHARMA 'end game'.

Maybe they are Dharma trying to get back to the Island. They know that Widmore/Ben/Ellie know about the Island, and how to get back. Perhaps they had been watching Ben and followed him when they figured he was returning to the Island?

Or something like that.

Ya, I just re-watched that scene, Ben, Mystery Man and Ilana keep trading very interesting looks.  Kinda like, you guys know what you have to do, yes Boss kinda looks.  LOL!

But wouldn't it be strange for the US-based DI to just give up on the Island after the Purge?

But the 316's are in 2008?  The purge is in the 90's...
