Not for nothin' - but LSD is NOT 'truth serum'.
I'm curious as to what it was in that sugar cube. E.B. Farnum...er, Oldham... was cooking stuff out in his hermit squalor that probably went above and beyond LSD. If there ever was a guy in the 70's who could expand on the formulation beyond simple LSD9 or 25 into something that would be a fast-acting truth trip, that person would be a prime target for DHARMA recruitment as well someone that would be better off squirreled away on The Island rather than working for the CIA. Of course my topic title is facetious as it was not only probably NOT acid, but also it's virtually impossible to read while tripping. Not that I would know or anything. Did I miss something?? Did they make Sayid try to read something?? And for the record, it's not impossible to read while tripping, just really hard. I would know.

Granted, but I was responding to BobBX's pithy comment just above. Not that government experimentation on unwitting citizens is in any way legal or reasonable, just that the LSD use did not compound the issue at the time...
My "pithy comment" LOL, okay. I was just responding to the question asked by toadsage asking if anyone has seen pineapple express. I feel the need to ask this now though, what do you mean by "...LSD use di not compound the issue at the time"?? Meant no offense, BobBX... My comment regarding legal status of LSD at the time was about the illegal activities of the g-men - they broke plenty of laws, but none having to do with Dr. Hoffmann's discovery...

Missed that one. But come to think of it, it's true. The island does like golf though. There should be more golf.

On some other forum, someone posted something along the lines of "if you can understand the physics involved in golf, then you can understand the physics of time and space." Which, of course, instantly made me realize the significance of Hurley's golf course. In fact, I will put forth here and now that that is where Daniel Faraday is right at this very moment -- playing the back nine and muttering to himself.

The big issue I had with the Sayid acid thing was that he told everyone he wasn't a hostile and that he was from the future. Why, then, would Horace not at least investigate a bit further. I mean... they are conducting experiments in time and space and he is the freakin leader of the DI, you would think he would know what their ultimate goal was on the island. See, I don't think they're doing that quite yet. I think they're doing some "utopian society" thing, but they haven't gotten into the time-travel stuff yet. Or if they have, it's on a very strict "need-to-know" basis, and the hippy-dippy Dharma Initiative is just a cover for it. And of course the very best cover doesn't even know it's a cover at all! I'm also not totally convinced that the stuff on the sugar cube was LSD. I know that was the "typical" sugar cube thing, but I'm not sure why everyone's assuming that's what it was. Nor do I get why everyone assumes that Oldham was supposed to be a "torturer" just because Sawyer said "he's our you." Personally, I took that as it being that Oldham is the person the Dharmites turn to when they need to get information out of someone, just as the 815ers turned to Sayid when they needed to get info out of someone. "Information-obtainers" as opposed to "torturers." Different methods, same objective. But that's just my take on it.

Hippy dippy Dharma. LOVE IT!! That's Radzinsky's problem. He really truly is a nergy geek-o "I want to be the first to build this" dude. These guys are all peace-love and do your job. They have no idea in '77 what they are up against.

"Information-obtainers" as opposed to "torturers." Different methods, same objective. But that's just my take on it. I got the impression that the Orchid isn't up and running yet as well. It just seems to make sense to me that if the Swan isn't up yet, then the Orchid is probably way off in planning. So you're not alone on that. I have no reason or evidence to back that up, but it's just what I think is happening. Hell, the Orchid could have been the very first station. As for the chemical make up of what was on the sugar cube, I don't think that's really important as far as the show goes. But what ever it was most deffinitely was a hallucinogen, and back in the day, LSD was the popular liquid form. I think we're just all saying "Acid" instead of "That hallucinogen that we don't know what it was". As for why some people assume Oldham is a "torturer", well, I'm pretty sure it just goes back to the episode where we saw Sayid torture Sawyer on that tree. Once again, I'm with you thinking he's just the guy they go to when they need to extract information, but because we as the audience know Sayid was a torturer in his previous life, when Sawyer tells Sayid, "He's our you." Our mind instantly jumps to the torturer past. That's all. Until we see Oldham jamming bamboo under someone's fingernails, I'm with you.

Glad to have the company, Bob. ***scoots over to make a seat for Bob aboard my boat*** Sometimes, you just have to roll with the punches you know?? That's why I don't question things that have no real "value" towards the end of what the hell is going on. Sort of like asking why Horace doesn't just get a haircut, or what month he was born in. Trivial.
