I don't watch a lot of tv, so haven't watched a whole lot of sci fi...I'm really confused about the whole "killing people in the past who are alive in the future" concept!
You don't have to be. Young Ben's not dead. Trust me. Has anyone mentioned if young Ben lives, then how will that change the future when Ben meets Sayid? And why Sayid would work for him? But if Sayid ages the same as little Ben, Sayid would've been his hit man in his 70's or something? Am I making sense!??! I guess if little Ben lives, this is bad for the future is all I'm saying. And Vicki, I'm totally with you! It's like, how have they not disappeared going back to the past if they're not even born yet Poof in mid air!? Gah. From what we know of the time traveling rules of LOST, these events are what always happened. When Ben met Sayid in 2004 Ben always knew that Sayid shot him. Sayid, however, does not have knowledge of this event yet. Sayid would still work for Ben because he works for Ben before he shoots yound Ben. Ben, on the other hand, knows that Sayid is perfect for his hitman because he has knowlegde of Sayid's killer nature because he shot him when he was a kid. I know I know. I am kind of confusing myself here. There are some holes in logic here, but there are holes in logic for ANY time travel events. There has to be some leaps in logic in order to adapt a story for time travel.

understand what you are saying. How scary is that!? lol but I don't know if I think that is what happened. Sometimes I think,Who knows, they might keep going back in time until the outcome is right and maybe this one was wrong so they will do it again? similar to the butterfly effect. I know, I know, everyone says "you can't change what happened. Bla bla bla but since when have the writers ever told us the truth? and I wont believe that statement until I See or hear something that proves it. So far all we got is one charactors word and he wasn't even sure himself. So since when has that ever been enough for us? in a show that is tricky when it comes to facts.

I half expect to see and game-breaking alteration of history/alternate future and Daniel looks at the camera and, just like Locke said when the Swan exploded, cries, "I was wrong..."

We can't know anything for certain. This is LOST after all. This is just how I see it so far. We might find out more about this issue on tonight's episode. I'm excited.

Mrs. Hume I quite agree with you, I am excited it is LOST night but I no longer expect things to be "course corrected" to fit our most curious minds and to fullfill our most extensive immaginations.
I just hope that some of the things I believe that are going to happen do not, so then I can say, it wasn't predictible!
We shall all see in a few hours for our East Coast Lost fans
Until then peace out

I think we may be onto something here...

How about this? Because I really agree with Mango that Richard probably did use the island to resuscitate Ben. Ben was not dead at that point so he was really healed more than resurrected.
But nevertheless, I'm really beginning to think that the island's healing/life giving properties are like the electromagnetic properties - completely neutral and available to whomever taps into them. The difference with Locke is that he has staked everything on the island and the island has received him so completely he came back from the dead. Locke is closer to the island, if you will, more so than any one ever. Therefore Locke's life and quality of life is improved more substantially than any one ever before. He has out-Benned Ben.
