C.S. Laklost, huh? I just can't keep up with your names anymore. Sigh.

I agree with you, and I'm glad you thought it was a great episode. I'm not alone! Woot! Grin

Okay, now I have read everyone's posts.  Jug.  My dear.  Time travel is like swallowing a multi-sided pill.  The way you get the thing down your throat is like this: is the character acting like themselves or are they improving or digressing?  The discussion we can have is "Was it a good thing that Sayid killed Ben?"  The story will bear out what will happen with that - but was it believeable that Sayid would kill Ben?

If he shouldn't have, then consider what it will mean for his character.  Is he redeemable?  Or is he permenantly lost?  I would like to think that Locke's power over death is going to matter very much to Sayid.  I can picture Locke forgiving and absolving Sayid.

If it was good for Sayid to try to stop Ben's evil, then what will everyone do if Ben is alive?  How do we deal with the master of a genocide?

One of the over-arching questions on this story is Who is a good person- especially since Ben has called himself a good guy from the beginning.   I appreciated the judgment Sayid pronounced over Ben last night.  It was awful to see him kill the child.  But it was not awful to see his character do what he thought needed done.  It was like the pupil - Sayid - became the teacher - Ben.  Someone finally gave Ben a taste of his own medicine.  To me it verified the high level of evil Ben has achieved.  I think the lines in the Great War are drawn between Ben's followers and Locke's followers.  I'm expecting Sayid to be firmly in with Locke.

7.  I liked it; it wasn't mind-blowing.  It was a tad slow and there weren't huge reveals other than the final scene, but I bought Sayid's story, and enjoyed it.  Lakie explains it well, as always.

Sayid is, in my mind, now the 3rd of our survivors to get to the point of being suicidal (as he was content to stand execution for his life of choices) - Jack, Locke, and Sayid.  And I bought that.

I am giving this episode a 6
For the first time in five years I actually wondered why I was watching this show.  This episode lacked. Twice in a season I have been shocked and the mediocrity of the show.

The slow exposure of Dharma has once again confirmed that they are not there for the good of mankind, but some other dubious purpose.

Sayid being a prisoner and being “tortured” was ironic.  And of all people William Sanderson portraying the torturer, pluuueeez!  I was waiting for Darrel and Darrel to come out of the tee pee and help him!  Drop some LSD, the prisoner tells the truth and you all think you gave him too big of a hit.  And what was up with the dang Teepee!  (big eye roll here)

That entire scene and the fact that they had a torturer are just not adding up!  Something is very wrong in Dharmaville!

Oh thoughts toward this lead me to think that our gang is there for a reason and may just in fact influence the outcome to be different.

And the fact that Horace couldn’t make a decision without gathering a group of people who were as hostile as the crowd that wanted to kill Frankenstein!  Kill him kill him!  I cannot grasp how this behavior is warranted or justified.  They are the intruders not the hostiles and this is building a compelling case as to why they needed to be removed.   Oh and Radzinsky, what is his issue?  That guy is so worried about this precious SWAN station.  What is the deal?  (rhetorical I think I know what the deal is).  Why didn’t someone put him out of his misery years before and how in heavens name did he survive the purge?

And Amy what is she hiding she was as jumpy as was Sawyer not wanting to know his true identity.  Amy’s behavior leads me to believe she could be more trouble than we know and there was not just a picnic happening out there.
As for Jack, Kate and Hurley, well they are hanging back there just waiting for something to change.  I don’t see Jack’s patience lasting long and Hurley we all know he can’t keep a secret.  As for Kate why doesn’t she just admit she came back to be with Juliette and that is why she is really upset Sawyer is living with her.  (Gratuitous fantasy for all of you who are thinking this Wink )

Now for the meat of this show to speak, Sayid and Ben, and I am not referring to their male prowess, but the unique relationship they developed.   There was something very odd, eerie when Ben met up Sayid in Russia and told him he was done.  Especially since show ended with a young Ben Linus dead and Sayid running into the jungle.
This is not adding up and it made me wonder if in fact Ben Linus is really Ben Linus.  If he is then his behavior with Sayid makes sense, if not then he just uses one of his best talents, manipulation!  But he must be Ben, because of Widmore's comment to him when he showed up in London and makes sense why he called him boy.  The island won't let young Ben die, not yet (if you heard my voice there was an evil twist to that)

The other stuff about Sayid was filler, nice filler as Ilana was looking quite similar to her character Gaia in Rome, sitting at the bar seducing Sayid.  That man is a sucker for a pretty face, but this time it got him a plane trip back to the island.  BTW I do not buy her story.
I can’t comment on Sawyer.

Well, now for me to read what you all have contributed.  I read after I post Wink

We got Sawyer's story in LaFleur, now we have Sayid's story. I was saying...somewhere...that these characters all have to embrace their true natures; Sawyer learned how to con so he could be LaFleur and be the sheriff. Sayid understands that he's a killer. Lots of people disliked the fact that there wasn't a lot of character development, just action and mythology. But now TPTB have focusing on the heart of our favorite characters....and people aren't liking it.  Undecided Where did they go wrong? Huh

And Sayid was so handsome. Smiley Just had to put that out there, too.  Wink
amen sister!  he was HOT last night!
Yah. And we got to see different hair styles....clean, dirty, brushed, down, pulled back....ah!

Wait wait no no... Sawyer didn't learn to be a con to become a Sheriff.  He was a con because of what happened when he was younger.  He has developed but the irony here is that he is pulling off the biggest con job of his life to save their lives.

Also Sawyer does not have this all figured out, it almost went to hell in a handbasket with Sayid.  Sayid did not cooperate.

If you love Sayid then this was a show for  you, but I am sick of seeing Sayid and his killing.

Juggy - regarding Sayid and Ben, I understand your dilema it was an odd situation, one that left you banging your hand on your head saying WTH?  I mean were you in bed with me watching this, as your frustration with the episode echos many of my feelings.

Stalling was a good word, just calling it in. Nothing going there.

I agree with Joy, Kate sucks this season but I still say there is there for Juliette and doesn't know how to tell Sawyer or Jack.  Hurley will figure it out, unless he gets to involved in dipping sauces!!

Wait that is how they got invented.

I can feel the challenges building up but not with the fervor I expect from this writing team.  i think they are lost!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Whatever Happened, Happened" is next... Ben will obvious live...  In season 2 when Ben met Sayid in the Swan station, he knew that he would go back in time some day and shot him as a boy...  It's always happened that way... whatever happened, happened... I'm sure Jack will perform surgery on him a second time... Wait, that's the first time for Ben!  Now that's pretty cool.  If Jack does surgery on Ben it will be Jack's 2nd, but Ben's 1st.  And Jack's 1st surgery, will be Ben's 2nd...

Pass the Tylenol, because so do I.  Ben's death is not about Ben's death.  It is about one of three things

1) Ben is also resurrected.  This puts him and Locke on the same playing field.  I am expecting this.  I don't want it.  I want Locke to be more powerful.  But Ben will continue his one-up-man ship to the end.  He better be a worthy opponent to the bitter end of the story.

2) The island's motivations.  If the island wants Ben alive, and Jacob needs help from Locke and not Ben then are Jacob and the island in agreement or not?  If the island is against Ben, then why?  If the island is neutral and is simply a life-giving force, then it better explain all the deaths that have happened - specifically Eko and Danielle's teams.

3) The impact on the future.  Time to find out whether or not if "whatever happened, happened."  Ooh, that's the next episode.  How conveeeeeenient!
