I gave it a 7. Not very good except for the last couple of segments, and even those didn't really make up for it. Plus Sawyer voted to kill Sayid. Awful.

I am going to hold off an official vote but i was very disappointed.
I did not get a clear understanding of why Sayid is so anti Ben after working for him.
I did not like Sawyer and his reactions tonight. He is such a dharma guy that he votes to kill Sayid. Come on he is way to independent for that.
Even the he's our you was disappointing. he wasn't anything like Sayid. He gave him LSD to get him to talk. That is not torture. People pay to go on that trip.
I did not like the shooting of Ben unless he lives under normal circumstances. (not being made into a christian like being)
I really do not understand where my favorite show is heading and for the first time I am afraid to find out.

I decided to add some more.
For 5 years we have watched Jack and company stumble around and screw everything. When are we going to see some idea of "destiny" or why they are back. Is the whole story just going to be these people screwing every thing up and not accomplishing anything. They twice mysteriously end up on crap hole island. Shouldn't be finding out why pretty damn soon.
not happy with this episode if you can not tell. I hope future episodes start telling us where this story is going.
Shooting a 12 year old boy. ridiculus.

And all we get is just 20 seconds of Hurley an episode. Kate looking in the distance. Jack doing nothing. Where is Desmond. We have not seen Locke forever. I don't care about llana or Ceaseer. I need my main characters back together!!! I want some hurley time!!
This episode bothered me if you can not tell.

I'm sorry you disliked this epi so much Juggy. You make great points. The only thing I can even play devil's advocate for is the one I quoted. I think Sawyer only voted along with everyone because he's doing what he always does: surviving. He's playing the longest con ever, that he's Jim LaFleur, head of Dharma Security for the last 3 years. He HAS to vote that way, until he can figure out his next move. He did try to convince Sayid to "escape", which fits in well with that, I believe. Other than that, you are spot on with every point.

I have to agree with Juggy and Cayley. I am going to hold off voting until I can re-watch it tomorrow, because I missed a lot tonight because stuff was going on in the house, but overall I thought it was very disappointing. (Except the last scene -- what a great OMG moment!) I didn't like it because it made me not like our Losties very much. I don't like Sayid being all dark. Punching out Jin? Shooting a little boy, even if it was Ben? Plus, I agree that Sawyer voting to execute Sayid is too out-of-character. Yes, I know he said tonight he's built a new life and is just trying to get along -- happy for probably the first time in his life. But come on! It didn't feel right to me. And how much time has gone by now... three days? And nobody has had the discussion about "Why did you come back anyway? Was it on purpose?" "Oh, it's because Ben told us you were in dire danger." Sheesh! It's like lostfromthestart says, is nobody going to talk here? Of course tonight Sawyer asked Kate, and what does she say? "I don't know why everyone else came back; I only know why I did." Soooo? Grrrr...

I agree with the complaints about Sawyer. How does he think he is he superior to Jack? I am starting to hate Sawyer more than I ever hated crying Jack. Yes shooting a little kid is pretty disgusting, but I think we are going to have a replay of season 3 and Jack having to save Ben. Jack is the only surgeon on the island, and I think Jack has more reasons to hate Ben than Sayid.
I think this season shows that Lost is only good when Damon and Carlton write an episode. Yes, give us more Hurley. More Locke, more Sun smacking Ben in the back of the head. Heck even more Jack. I'm tired of meek Jack. One day Jack will wake up and start to screw up things like the good old days.
I am sure that they are just laying in the ground work for a great ending. Once we see Locke confront Ben, we'll be cooking with gas again.
I gave it a 6 for the obvious Sayid shooting Ben, and Sawyer's selling out. Also reducing Hurley to a few lines about waffles and Sawyer and Juliet.

I gave it a 9. I felt like every scene echoed scenes that we've seen before, from Sayid killing the chicken (Eko killing the old man), to Horace asking Sayid if he were a spy (like Henry Gale was an Other sent to spy), to Sayid's hesitation/thoughtfulness before shooting Ben (reminded me of Michael shooting Ana Lucia). There were a lot more, which I knew at the time but slips my mind now. Sawyer thinks he's got it all figured out. And I think he does. Now if everybody else would just play his game, they could settle down real nice and wait for Locke to come back...because that's what Sawyer at least is waiting for, right? The return of Locke? If he voted against killing Sayid, they would know something was wrong (Suspicious Phil would've been all over that!). I think he did it not just to save himself, but to save the other Losties stuck in 1977 as well. I also loved getting into Sayid's past. Ilana works for Ben, for sure, although she may not know it. Because who knows what Sayid's weakness is? Ben Linus does! It's women! Nadia, Shannon, Elsa (?)...hmmmm, looks like a pattern. Ben even said so himself in "The Economist." Jack/Kate/Hurley was slow to me, so I'm glad they were only there for a few minutes. Looks like Hurley's happy in his new job, though, so that makes me happy. Jack is just all "whatev!" And Kate seems to be taking things one step at a time. Lack of communication still bugs me though. I had a bunch of genuine OMG moments, but I also stay away from spoilers, so maybe that's it? The interaction between Ben and Roger was frightening, that little kid is such a good actor, I was totally crying. He just needs a hug, dang it! And Sayid was so handsome. Just had to put that out there, too.

I'm not ready to vote yet, but my initial reaction is I just love Lost! I agree with Mrs. A on most things. I know I am not popular when I say that I love seeing so much of Sawyer. He is one of the major three characters and we didn't see him hardly enough last season. He is fantastic in his new role and I think he knows exactly what he is doing. Kate is pathetic. She needs something to happen to redeem her in my eyes. I had sex with Jack last night but I came back to the island for you Sawyer At least when she had Aaron you felt like she was doing something good, but she was probably just using him like she does everyone else. I completely understand Sayid's hate for Ben and why he felt he had to kill him. He didn't hear Faraday's speech about not being able to change anything so he figures he is doing the world a favor. That is how Ben knew that he was a "killer". He used Sayid's own words. I think I remember when Ben got the tumor that he said something like he never got sick and the island was mad at him or turned against him or something. So the island will probably heal him? Anywhoo, going to watch it again and then collect my thoughts.

I don't think there is to much sawyer, he is a great character and a main piece to the big picture. But this season has been building to the return of the Oceanic 5 and for two weeks we get nothing from 4 of the 5 returnees. And the previews shows them getting yelled at for coming back (I think by Juliet). These people came back 30 years earlier in time and they are going to act like it was just a choice??? Come on. And interrupting Kate as she is going to give us one reason is a trick they have used once to often.
I am going to rewatch the ep and listen to you guys. I just hope my fears are wrong.

Wasn't really such a good episode - I did like most of Sayid's flashbacks, or flashforwards if you consider he's in 1977 and all this happend in 2007 but in Sayid's own past - ok I'll stop now I'm giving myself a headache. Anyhow, the on-island happenins were pretty boring - nothing much happened really. Sayid shooting Ben - either Ben doesn't die of the wound, or its as Faraday says that the past cannot be changed so Ben is still alive in the future. In any case, didn't find the whole thing that compelling, to be honest. One of the weaker episodes this season and, IMHO, the whole 1977 story arc hasn't been that compelling.

They are just so slow in telling the story of the O 5 back in 1977. Lets see and get some information surronding them. Hurley making waffles is the best ya got. Come on!!!

I gave this Episode a 10. Probably more for the scene with Oldham more than anything else. If the show can give me goosebumps, and has me hitting "pause" just to assimilate all the info between one scene to the next, then I would say it was a GREAT EPISODE! I was actually dreading another Sayid-centric episode, but forget that noise.... it really put the Sayid/Ben plot-line into overdrive. I have given up trying to spot red-herrings, and will just stick to my Pearl Station modus operandi, and observe! Sorry if any of the remote pneumatic tubes outlets are depositing my reports in a pile on your picnic area...
