Right, I'm choosing to believe everything was talked about and explained while they were in the van on the way, otherwise it just bugs me too much. But they should have said something like:
Jack: we're in 1977? what the heck is going on here?
Sawyer: It's a long story. We have a lot of catching up to do, we'll tell you on the way. Get in.
This could have covered everything.
Bingo. Very brief and really fills in the blanks for the audience, as well as helping to explain why Jack, Kate and Hurley all seem to be handling the idea of traveling back to 1977 with amazing ease lol.

That's all I'm asking for, at minimum.
Thank you.

I agree we needed more reference made to them catching up. The biggest thing which went unasked though was - didn't Jin think to ask if Sun had had the baby ok?! He asked about Sun and (understandably) ran off to find out about the plane, but we should have had a scene of him finding out if the baby was ok and was it a boy or a girl!! Maybe we'll see this next week? I can't wait to see his face when he finds out he has a 3 year old daughter!

This topic is hilarious. Thanks LFTS! I just read a line from C.S. Lewis that most of the trouble in a finely written novel could be solved with a good walk and a pint of beer . The point is all the unanswerables that we all run into in our lives all the time.

I hated this episode. Reasons include the big expectations after two weeks of drought and an excellent episode (LaFleur), the lack of focus on certain events, the illogical decisions of characters (like Sawyer instead of saying to Horace - "Hey, guess what! I found my old boat-mates! They have been living in a jungle for three years, what about that?", which would have worked with a little change of clothes and mud make-up). But most of all, the non-talking annoyed the hell out of me.
Sure, they have a short chit-chat on the way to Dharmaville, but instead of spilling the beans they all act secretive. We need a cue telling us that they talked about all the bloody things that happened. And when Jack goes to Sawyer, they could have used WhatThe's strategy.
Sawyer: Well, this is what happened (fade out, fade in) Jack: You mean you were statue-spotting, time watching, other-killing, ageless Richard convincing, Juliet romancing, Dharma co-leading all this time? What did you learn about Dharma? Sawyer: Long story. We'll gather all up tommorow and me, the missus (wink to Juliet), Mao and Mr. Sixth Sense will tell you all about it. How about you tell me what's it like in 2005? Who won the SuperBowl (or whatever)? (fade out, fade in) Sawyer: You married her and then tried to kill yourself? Whoa! Trusting bug-eyes is a no-no. He's here, you know. Been thinkin' of whackin' him, but how can you kill a kid? Jack: OK, enough chit-chat. What's the plan?
I know my writing sucks, but you get the point. That would have took about 2 minutes. But nooo. Let's all be precious little secret keepers.

ROFL Love the "Trusting bug-eyes is a no-no. He's here, you know. Been thinkin' of whackin' him, but how can you kill a kid?" I can really see Sawyer saying that! Laklost is right this topic is hilarious! I like the C S Lewis quote! I loved this episode, but it was let down by the non-talking. For me though it wasn't nearly as much of a let down as TL&DOJB which I had such high hopes for and I felt left out so much of Locke's time as JB. It's the first Locke episode I haven't LOVED, maybe because he wasn't Locke?! Hopefully we might find out more in a future episode, like when did Locke, I mean Bentham tell Jack about the dangers to everyone on the island and how did Walt know Locke was calling himself Jeremy Bentham as he didn't tell him the alias during the meeting we saw (maybe Walt dreamt it?! )? I can understand them not talking to each other in previous seasons, to keep the supsense up, but now I just worry that all the questions aren't going to get answered by the end!

Or answered in a totally unsatisfactory manner. Hey... I have an idea. Why not have the characters talk now, and maybe just a few questions would get answered. We promise we'll keep tuning in.

I would be okay with a talky-talky episode, but wouldn't people complain that "nothing happened?" Love the CS Lewis quote!

For the first time today I read a transcript -- and I've just got to say, there is not a whole ton of dialogue in the whole episode at all!

You guys are cracking me up with this topic! Good job....and I completely agree how annoying it is that these characters don't have 'normal' conversations that people would have in these unbelievable situations. The one thing that's been bothering me the most, is that we didn't get to see the Ben-Locke meeting, when Locke sees Ben all beat up in the bed and says 'that's the man who killed me'. WTH Next we see Ben with Sun and Lapidus with no mention of Locke or what happened between him and Ben. I really hope the writers aren't 'losing it' - I've had such high hopes for the story, and now I'm feeling kinda 'left out'!

The reason whyt we haven't seen that yet is because we haven't caught up to that point in their story yet. Sun hit Ben over the head with the oar and thats the reason for him lying in the bed (im assuming). So as far as last episode goes, it was before Locke showed up on the beach.

I thought the reason Ben was in the bed is because he was one of the injured on the plane. Cesar took Locke to the 'infirmary' to show him who was hurt from the plane 'crash', and Ben was among them. My impression was that Sun hit him with the oar sometime after that. Ummm...I think..... I can never be sure of anything on this show!

See, the reason why I think he's injured in the bed from Sun's bludgoning is because Ceasar shows Locke the infirmary and at the time Ceasar seems to be in charge of the 316ers. When they first crashed Lapeidus was in charge and was telling everyone what they should do. Ceasar later tells Locke (who just recently showed up inexplicably on the beach) that the pilot and some woman took off in a boat and took the flight manifest with them. This is all happening after Sun and Lapeidus go accross to the other island. It is confusing because we were shown the events after the crash of 316 out of order. We were first shown the point where Locke shows up, Ceasar is in charge, Sun and Lapeidus are gone. But later it was revealed that directly after the crash Ben was not injured. He was going to take Sun accross to the main island, but it ended up being Lapeidus instead. Then Locke shows up.

Wow - thanks for that explanation! Really good call, there. I spoke to a co-worker who thought the same as I did. We looked at Lostpedia, and they confirm that you are correct.
So, not only is time travel messing with my brain, but the order in which the writers choose to show information is making my brain explode.
Thanks a lot, Darlton! (sarcastically)
And thanks to you, Grizn0 (sincerely) for setting me straight on this!
