Onboard flight 316 as the turbulence begins, we can clearly see it is dark outside, especially in the cockpit shots.  Then there is the "flash", when presumably Jack, Kate, Hurley and Sayid disappear, and it is suddenly daylight outside the cockpit.  Now Frank can see the Island and, eventually, the runway.

Does crossing the barrier onto the Island always involve some change in time?  After Faraday first landed on the Island and did his experiments, he documented a shift in time of several hours.  Is this what we've seen in the sudden change to daylight?

I would say because of the time difference

Remember there was a (i think) 13 minute time difference....Remember Faraday's time experiment?

So I think that was what we saw.......The time difference

It is interesting you say this, because one of the questions I remember about the pilot (1st episode, not the guy flying the plane) was that based on when the flight took off and how long they flew it should have been the middle of the night when they crashed. And if you remember it was the middle of the day when they crashed.

I think it is just another sign that TPTB have always had a plan.  I never subscribed to the theory that they were just faking it and wandering wherever their imaginations took them.

Good memory, tonysee.

That looked like more than a 13-minute time difference to me.  It looked like it went from dead of night to noon.  No dawn or dusk or whatever.

When Frank took Desmond and Sayid back to the freighter in season 4, Sayid remarks that they left the island at one time of day but arrived at the freighter a few minutes later...at a totally different time of day.

Maybe when Locke stopped the skipping record the island, the island is no longer 13 minutes off but it's off by a few hours. But still close enough to be "current time."

Because there are no runway indicator lights. Afterall the island wouldn't let the plane's "Locke On Board" sign be ignored. The island needed, as some say, it's savior in one piece. Or it could be the whole time- space / bearing issue.

Anyone else notice what hapened after the first few shudders of the plane?

Lapidus looks down at his instruments and says something like crap or whatever,  as if he had just realized something.

I think he remembered the heading that Daniel had given him on the frieghter, "305" or whatever and he had to turn the plane at the last minute, but..   is it possible he did not make it to the correct bearing and was slightly off, and that is why some went to 77 and some to 2008?

I think he said "crap" or whatever because the plane was crashing and there was nothing he could do about it. That's slightly more of an "oh crap" moment.

But he did turn the plane right after he said that,

Possibly because of the huge mountain that they were about to crash into.
